Munawar Laminations

Executive Summary:
As an internee, I joined Munawar Lamination works. The main aim of writing this report
is to complete the requirements of HEC (higher education commission of Pakistan) to get
the degree of ADP (Accounting & finance ). It is necessary to do this internship to get the
degree. Also the main purpose of doing an internship is that the courses which are taught
in our institutions needs to be applied practically. Knowledge of books is not enough
unless one apply the learned things in professional life. During this time period I have
learned so many things which are new to me in a challenging environment. Also I have
learned that professional life is not as easy as this life. I have experienced a lot of things
during this interval of time. The main thing I have truly learned besides education is
building confidence. Confidence is so necessary in professional life. Without it you really
cannot survive in such a challenging environment. I have seen this thing in the employee
of Munawar Lamination works. That is why I chose this industry for internship. Also it
will help me in future and I would try to apply these traits in me too. I am so much
interested in learning new concepts and doing new things. And this industry is an
example of such things. I would try to utilize these concepts in my own business rather
than doing job in any company. Also the main importance of doing internship is getting
degree of Commerce recognized by HEC. Also I have seen that the future of this
company is very bright in Gujrat. The employee working in this company is very skilfull
which is required for this specific industry.
In this report given below, I have learned so much new things, which I would surely
apply in my further studies as well as in my future life. All the things, experiences I have
learned in this particular organization are briefly given in this report. The history of this
organization, culture, their routines, my experiences, my work, everything is described
below. The main product offer is also given in this report. The main role of this
organization in national growth and the countrys economy is also given below. The main
description of the branches of Munawar lamination works is described. My weekly
internship schedule and the description of several departments and their activities are also

described. The detailed references of sources from where the important data is taken are
also described. It is an emerging company, which would surely motivate me to higher
level.

1.0 Introduction with Business sector and Lamination:

The Munawar Laminations is located under the group of service shoes, leather exporters
and garments industry in Gujrat. There is a very high competition of overhead companies
at national level and as Ill as at international level to take the customers and fulfill the
customer demands. To provide a stable base and to uphold fairness in the industry,
numerous job bodies and organization are playing their role in the field. In all over the
world, the growth of industrial groups helped to support the industries by providing them
a healthy and economic environment which results in the improvement and economic
growth of not only the specific industry but also of the national economy. A business
group is a physical attention of organized businesses, suppliers, and associated
institutions in a specific field. Groups are considered to increase the efficiency with
which companies can strive, nationally and globally. Internationally, governments often
try to use the group effect to encourage a particular place as good for a positive type of
business or industry. For example, the city of Bangalore, India has been used to use the
group effect in order to satisfy a number of high-tech companies to system shop there.

1.1 Definition of Lamination:

The following are some definitions which will help to understand the definition of
Lamination.

There are different forms of lamination, it depends on that what are your inputs and what
is your desired output.
Some of the forms are given below:

1.3 History of Lamination in Gujrat:

Three forms of lamination exists in Gujrat paper lamination of shah industries from (1999

Munawar Lamination centered in this business in 2004.

1.4 Trade Bodies:

Different trade bodies, relations and unions are trying for the growth of lamination
industry and leather exports of the division. These relations are observed not only by

assistance in conclusion making and policy making, they are contributing towards the
development and growth of the national economy as Ill. Some of those trade bodies are

Vocational Training Institute Gujrat (VTIG)

Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA)

Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC)

1.5 National Scenario of the Sector:

In Pakistan, there is no such industry of lamination it is considered to be an intermediary
function to different industries. Such as, paper lamination is supporting to printing
industries, chip board lamination provide aid to furniture industry and textile lamination
is an important intermediary business for shoe industry, garments industry and other
related textile industries. If a leather jacket manufacturer need to produce a leather jacket
containing wool inside then it has to go through lamination process. In same way
lamination had become an essential part of many industries. There is no such significant
recognition of this field but yet it has its own importance in manufacturing process of
many goods.

