Chapter 1
Introduction
There is only one religion, though there are a hundred versions of it.
~George Bernard Shaw

Most of you already know, a Book of Shadows is a compilation of materials used for ones religious practices, in
particular Magic. But, what you may not be familiar with is the science behind the magic. Generally, the
traditional Books of Shadows were produced by a Witch or Pagan to collect successful spells, healing
practices, divination techniques, personal notes, and any other relevant information which would assist them in
their religion, health, relationships, work, and daily life. Scientist are now confirming the validity of many of
these healing techniques used by Pagans for thousands of years. I have included many such spells in the pages of
this book, with the hopes of continuing their preservation in our modern culture, and for future generations to study
and enjoy.
You will find this is a very easy to use book, even if you are fairly new to the subject. Most of the tools are
easily acquired, and the spells are basic, but tried and true. You will be using this book much like you would a
cookbook. Prop it on something and gather up the ingredients you will need for your work, and have fun brewing.
Within this book, you will find comprehensive coverage of a wide variety of occult subjects to assist anyone in
their magical practices and healing. These are my shadows. Some of the spells in this book are controversial, and
for good reason. While I would estimate that 95% of this book is filled with ways to help, heal, and bring light
into peoples lives, there are a few concepts in this book which have the capacity to seriously change the fate of
ones life in a negative fashion. Causing someone to fall seriously ill, is a very grim notion. One might believe
that only a person of an evil nature would be so inclined to use such magic. I do not think so. Why? The answer is
simple. Some people need cursing. For example, if a rapist attacks my daughter, you can bet the bank Im going to
be doing some serious cursing. Magic can work like a gun, use it for protection, and let your morals guide you.
I believe that your individual personality will depict how you use the knowledge in this book. Whether you are
a Good (White) Witch, or you are a Bad (Dark) Witch, you are a Witch nonetheless. There is debate in the Pagan
community regarding the boundaries, which exist between good and evil in the realm of magic. I believe it all
boils down to the individual. Regardless of your religious identity, if you are a good-natured person, this will be
reflected in your behavior, and your religion. This is certainly true with ill-natured people as well. I have no
intention of lecturing you on the rights and wrongs of magic, but I do hope that everyone act in a responsible
manner when dealing in the magical arts. It may be useful to familiarize yourself with the Wiccan Rede, which
helps set guidelines for moral behavior in practicing Witchcraft. This is particularly helpful when discussing
magic with young adults as well. Below is one of many versions of the Wiccan Rede, whose author remains
unknown.

Wiccan Rede
Bide the Wiccan Laws we must,
In perfect Love and Perfect Trust.
Live and let live,
Fairly take and fairly give.
Cast the Circle thrice about,
To keep the evil spirits out.
To bind the spell every time,
Let the spell be spoke in rhyme.
Soft of eye and light of touch,
Speak little, listen much.
Deosil go by the waxing moon,
Chanting out the Witches' Rune.
Widdershins go by the waning-moon,
Chanting out the baneful rune.
When the lady's moon is new,
Kiss the hand to her, times two.
When the moon rides at her peak,
Then your heart's desire seek.
Heed the North wind's mighty gale,
Lock the door and drop the sail.
When the wind comes from the South,
Love will kiss thee on the mouth.
When the wind blows from the West,
Departed souls will have no rest.
When the wind blows from the East,
Expect the new and set the feast.
Nine woods in the cauldron go,
Burn them fast and burn them slow.
Elder be the Lady's tree,
Burn it not or cursed you'll be.
When the Wheel begins to turn,
Let the Beltane fires burn.
When the Wheel has turned to Yule,
Light the logs and Horned one rules.
Heed ye Flower, Bush and Tree,

10

By the Lady, blessed be.

When the rippling waters go,
Cast a stone and truth you'll know.
When ye have a true need,
Hearken not to other's greed.
With a fool no season spend,
Lest ye be counted as his friend.
Merry meet and merry part,
Bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind the Threefold Law you should,
Three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow,
Wear the blue star on thy brow.
True is love ever be,
Lest thy lover's false to thee.
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill,
An' Harm ye none, do as you will.

Magic Coming Back

There is also a theory concerning ones magic coming back to them. It is a common belief that these negative or
positive vibrations will come back to you in multiples of three or more. For example, lets say you curse Tom,
according to the rule of three...or six, or nine...you would receive negativity back, but worse, and bad things would
soon begin to happen to you. The same can be said for the opposite. If you work good magic, and perform
multiple acts of healing, you may be rewarded very nicely.
This boomerang theory regarding your Magic coming back is another issue under debate by many in the Pagan
communities, but my personal opinion is that it does exist. Regardless of one's religious affiliation, I think we all
endure the repercussions of our actions, regardless if our intentions are good or bad. Some people believe that
your magic will come back to you nine times, but it is unlikely, judging from my own experience. Your Magic
does in fact come back to you, but I dont think the degree is accurately represented by most Pagans. From
personal experience, I would say that it comes back to you in the same degree which you sent it out. I think you get
back what you send out, just in a different package, but the same degree.
I would like to add, that Ive performed Magic which I felt was very negative, and never received what I
would consider the Payback of the 3X Rule. At the time, I certainly felt I was doing the world a favor by
binding and causing destruction to this particular person. Perhaps my negative Magic was really goodness in
disguise.
Maybe the rule of X is psychological, and if you believe you are doing evil, evil will then find its way to
you. If you feel you're doing good through performing negative magic, then maybe its not negative Magic, but
good Magic after all. Perhaps the rule of 3X was a device created by earlier Pagans to attempt to instill a sense of
morality, or more likely fear into people for wanting to perform potential negative Magic. Like an unwritten law
or a rule of thumb to persuade others not to be bad. Its also possible that a tiny bit of each of these possibilities
comes into play when you perform Magic and the time comes for you to roll in the rewards or suffer the
consequences. I ask students to evaluate their motives and the possible repercussions when performing their
Magic, especially when the Magic is negative and may involve a 2nd or 3rd person. You should certainly ask
yourself how your Magic will impact these other people, and how the repercussions will affect you.

12

Gods & Goddesses

Since I've began my studies of various religions, and more particular, as the owner of an occult supply
business, Ive learned that almost everyone in the Pagan community bows down to a different deity. While most
Covens will agree as a group on issues such as deity names and idols, a solitary practitioner may pray to whatever
deity he or she chooses. For this reason, I have made this book versatile for anyone to use. To practice the spells,
and rituals in this book, you need not be a High Priest or Priestess of a Coven, or even a long schooled Pagan.
Simply incorporate the God/s or Goddesses of your personal preference into the spells and rituals when
necessary. This will also help personalize the spells for you, which will encourage the effectiveness of the work
you are performing.
I do not presume to understand the complexities of a source so incredibly above my intellectual reasoning as
God. That is why I personally do not choose to ascribe God with a name. For me, this entity is a force, above
nature, above description. While I fully expect your personal views regarding the essence of God to greatly differ
from mine, I certainly do not feel others are wrong. On the contrary, I believe that Religion is merely a path to
God. What path you choose is irrelevant, as long as the end result is a closer relationship with God. Regardless
if you are Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, God is still God, and the name you choose, if any, should mean something to
you, with respect to your personal religious views.

13

14

Witchcraft, like most Pagan religions around the world maintain a pyramid style deity structure in their hierarchy
of Gods & Goddesses. At the top of the pyramid you have the highest being, or as most people refer to it, God.
This deity usually doesn't resemble man, and is usually considered the strongest force within the universe. The rest
of the pyramid is made up of other lesser deities, which contain aspects of God and man combined. The second
layer of the pyramid, underneath God, is usually where you will find the major God & Goddess. Underneath the
God and Goddess, you will find other minor Gods and Goddesses which will represent more specific attributes,
such as Love Goddesses, Rain Gods, Gods of War, etc. Now, not all Pagans, myself included, choose to summon
the help from lesser deities, or even acknowledge their existence for that matter, but I hear their help can be quite
useful. Most people I encounter usually prefer to work with what they feel is the most important, and powerful
deity of them all, God.

15

Gender in Magic
After the initial publication of this book, I was contacted by a reader wanting to understand the roles of males
in Magic. Because of the Goddess movement seen within the last decade, many men and young males have been
left confused by the obvious sexual discrimination seen mostly in Wiccan covens. Males seeking spiritual
guidance and participation in Covens are often rejected simply because of their anatomy. There are a lot of
reasons why women would want to work with other women exclusively, but it doesnt necessarily make it right or
wrong. Some women dont enjoy working with men within a Coven simply to avoid the sexual tension which may
eventually arise. Other women believe that men arent conducive to effective Magic, which is not an opinion I
hold in high esteem.
Thankfully, balanced Magic is becoming more popular, as most Covens today practice with both Male and
Females, acknowledging the contributions of both sexes. In practicing magic today, unless you are a Satanist, your
gender is irrelevant. Some branches of Satanism believe that only women can harness the true powers of Magic,
but honestly, that really isnt a popular belief in the Pagan community, and for good reason. If you are a man, you
should cast your spells with confidence, and use Magic to the fullest. Your spells will certainly, without a doubt,
be as effective as any womans. Granted, there are a handful of spells which, because of your sex, you simply
wont be able to perform, like spell #30, which calls for the use of your menstrual blood. You wouldnt want to
perform spell #26 to regulate your menstrual cycle either. Other than those scenarios, any spell in any book should
be just as successful for you as they would a woman.

16

What Makes Successful Magic

What makes Magic work? There are various factors, which lead to successful magic, and many of these
practices are supported by scientific reasoning, as well as recent FDA studies of certain plants mentioned in the
pages of this book. Many of these spells, concoctions, and brews are derived from actual healing practices
passed down from generations of healers. While Shamans, Healers, and Doctors have continued to use these
plants in their practices for thousands of years, our modern day scientific communities have only just begun to
recognize these benefits as worthy of study. As a result of this new found interest, many of the healing properties
of these long used herbs are being confirmed as fact. Studies have shown that aromatherapy is not a web of wives
tales as some may believe. The healing qualities of herbs and plants can be obtained in various ways, and will
vary depending on whether the herbs will need to be taken internally, or applied externally. If the herb is to be
taken internally, the safest, and most productive method would be to purchase a bottle of pharmaceutical grade,
supplemental capsules, or tablets. These can be found at your local department, drug, health store, or from the
sources found at the back of this book.
Another attribute, which leads to effective magic, is certainly a strong spiritual awareness. You must
acknowledge a higher source, and be able to submit yourself to this force, and yet command it to do your bidding.
This is tremendously hard for some people to accomplish, especially if they have only one deity they
acknowledge. They may not be able to bring themselves to demand things from God. This is partly why many
people have various deities or idols they call upon to do their bidding, but kneel down to a higher source for
serious help and guidance.
The power of the mind is in fact, a powerful thing, which happens to be my third support for effective Magic.
You must believe in yourself, as a source of Magic. Until a person realizes that they have the potential to make
powerful changes, they will be unsuccessful at their efforts. Im not going to attempt to explain the scientific and
psychological data which supports the fact that self esteem makes a difference in ones abilities, but it does, and
we all know this. Meaning, what you believe you can do, will definitely impact the results of what you do.
Another supporting factor in producing effective Magic which holds true in a small portion of occult practices
stems from hysteria. It is very possible, and actually very easy to manipulate someone into succumbing to a curse.
While curses and hexes are fairly simple to protect yourself from, if you have the knowledge, and willpower;
however, many people succumb to them simply because they allow themselves to accept the curse, in which case,
it will usually play itself out on the intended victim.
The power of the mind, combined with ones willpower can accomplish tasks scientists havent yet begun to
understand. Regardless if your commands are verbal, or are an offering of herbs, or are in the form of a silent
ritual, the ultimate goal is to express your desires or your need for a particular action, and to get results. Many
practitioners only practice certain mediums of magic like candle magic, or spirit summoning, or herbal healing.
The method you choose is not nearly as important as your convictions while performing the Magic. It is your intent
and willpower which will ultimately make your magic effective.