2.7 Industry Analysis or PEST Analysis:

The industry analysis of the lamination manufacturing concern is divided as under into 4
categories and often referred as PEST Analysis. I.e. Political, Economical, Social ant
Technological and each is summarized as follow:

Political:
The lamination industry of Pakistan is continuously growing day by day. Pakistan is
recognized as the hub for the production of textile lamination; about 200 Lamination
companies are operating in the country to produce high quality and standardized
lamination of textile. As far as political impact upon the industry is concerned, trade body
of Pakistan Footwear Manufacturing Association (PFMA) is currently working for the
collaboration of the industry with the political and legal system. The collaboration of the

Arslaan Qadir

14102454-017

Munawar Laminations

lamination industry of Pakistan is nearly about 2 % and nearly about 20,000 people are
striving in only Pakistan directly. Government of Pakistan is trying to preserve this
industry to increase its exports. Upon the political basis, the government is trying to
preserve this industry by launching different programs and initiatives for the industry
through different trade bodies. The current political stability of the country is badly
affecting the every manufacturing industry of the country. Energy crisis and power loss is
the main hot issue for the industry and increasing the operating expenses by installation
of generators. Exporters of raw textile products should be allowed to export the duty free
samples to meet the commitments of their export. From last few years, government is
encouraging the trade policies at a higher level to facilitate the industry for trade of
benefits.

Economic:
During past few years, the economic conditions and inflation pressures have caused a
vital impact upon this perfectly competitive industry. The increased prices of raw material
and higher energy prices have increased the manufacturing and operating expense of this
industry resulting higher rates of finished goods. Due to this factor, many importers have
switched their intentions towards importing textile laminated product from China. The
industry is contributing a lot toward the economy by arranging job posts for the qualified
persons and by arranging work for the labor force. Apart from the employees and labor of
the company, the bigger firms also help small sub contactors to grow by giving sub
contracts to them.

Social:
The demand of lamination and laminated products in increasing on domestic level due to
increase in population and the industry is striving to fulfill this market demand. But this
attempt to serve the market and earn a profit has negative aspects upon the society. Some
of the firms of the industry are deviating from the child labor laws and law of minimum
wage in order to decrease their expenses and increase the profits. Most of the lamination

companies concerns do not bother about waste management and hence throw their
garbage, solid waste, chemicals and contaminated water in drains and rivers which have a
very hazardous effect upon marine life and human life. This waste includes copper, zinc,
cadmium and lead. Some NGOs and concerned citizens are working to develop
awareness regarding this. It would be appropriate for these firms to have the waste
management systems and treatment plants in order to preserve them from the threat of
environmental and social rivalry.

Technical:
New technologies are emerging in the sector and capital is required to buy these
technologies in order to get the competitive advantage in the perfectly competitive
market. To run such technologies, training of employees to operate these machines is also
mandatory resulting in an increase in their skill set. The process of Lamination includes
multi steps in which different chemicals are mixed to get the desired chemical and then it
is pasted on the fabric. For the cutting and sewing purposes, new machines are
developing. Many companies are trying to maintain and manage their operations by
integrating them with IT and the modern technologies such as internet, account keeping
and data base software.

3.0 Organizational Structure:

The enterprise is working upon totally Decentralized approach of management. Different
operational and production functions are performed by different departments of the
enterprise but the decision making authority regarding these operations rests upon the
management of the concerned Department to ensure the chain of command, clear
reporting structure and span of control at the enterprise

_ Sundry Operations: Sundry department is further sub divided into sub section on the

Lining Work: Lining refers to internal stitching of a shoe by stitching it with a fabric

3.5 Comments on the Organizational Structure:

As the enterprise is manufacturing in nature, the intense focus of the management of the
organization is upon establishing the production department as the core department of the
enterprise. Along with this, further other departments are developed to perform the
supportive activities that are mandatory to the firm. As the organization is in its growing
phase, there are no separate departments for some other major supportive activities of the
business. For instance, the Human Resource department and marketing department are
not placed separately in the organization. The C.E.O of the firm, Mr. Munawar Hussain,
with his twenty years of experience in the industry, supervises these functions such as
marketing and administration along with his office staff which consists of his two
assistants, one clerk and an office boy. The marketing functions and important decisions
regarding those functions, such as product planning, advertising, packaging and
forwarding, are governed by C.E.O himself. Apart from this, all the decisions are
finalized and made by Mr. Munawar Hussain by the suggestions of the departmental
heads. For the discussion and decision making, a conference hall is placed next to the

office of C.E.O. Mr. Munawar Hussain also make regular calls with the customers the
relevant issues of human force are also settled by C.E.O. The decisions of new hiring are
made by him upon departmental requisitions. He also decide how and when to make
payments to labor on per piece rate with relevance to the market rates. The suggestions to
provide facilities to employees and labor force by different departmental heads is also
listened by him and necessary decisions are made. At Munawar Textile Industries, the
permanent employees are paid monthly while the wages of stitching department labor
force is paid after every week depending upon work performed by them. Although, the
manufacturing enterprise is quite a new one and striving very hard with excellence
towards growth, still there is a need to place separate department for other support
activities. In this way, chain of command and flow of work will become smooth and
easier, responsibilities will be clear, proper attention to each activity will be provided by
that particular department and it would be easier to avoid work overload.

This was my last day of internee tenure in Munawar Laminations. I visited the entire

give me a lot of skills of working in real life of the firms as this was my first experience. I
also sorry them i have done so mistake. They give me good bye greets and a lot of
prayers for my success. I also meet with the owner of the Munawar Laminations Mr.
Munawar Hussain Butt he is a person f great personality and also have too much
experience he also share some of tricks of business with me.

5.0 Learning Summary:

Everything which I have learned from my internship will be explained here. The duration
of my internship is of six weeks and in this time period I watch and do different work of
real, business environment. During my internee tenure, managing and watching the
business environment was new thing for me because I have no working experience before
and also in university life I do not get course related to it. This program helped me to
increase my interpersonal, communication, decision making and entrepreneurial skill. But
the thing which i could not learn in this duration is customer interaction and how to
handle them how to satisfy them as this firm is a manufacturing firm so there is no
customer interaction with the employees. Internship course develop student, and make
him a working person while other courses could not do this. Our books do not have real
life example in it and do not show us the real time working environment of Pakistan it
was my good luck to work in manufacturing firm of Pakistan. While working during my
internship duration i feel the need of HR department in every organization because
through this we can learn human behavior and these behaviors can b change through
reward and compensation system. I also encourage the directors of the firm to develop
HR department in their organization. While working in this firm i learn how the real
implementation of our course Training and development because i conduct a training
program during my internee duration. This organization helped me to develop my CV

Arslaan Qadir

14102454-017

Munawar Laminations

because this is on growing stage and it has more opportunities for learning as compare to
the developed firm. This course gives students opportunities to increase and show their
knowledge, skills and abilities. Through this i have learned how to behave with senior
employers and also to with peer group members. Also how to control subordinates. I have
learned how to control my emotions and anger during my work. Internship helps the
person who is doing it recruited as a employee in the same organization if he works good.
I choose this firm for my internship because i want to know how a firm is working in
local market and hold the potential of strong business. I do effort in trying to explain local
business in my documentation of internship report. And i write all my findings and
conclusion in it. Through this course i develop few KSAOs which are not present first.
As the main purpose of the internship is to observe the things but it is a simulation of real
job environment because I have seen workers working way more tough then me because
they were doing their real jobs. Through this internships i believe that a person will get
more knowledge and experience in growing organization as compare to developed
organization. This experience will become key element for the practical knowledge of the
working environment of our country where in future we have to work. I being a student
through this program polish my different kind of skills, abilities and different kind of
competencies. I have learn how to obey the orders of my seniors and know that they are
my seniors and they have more knowledge and experience than me. I also do need
analysis on different step in my internship tenure first of all a technician of machinery
and electrical appliances have a permanent position in the firm because there is so much
need of them and also there is need of human resource department not a complete
department but it must be start in organization so the HR functions must be handles by
that HR specialist. I had put all my efforts to explain all the things which I have learnt
from my internship and write them in this portion.