17

Initiation into Witchcraft

Why would someone want to be initiated into Witchcraft, or into a Pagan school of thought? You will know
when, or if this is something you will want to do when the time comes. If your interest into the Occult is more than
a passing phase, and you continue your studies of the Magical Arts, this is definitely a step you may want to
consider. The Initiation act itself serves as a mental and physical acknowledgment of your new religious path. Its
also a cleansing act, similar to a Christian Baptism, a rebirth of your spiritual senses, and an awakening of your
consciousness.
Self-Initiation
There are probably as many Initiation Rites and Ceremonies as there are trees in the world, and one is not
necessarily better than another. But, if you are searching for a good Initiation Ceremony, and you dont want to
write your own, you should look for one that is particularly appropriate for you, with regard to your personal
interests and beliefs. Some rites and ceremonies can be as complex as a formal wedding, or as simple as a silent
unspoken vow between you and the higher power. Although I have been formally initiated into the Craft, I have
also performed a self initiation, which I believe is all one really needs in order to become initiated in the arts of
Magic. I would certainly recommend initiating yourself before becoming initiated into a Coven.
Simple Self Initiation Rite
1. Begin by lighting Frankincense incense. Let the incense burn for a few minutes while you prepare yourself a
warm bath with no additives such as soap, salts, oils, herbs, etc.
2. Slip into the bath and let the water cleanse away all of your negativity, doubt, hostility, agitation, stress, or
any negative feelings or thoughts. Concentrate on the water releasing and cleansing your body, spirit and mind of
any obstacles which may interfere with your concentration during your Magic.
3. Once your thoughts are cleared, you should now consciously accept that you do have the ability to
manipulate circumstances with your Magic.
4. Pray to the Higher being/s (God / Gods & Goddesses) to aid you in your Magic in return for your devotion
and appreciation for assistance given.
5. Slip out of the bath and dry yourself off. Take the burning incense and let the smoke flow over your body
and accept that your life is now on a new path. Thank the Higher Being/s for their guidance. You should now get
dressed, and grab an Occult book, and start learning as much as you can about the Magical Arts, for you can never
know too much.
Group (Coven) Initiations
If you do seek initiation into a Coven, you should examine your motives before doing so to make sure your
actions will be beneficial. There are a few things one must consider before accepting an initiation into a group or
coven. It is very important to find out everything you possibly can about the group or Coven before agreeing to
add your name to the roster. You should study many occult related books, and formulate your own thought pattern
with reference to the way you feel about your new religion, and what it means to you. The Coven you join should
reflect your beliefs about Magic, and should not compromise your values.

Chapter 2
Amulets, Charms & Talismans

19

The talismans, charms, & seals you will read about in this chapter, by no means, represent all the various symbols
used, and available to the practicing Pagan. The ones mentioned here are however, some of the most popular you
will come across during your studies of Occult religions. Talismans are used much the same way, regardless of the
core religion from which they were designed for. They serve to protect, banish, heal, curse, bind, and manipulate
your surroundings with Magic. These symbols can often represent a Love spell, Money spell, Healing spell, or any
other spell the wearer has performed. While their uses are innumerable, the most popular talismans used, are those
associated with protection and healing. An amulet is a natural talisman, the most popular being a rock with a hole
in the center, known as the witchs stone.

Spell Components & Tools
Whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well.
~Lord Chesterfield, Letter to His God Son

34

Tools

You will find the tools utilized in this book are very simple and most are easy to obtain. The tools are kept to
a minimum, for easy, targeted successful magic. Although, you may be inclined to think that successful magic cant
be this easy! But it really is. Most of the information in this book are spells that have been around for a very long
time, and for good reason. They are effective. Some of the tools which you will be using in this book include
candles, incense, oils, and herbs. These are your basic necessities in practicing successful magic. In the back of
this book, you will find a wonderful source of stores and businesses who offer a wide assortment of economical
materials from candles, incense, oils, oil blends, crystals, stones, and much more. These businesses will have
everything you need to perform perfect magic, and are easy to order from. Most are accessible through the internet,
or you can call and request a catalog.

Candles and Colors

Candles are a great part of the magic you will be performing in these pages. The colors of candles are said to
obtain qualities, which can exhibit magical properties. These properties are attributed to the color of the candles,
and the oils used to anoint them, as well as the herbs used in dressing them. You can anoint a candle with oils or
herbs simply by rubbing them onto the candle. Concentrate on the desired effect of the spell while anointing the
candle. The same can be done with herbs by sprinkling the top of the candle, in the hot wax, with the desired
herb. Be sure to watch the candle closely while doing this, for the herbs are highly likely to catch fire and burn.
Below is a guide to help you understand these attributes and their place in the magical scheme of things.
Red
Red candles are used in matters dealing with strong emotions, such as love, and anger. For this reason it is
often used in revenge, or passion based spells.
Blue
Blue candles are generally used in matters pertaining to the promotion of health, and the recovery of illnesses,
or ailments. It also is used when one wants to embody trust, and empathy in the eyes of others.
Yellow
Yellow candles are usually used in magic dealing with new beginnings, or peaceful changes. They are also
burned when one wants to promote or encourage spiritual growth.
Green
Green candles are often burned when matters of money are a concern. Green candles are also great for
fertility spells, and are used in many healing ceremonies as well.
Black
Black candles are used most often when one wants to add a little extra power to their practices. Black also
embodies forceful attributes, and helps in matters which require immediate attention and resolution.
Purple
Purple candles are used when one is trying to obtain peace, or tranquility. Purple candles will help promote a
relaxing environment. They are also commonly used in healing spells.
White
White candles are primarily used in spells concerning cleansings or purity. When one is performing healing
spells, white candles will certainly not hurt either. You can also use them when working other general magic.
Pink
Pink Candles are almost exclusively used for matters dealing with romance, desire, sex, and fertility; however,
they also promote peace.