6.0 Recommendations and Conclusion:

During my internship period and the time which I spend in the firm and different
departments and their processes are explained in previous portion. Now a days economic
condition of Pakistan is very poor and firm is working in it and making profit and

Arslaan Qadir

14102454-017

Munawar Laminations

growing. Company is holding majority market share of the market. But it is fail to
compete with the competitor out of the city so they should look towards them and see out
of the box. 0rganization is growing firm and it have long way to achieve maturity stage
and it can do this because it has quality standards. 0rganization have started some new
departments such as printing and polishing departments i think i was too early for them to
start them because they must first focus on main departments and grow them. This firm
have main focus on there big customer that is SERVIS and they neglect other small
customers which are may be more profitable for them so I recommend them to start
business with other customer as well. Although firm train there worker when there is
need of it but it gives temporary benefit to them because there is no as trainer in the firm
and at the end after the wastage of time and money worker is still on zero. I
recommended this firm to start a small department of training and hire a professional
trainer who will train there worker in different session according to new technology. As i
also conduct a short training in the firm during my internee time and it benefit is greater
than the cost after cost benefit analysis. This will increase the loyalty of the worker with
the organization is such a way that firm is pay attention toward them. Firms have some
temporary employees company should start some rewards system to convert them into
permanent employees. As the economic condition of the firms is very worse so firm
should wait for the right time to enter in the national markets. Time is money and firm
should not waste their time because if they waste their time they indirectly wasting their
money.
There are more than 7 departments in the firm and each department is depended on other
if one is not performing well other working becomes down. So they should manage them
properly and from start to end quality should be ensured. Stitching department have some
ladies workforce so there must be no discrimination on gender bases and avoid unwanted
events. Firm is totally based on there supplier and a major part of profit is goes to them so
firm should think about backward integration and start to make their raw material them
self and increase their profit margins. And they can also sell this material to other firms
and this will become there another business and give profit to them.

7.0 SWOT Analysis of Firm:

As we know that SWOT analysis includes strength, weakness, threats and opportunity.
Strength and weakness are depend on internal environment of the company and threats
and opportunities are depend on external environment and it is not in control of the
organization whereas strength and weakness is under the control of the firm. SWOT for
this firm in which i have done my internship is as following:

7.1Strengths:
This firm has differentiation strategy and produce difference product from their
competitors with a good quality. The main competitive edge of this firm is there low price
in market and the policy behind this is production in bulk and producing more than one
product. Firm also have keen focus on their employees and work as mentors to improve
their skills and abilities. This firm knows how to retain their workers so they provide
good salaries to their workers against the competitive market. Munawar Laminations
have also strength that it has its own building and all machinery and there is no partner of
them. It is also located at a good place near to the main highway which benefit it for
transportation. This firm also hires some marketing agents which work for them on
temporary basis and search new customers for them. As the firm has links with
international suppliers for example china they can develop new product with low price
against other firms doing same business. Organization also have good image in market
and loyal customer because of the good repute of the owner. They are also working for
register as a ISO certified organization and this will also become their strength soon.

7.2 Weakness:
The main weakness of this firm according to me is that they are only working in a single
market and bound them to stay in one market only although they have a big customer in
it. As different kind of chemicals are used in production and they are dangerous to the
health this is also a weakness. They are also producing different product related to one
main product which is shoes whereas leather garments and other textile related product
can be produced by them. They have more worker are temporary then permanent worker
some time most of temporary workers absent at same day so production stops due to this.

Arslaan Qadir

14102454-017

Munawar Laminations

7.3 Opportunity:
Opportunities are related to external environment and opportunities related to external
environment of this firm are:
The market of leather related product is growing very good and different new companies
started this business so this is an opportunity for this firm. New markets can be still
explored by this company in this zone and outside the zone as well. Now there are
training institute in Gujarat where firm can send their workers for training. Economic
condition of the country is going to stable due to new government this will also be a
opportunity for the firm. Demand of the leather product is increasing the market and it is
also an opportunity for this firm to start making leather products.

7.4 Threat:
Due to external environment different kind of threats related to this firm can be described
as follows:
Energy crisis of the country is main threat for this firm. Faisalabad market of textile is
closed and disrupted nationally and internationally due to the energy crises of the gas.
This firm is facing crises of the both electricity and gas crises. This firm has some
wastage and they can make profit due to it but there is no much buyer of this waste. The
infrastructure of the city is not so good for example roads of the city is of poor quality
and traffic problem is also present this is also a threat for the firm because delivery of the
material cannot be done on time. Now there are many competitors how are trying to
chase the same big customer of the firm that is SERVIS this can be a big threat for the
firm in coming future.