38

Herbs
Herbs are going to be the most commonly used tool in this book. I use them in teas, baths, candles, oils,
sachets, and many other ways. If you have been practicing magic for a little while you will probably already
know where to find most of the herbs mentioned here. If you are not a current practitioner, there may be a few of
the herbs mentioned that you are not familiar with. These herbs can be purchased through the retailers listed in the
back of this book. However, most of the herbs you will need can be found in the spice or vegetable section of your
local grocery store.
I strongly advise using caution when performing any spell involving the or digesting of any herb. I have tried
to include only those spells which are not ordinarily dangerous; however, I suggest you familiarize yourself with
possible allergic reactions.
I would also strongly encourage everyone to make sure, when drinking the teas that you are using the exact
ingredients listed in the spells for the tea infusions. I would not suggest picking your own herbs in the wild for
spells which require you to digest the herbs or herbal infusion, for the risk is not worth the reward, as many wild
herbs are fatal if ingested.
Below, I have listed most of the herbs you will be running across while reading this book. As you will see,
you are probably, at least vaguely familiar with most of them.
Almonds
Apple
Basil
Chamomile
Cinnamon
Clove
Comfrey
Damiana
Dragons Blood
Echinacea
Eucalyptus
Fenugreek
Frankincense
Garlic
Ginger
Ginseng
Honeysuckle
Lavender
Mint
Mugwort

39

Myrrh
Patchouli
Rose
Rosemary
St. Johns Wort
Sandalwood
Valerian

40

41

Sachets
Sachets will also be used in many of the spells that follow. These will basically consist of herbs in a pouch.
Some spells may require the pouch to be a certain color, or particular cloth. If this is the case, it will be noted in
the spell. You can easily make a sachet by using small bits of old material or cloth, and tying the herbs with string
or yarn inside of the cloth. Sachets are usually placed in a particular spot or carried with you for the desired
effect.
Oils
Oils are another very important part of successful magic. I recommend using high grade pharmaceutical quality
oils in your magical practices. Many of the healing spells and ceremonies in this book are based on the scientific
factual healing properties of herbs and oils. Therefore, it would be best to use only oils of good quality and rich
scent, which will perform the best job possible. Most of these oils can be found in department stores, and drug
stores. The oil retailers found in the back of this book offer wonderfully high quality oils, and have proven very
effective for me.
Almond (Sweet)
Cedar
Cinnamon
Clove
Dragons Blood
Eucalyptus
Frankincense
Honeysuckle
Lavender
Mint
Myrrh
Patchouli
Rose
Rosemary
Sandalwood
Tea Tree
Incense
Within this collection of spells, you will find many of them involve the use of incense to perform the desired
act of purifying, cleansing, or blessing. While the processes may be similar in the various spells, the ingredients,
motives, and desired results are not, and differ greatly from spell to spell.

42

43

As with the other tools you will be using, incense is a pretty widely available product. If you have oil available to
you, you can easily make your own incense by putting your desired oil onto a punk stick (fireworks lighter), or
onto another scented incense stick. These too may be purchased at your local store, or online. Below are most of
the common scents you will be using.
Chamomile
Cinnamon
Clove
Dragons Blood
Eucalyptus
Frankincense
Honeysuckle
Lavender
Mint
Myrrh
Patchouli
Rose
Rosemary
Sandalwood
The most common process, which is still in use today in many religions, involves passing the smoke over the
targeted objects or persons. Most groups and individuals who use incense for blessing perform these acts with
small, one inch charcoal tablets on which they burn the required herb such as Frankincense, Myrrh, Lavender, or
Sandalwood. This, once the charcoal has become red hot, emits an incredibly pure and wonderfully scented
smoke from the smoldering herb placed on top. This is the purest form of incense you will be able to use, and is
the preferred method of many because of its superior results and aroma. Charcoal tablets, made specifically for
the burning of herbs may be hard to obtain, but incense sticks and cones are also used. For best results it is
recommended that the sticks and cones be produced using high quality pure essential oils when available.
Homes, buildings, and any piece of property may be blessed, cleansed, or purified, simply by exposing the
place to the smoke of the specified incense. This will purify the area where the incense is burned, and may be
carried throughout a home or building to purify the entire premises. When purifying people with smoke, the
incense should be moved around the person, particularly the lower legs. Since smoke rises, this will ensure that
the maximum amount of smoke exposure is received, without choking anyone. You should never hold incense near
anyones face, as this will cause severe discomfort to the eyes and nose, and will do more harm than good. When
purifying small objects, such as religious or healing tools, the articles are to be casually passed through the smoke
of the specified incense for a few moments.

44

Stones
A select few of the upcoming spells will involve the use of stones. These too can be purchased online, if you
cannot find them locally. Stones are a very useful tool in the magical arts, and they are fun to collect as well, but
are not a necessity. If you are looking to purchase stones, I would suggest referring to the retailers in the back of
this book for high quality stones. Below you will find basic information on a select few stones, detailing the most
popular uses and attributes known for each.
Agate
Agate is said to bring strength to the mind and body. Its also worn for courage, and is believed to promote
healing, and peacefulness.
Amber
This unique yellowish brown stone is actually fossilized tree resin, and is used for balancing, harmonizing,
and promoting general well being. Its also used to dispel negativity.
Amethyst
Amethyst, which is a lavender to purple variety of quartz, is said to strengthen the immune system. It is also
used to aid with combating mental disorders and addiction. Amethyst is also said to increase psychic and
channeling abilities, as well as general intelligence.
Bloodstone
A beautiful dark green stone, with maroon veins, the bloodstone is a useful tool in Magic. It is said to be a
great healing stone, perfect for diseases of the heart, spleen, and the liver in particular. Others use it for its
abilities to promote the reduction of stress. It too is believed to increase psychic abilities.
Copper
Copper is used to aid with the flow of blood, increase metabolism, increase energy, and help aid with mental
stability.
Diamond
Diamonds are used predominately to promote faithfulness, but are also used to increase brain function. They
are also believed to promote purity, and to dispel negativity.
Emerald
Emeralds are said to strengthen the nervous system. They are also believed to enhance meditation, dreams, and
psychic awareness.
Garnet
Garnets are believed to revitalize the entire body, and are said to promote love, kindness, and peace.
Gold
Gold is said to draw in positive energy to your aura, and to speed up tissue repair and regeneration.
Hematite
An elegant, almost iridescent, metallic black stone, Hematite has been used for thousands of years, and
continues to be a prominent stone in Occult shops today. The most common use is for protection, but other popular

45

uses are for strength, and courage. Its believed that if you are partial to Hematite, and like the appearance and
color of the stone, the stone will work its Magic better for you than others who are impartial.
Jade
Jade is often used to dispel negativity, and to impart wisdom and insight. It is also commonly used in money
spells, and is to be carried with you for good luck in your financial matters.
Jasper
Jasper is believed to be a very potent general healing stone, used for a variety of ailments and illnesses.
Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli is one of my favorite stones, for its deep rich blue color. The stone is usually veined with gold,
which made it a favorite of the Ancient Egyptians, who used it to adorn everything from sarcophagus, tapestries,
statues, necklaces and anything they wanted to look regal. Today, it is used to increase psychic abilities, and to aid
in obtaining contact with higher beings and spirits.
Moonstone
Another one of my favorites is the Moonstone, identifiable by its milky white appearance. It too is used to aid
in psychic communication, as well as a general healing stone. It is also used more specifically for healing female
issues, and is said to create emotional balance and stability.
Obsidian
Obsidian, a beautiful black stone, is said to help clear the mind of obstacles while meditating and contacting
spirits. Its also used for general healing when carried as an amulet.
Onyx
Onyx is used to help aid in relieving stress, and encourages balance. It is also said to help maintain emotional
balance and help control bad tempers.
Opal
The Opal is said to increase the relationship between you and God, strengthening the connection. Its also
been used to aid in balancing emotions.
Clear Quartz Crystal
Quartz crystals are by far, the most popular stones used by Pagans today. The uses for crystals range from
spirit summoning to healing pain, from dispelling negativity to providing protection. Its been said that whenever
you tote a crystal with you, it will give you energy when you need it, and store it when you produce too much,
almost like an energy regulator. Crystals are also used for meditation, to clear the mind and body of external
vibrations.
Rose Quartz Crystal
Rose Quartzs soft pink hue is often a slightly translucent, but milky color. Rose Quartz today is most used in
Love Spells, but still maintains a strong presence in healing techniques. It has been used for healing headaches, if
placed underneath the pillow while napping. Its also reported to relieve stress, emotional imbalances. It is also
supposed to bring about feelings of peace, and tranquility in an environment where it is placed.
Tigers Eye
Tigers Eyes is another beautiful stone still being utilized. Its a yellow and brown striped stone, used to dispel
46

negativity and also for obtaining truth or clarity on an issue.

Turquoise
Turquoise is another stone used for aiding in meditation, and is also believed to increase creativity in whoever
possesses it. Its most popular use is wearing or carrying it for protection.

Holy or Blessed Water

Holy Water is not a new tool to Witchcraft or Paganism, and has proven so useful in the past that the Roman
Catholic Church adapted the practice from its Pagan conquests during the early formation of Christianity. The uses
for Holy water are many, and it remains to this day a valuable tool in almost every religion. Wiccans may call it
Blessed Water, and Voudons may refer to it as Devil Water, and Catholics may purchase it as Florida Water,
or Blessed Mother Mary Water it is one in the same, ultimately, being water which has been blessed by a higher
power to aid in ones religious workings.
Although the concept behind Holy Water is the same, its varied uses are many. It remains to be used in modern
religions to protect, banish, heal, curse, enlighten, cleanse, purify, and the list goes on. One may be inclined to
think that such a powerful potion would be hard to come by; however, it is a most simple concoction involving
only a little bit of water and a lot of spiritualism.
Producing Holy Water is an act needed to be done when your spiritual attunement, and/or awareness is high,
and you are comfortable and confident about performing magic. As a Pagan, I prefer performing this act within my
circle. When setting up your tools for this act, your necessary components will be natural flowing fresh or salt
water, either from a creek, river, lake, sea, ocean, or collected rain water (tap water is not recommended). If sea
or ocean water is unavailable, you will want to add 1 teaspoon of salt to every 8 oz. of fresh water you will be
blessing. Once you have the salt water ready, place it in front of you. Incense is actually optional in this case, but
I would strongly encourage anyone to try and burn Frankincense during the blessing, if at all possible.
Frankincense has been used since the times when the God Set ruled the underworld of Ancient Egypt, and
remains to be used today in many various religions, and continues to be a potent ingredient in all forms Magic.
Candles are also optional in the case of Blessing water, but do help set a spiritual mood for any blessing,
ceremony, spell, or incantation. If you are pagan, you will want to lay four white candles around the circle,
signifying the cardinal points of direction, and place two white candle upon your altar.
Kneel or sit in front of the bowl of salt water, and close your eyes. Concentrate on connecting with God, or
your Higher Being/s. Ask silently or aloud, for His/Their assistance in producing this potion of great power.
Explain for what it will be served for, and how you will use its power. Proclaim your need for assistance in
creating the essence of His/Their power to serve your religious acts.

48

49

Hold your hands over the bowl, and look above, toward the sky, and accept the power of God, and move it through
your body, and into the bowl of water. Continue with this procedure for a few minutes or until you feel the act has
been completed, and the God/s have assisted you in your workings.
Once you have completed the above, you may exit your area of worship, or casting, and prepare the water to
be used in your various magical workings. The water should be stored in an airtight container if possible, but can
be stored in any bottle for short periods of time. You will not want to keep the water for more than two weeks at
a time due to bacteria. My personal favorite storage container for my Blessed Water is a spray bottle, originally
purchased for plant misting. Spray bottles are perfect when you are performing acts which require you to expose a
large area to Holy Water. They come in most handy for spirit banishing, house purifications & spiritual cleansings
of large areas.

Dolls
(Voodoo Dolls &Wiccan Poppets)
Whether you prefer to call them Voodoo Dolls, or Poppets, they embody the same method of magic. The
Healing Poppet is a Wiccan title assigned to what has traditionally been known as the Voodoo Doll; however, the
two cultures differ in their uses of the magical dolls. The Wiccan culture does not use these types of dolls for
cursing, or for any negative purposes whatsoever. On the other hand, cursing, and hexing are the primary uses for
such dolls in the Voodoo culture. The dolls are usually made from socks, shirts, pants, or any pieces of clothing or
a cloth, as long as it belongs to the person you are directing the magic toward. Ideally the closer the association
between the person and the material, all the better.
The first thing you will need to do is to lay out the material you have from the person in question, and draw a
pattern of the doll you want to create using a pattern similar to the one illustrated in the next picture.
Keep in mind, you will be hand sewing the doll together, so you may want to keep the size of the doll fairly
small. After you have drawn the front and back of your pattern, cut both of the sides out, and place the two sides
together so that they match up.

51

52

Now, you can begin to sew the sides together with your needle and thread. I do not recommend the use of a
sewing machine to complete the doll, as this will detract from the potency of your magical intentions. The easiest
way to sew the doll up, with respect to filling it up later with herbs, would be to begin on the shoulder area, and
work your way down the body, and back up to the other shoulder. To make the body of your doll more aesthetically
pleasing, you can turn the doll inside out after you sew the body together; although, you will not be able to do this
with the head, and the stitches will still be seen.

53

54

You are now ready to fill the doll up with your herbs, which will vary depending on the work you are performing.
Use a pencil, or small stick to poke the herbs through the head to the legs and arms. When you have the entire
body filled up, except for the head, you proceed to fill up the head area, as best you can, then sew it up to finish the
doll. If you so desire, you can add finishing touches such as yarn for hair, and small stitches for the eyes and
mouth. You can also highlight particular areas of ailment and illness by stitching marks where the illnesses lie.

55

56

For the doll to be effective, the key is to concentrate on healing the sick person while creating the doll itself. Once
the doll is completed, place it in a safe place, where it will not be seen, such as under the bed, or in a closet. You
do not have to place the doll close to the ill person for this to be effective, nor do they have to know that the doll
has ever been made.

Time to Work Magic
All things are ready, if our minds be so.

Holidays
Because I am a solitary practitioner, I do not usually take advantage of the festivities which arise on the Pagan
Holidays. I usually observe these holidays in my home with friends and family. I will say, Ive been to a few of
these events, and they have all been wonderfully exhilarating. If you have never celebrated a holiday with a coven,
I certainly encourage anyone, if given the opportunity, to do so. However, the spells and rituals mentioned in this
book are meant for a solitary practitioner, and can be performed at any time. Below, you will find a quick
reference guide to the most common Pagan holidays, as well as a rudimentary diagram of a Pagan Calendar, or
wheel of the year.
Candlemas
(Imbolc, Brigid)
February 2
Cadlemas, or Imbolc celebrates the anticipation and coming of spring. It is also a time for purification, and a
great time for the beginnings of new projects.
Ostara
(Spring Equinox)
March 20-23 dates vary
The Spring Equinox is a celebration of the arrival of Spring. This is also a great time for fertility, and
cleansing, purification, initiations, and love spells. Traditionally, this signifies the start of the planting season.
Beltane
(Walpurgis Night) April 30
(May Day ) May 1
Beltane and May Day are both celebrations of beauty, and summer. Flowers and plants are always a great part
of the festivities, as well as sweet refreshments.

59

60

Litha
(Midsummers Eve, Summer Solstice)
June 20-23 dates vary
The Summer Solstice celebrates the longest day of the year, with glory to the sun. Day Festivals are popular,
with cool refreshments for the warm days.
Lughnassad
(Lammas)
August 1
Lammas is a celebration of the harvest. Traditionally, this would be one of the times of year for harvesting
crops. Today, it is celebrated with appreciation toward the Earth in mind. The holiday spirit is shown by eating
cakes, and other bread products such as cookies, and pies.
Mabon
(Fall Equinox)
September 20 - 30 date varies
The Fall Equinox is a wonderful celebration for the soon arrival of winter, and the end of summer.
Traditionally, this would be the time for the second harvest for crops. Today, it celebrated with thankfulness for
abundance in mind. At this time of year, be thankful for the abundance of food you have by celebrating with wine
and savory pies.
Samhain
(Halloween, All Hallows Eve, Novembers Eve)
October 31
My personal favorite of the Pagan holidays, Halloween, is celebrated by almost all in some form or another,
regardless of ones religious identity. Traditionally, it represents the final harvest. All the crops are dying off, and
what you have, is all you have, until spring. This could have been a grim time for some, in the old days if that
last harvest wasnt good enough. This time of year has subsequently been associated with death in many different
cultures. As a result of this association, cultures choose to laugh death in the face by dressing up, and facing the
morbid head on. This is also great time for contacting the deceased. This day is also a celebration of the
oncoming end of the year. Celebrate with pumpkins, jack-o lanterns and be as witchy as you can!
Yule
(Winter Solstice)
December 20 - 23 dates vary
Yule is the longest night of the year, and represents the celebration of Winter, and the Horned God. This is a
great time for a crisp celebration in the woods, with a camp fire and friends. Traditional accessories to a Winter
Solstice festival would be a Yule log or mistletoe. Drinking warm spiced cider wine is a favorite pastime of mine
for those chilly Yule celebrations. This is the main Winter Holiday for Pagans, being very similar to a
combination of Christmas and the New Year for others. Personally, the Fall/Autumn, and Winter Seasons are my

61

favorite time of the year, which celebrates the Horned one. There always seems to be a spark in the air, with
Halloween on the way, and cooler weather rolling in.

62

63

Winter Solstice
Feel his arrival in the brisk Yule winds,
See his coming in the steel gray skies,
In the barren oaks, with mistletoe hanging forth,
The Dark One awakes, with the birth of death.
The trees, dormant, hide his shadows.
The cold skies carry his spirit,
The warm earth opens up to his cold kiss.
God has come, The Solstice is here,
May we celebrate with warm wine,
May we laugh with true merriment,
And be glad he has found us again.

Moon Phases
Unless otherwise noted, the spells in this book do not need to be performed at any special time of day. The
moon phase may be applicable in certain instances, but will be mentioned if necessary. Below is a quick reference
guide for the moon phases, and the attributes they may assist you with in your magical workings. Although the
moon phase may not be necessary, it will certainly encourage the strength of spells done at appropriate times.
This knowledge will also be very useful for gardeners as well.

65

66

New Moon
(1st Quarter)
O
During the New Moon phase, the moon is not directly lit by sunlight. Magically, this phase would be the ideal
time for performing forms of divination. In the garden, this would be the perfect time to plant above land crops
with outside seeds, and flowering annuals.
Waxing Moon
(2nd Quarter)
(
At this time of Waxing phase, the moon is partially lit by the sunlight, but the light is increasing. Magically, this
phase is a good time to perform spells ad magic pertaining to gaining wealth or prosperity. This is also an ideal
time for matters concerning fertility. In the garden, this is a great time for planting.
Full Moon
(3rd Quarter)
O
During the Full Moon phase, the moon is fully illuminated by the light of the sun. Magically, this phase is a
great time for practicing magical of all kinds. There is a high energy peak during the period before, during, and
after a full moon, so use it wisely. This is also a great time for deep purification ceremonies. In the garden, now
would be a good time to plant below ground crops, such as root crops, bulbous plants, biennials, and perennials as
well.
Waning Moon
(4th Quarter)
)
At this time of the phase, the moon light is decreasing. Magically, this phase is suitable for cursing and other
negative acts. This is also a good time for performing spells involving the manipulation of other people, such as
love spells. In the Garden, this is not a good time to plant, however, this is an excellent time for weeding, and
mowing your yard. Recurring growth will be slower if plants are cut or trimmed in this quarter.

67

Circle Magic
When suggested, you may want to perform your magic in a circle. This, for a Pagan is a spiritual place. It is
similar to others paying a visit to their local church or place of worship. There are however, a few differences.
This is where you consecrate & clean your tools or yourself. Most purification rituals need to be performed
inside a consecrated circle. Coming up, you will find a quick reference guide for setting up a circle of your own,
if you are not familiar with the practice. Modification to the circle is certainly acceptable when rearranging your
altar tools, as this is just a guide. Just keep in mind that your tools should be place in easily accessible and safe
areas. You do not want to burn a hole in your arm from a candle flame while leaning over to light the incense!
Visit your circle any time you feel the need for a spiritual fix, or you feel the need to put a little oomph in your
magic. You will learn more about particular circle ceremonies in the Spells chapter. The next chart is pretty self
explanatory, and is similar to the illustration for producing Holy Water; however, I would like to mention that the
bowls are representing the various herbs & water you may use in your ceremony or spell, and will vary depending
on the work you are doing.

Chapter 5
Divination
To know ourselves diseased is half our cure.
~Alexander Pope

70

Divination
You will find that a portion of the upcoming spells will deal with the art and skill of prophecy. There are
many techniques used to enhance ones abilities for prophesying the future. There are an uncountable number of
tools which people use to act as a medium for these prophecies. While I am sure you are familiar with Tarot,
there are many others which I encourage everyone to experiment with. If tarot isnt for you, or if you just dont
care for the cards, you could try working with Runes. Crystal Balls are another common tool for fortune telling,
along with palm reading and the interpretation of tea leaves. Another fun method of fortunetelling is through the use
of a pendulum. Below, you will find a simple chart you can use with any pendulum. Simply hold the pendulum
approximately one to two inches above the pendulum chart. Keep it as still as you can, without tensing up. You
must remain relaxed. If the pendulum begins to swing in a direction, let the answer reveal itself. If the pendulum
begins to swing in a circle, you should stop, and state your question again, more precisely if possible. Regardless
of the tools you use for divination, you will find many helpful hints for enhancing your abilities within the spells.

71

72

Runes
Long before the time of Christ, Runes were used for divination and performing magic. Today, Runes can be
purchased in a wide variety of stones and amulets, and are very easy to make, if you prefer producing your own
tools. Most runes are made of stones, but can also be made of wood, bone, antlers, metal, plaster, or any durable
material which can be manipulated into small amulets. The runic symbols are usually painted, or carved onto the
amulet to give each one its own attribute. Once you have a set, which consists usually of 25 runes, including the
blank rune, you will want to keep them together in a durable bag or pouch of some sort.
The Elder Futhark
The Runes we will be discussing here are the most popular and widely seen on the market today, derived from
a Germanic tribe. The tribes system of writing consisted of 24 hieroglyphs, today called Futhark, because that is
what the first six letters of the alphabet spell, as you will see. For each hieroglyph, there are multiple meanings,
depending on how it is being used. For each rune, there is a meaning, as well as a place in the alphabet, and a
prophetic meaning as well. They were used much the same way the Ancient Egyptians used their hieroglyphs.
They can be used together with other runes to spell words, or alone to represent a particular object, or concept.
They were also used to represent particular trees. During divination, each rune represents a certain attribute, with
a different attribute if the rune is inverted.
The Aetts
The Futhark alphabet is divided into three groups called Aetts. These Aetts consist of the Freys Aett, the
Hagals Aett, and the Tyrs Aett, and are named after Nordic Gods. The Freys Aett represents the first eight runes
of the alphabet. The Hagals Aett represents the ninth through the sixteenth runes in the Futhark alphabet. The
Tyrs Aett represent the last eight runes in the alphabet. For reference, I have listed under each rune, the Aett to
which that rune belongs.

73

74

Below each rune you will find relevant information about its meaning and interpretation. In many instances, there
are two different commonly used names for one rune, and this will be indicated in parenthesis, as in the case of the
first rune, the Fehu. It is also know as Feoh. Also you will find under each rune, the hieroglyphic meaning, the
equivalent modern English alphabetic letter, the Aett to which that rune belongs, and the various general meanings
used during divination with the runes.
The meanings of the runes should be applied to the particular places in the layout in which they are laid. In the
various layouts listed later on, you will find a general pattern consisting of the Past, Present, and Future sections in
the layouts. For example, the first rune, Fehu, represents wealth and prosperity. If this rune were placed in a
past section of the layout, this might indicate that the person for whom the reading is being done may have
received a large sum of money in the recent past. If the same rune were placed in a future section of the layout,
this might indicate that the person may be receiving money sometime in the near future. It will take a little bit of
time memorizing the various meanings for each rune, but it will definitely be worth it. Runes are a lot of fun to
work with, and for me, prove to be an extremely reliable source of divination. And so we begin.

Layouts
Reading Runes is performed much like reading Tarot, with similar layouts. Depending on the depth of
knowledge you are seeking, you can do a reading with one Rune, or ten Runes. For a One Rune Reading, simply
contemplate your inquiry, or situation, and pull one Rune out of the bag, and interpret the meaning of the rune, to
obtain insight. For a Three Rune Reading, you would pull three Runes from the bag, and lay them out in the
order you retrieved them. The same is done for any layout you choose, just lay them out in the order you took them
from the bag. Depending on the layout you choose, the runes will have different meanings in their various
positions. Below are a few layouts to help you get started.

General Information about the Spells

We have now come to the Spells portion of the book. Substitutions or replacement of the herbs and oils are not
recommended when performing any of the healing spells. Directly below, you will find a sample spell format
for you to use as a reference.

Sample Spell
Line 1 - Targeted ailment or situation
Line 2 - {medium, mode, or means of magic}
Line 3 - # 101 (spell number)
Line 4 - Ingredients: A list of the necessary components needed in the spell.
Line 1 describes what the spell is targeting, and for what you are seeking assistance with. Line 2 will briefly
describe the method in which you will be performing the magic. Line 3 simply illustrates the number of the spell in
chronological order, for easy future references. Line 4 will list your components.

Healing Spells
Again I would like to emphasize the importance of ensuring that you are digesting what you are supposed to
be. I do not recommend substitutions, especially when drinking or eating your magical potions or concoctions.
Also, check for possible allergic reactions, and drug interactions before digesting any herb or mixture. I also
encourage pregnant or nursing women to avoid taking ANY internal concoction found in this book. Most of the
spells mentioned in this book will be accompanied by a warning if so needed, but I encourage you to research the
herbs for yourself. Many of these herbs are just now being studied scientifically, and so further knowledge about
their properties, and side effects may change depending on the latest research done. The internet provides a wealth
of information when looking up data on herbs. Have fun, and happy casting!

Chapter 7
Witchcraft
Natural abilities are like natural plants; they need pruning by study.
~Francis Bacon.

109

While most of this book is based on Wicca, it contains bits of Voodoo, Ancient Egyptian Magic, Druidism,
Shamanism, and bits of historical Magic from around the world, all of which can be classified as Witchcraft. The
word Witchcraft has become a generalized term for various Pagan religions, each immensely different in their
individual practices, but having the same deity structure, religious formats, principals, and even tools. Most of
them use the same herbs, oils, candles, and styles of magic in their worship and work. In the past, most Pagan
religions were very reluctant to address the morality of negative magic, but a rise in the practice of Wicca has
made modern Paganism family friendly, while before, a small portion of the religious practices were
questionable.
While it may be true that sacrificial murders linger in Paganisms past, we mustnt forget about the millions of
people who have died at the hands of Christians during crusades, inquisitions, witch hunt hysterias, and their
animal sacrifices. If you do the math, you will find that Pagan religions breed a far a more peaceful people than
Christianity, even today.
HISTORY OF WITCHCRAFT
I was once asked by a reader for a brief history of Witchcraft, but to answer that question fully, first I had to
answer a few others. To completely understand the complex history of Witchcraft we must understand what
particular religions were first classified as Witchcraft. We must also establish what differentiates Witchcraft from
other Pagan religions.
Because of the various religious and political persecutions throughout the history of mankind, practitioners of
Witchcraft have always lain low. Only within the last fifty years have the laws began to change, more rights
allotted, and religious freedom been given in most advanced places of the world. Because of this, much of the
knowledge we seek about our ancestors is lost. We can however, study the religions we believe evolved from
various forms of Witchcraft, which are still alive today.
The word Witchcraft spoken even today, on most any continent, will incite strong feelings of fear,
uneasiness, wonder, excitement, or curiosity. The people of Haitti consider Voodoo socially acceptable, and they
practice ceremonies openly throughout their land; however, the general Voodoo population considers the practice
of Zombification a form of Witchcraft. They see zombie making as a negative act, which in any sane persons
opinion, it is. You will learn more of the process later in the chapter covering Voodoo. The fact that they associate
the concept of Witchcraft with negativity is not a new one, and is seen through out the world. In various cultures,
healers were treasured, but later condemned as practitioners of Witchcraft, in Europe and murdered, simply
because of their manipulation of plants. So, what classifies something as Witchcraft? While I wont say that
practicing negative magic defines Witchcraft, we cannot deny the negative association which haunts it even today.
Having acknowledged the taboo hanging overhead, we must look beyond the stigma and define Witchcraft in more
scientific terms. While Witchcraft is considered a Pagan religion, we must understand that not all Pagan religions
are considered Witchcraft. Native American Indians, Witches, Wiccans, Voudons, and many others are classified
as Pagan, unless you are Christian, then they are all Satanists. Its funny how the lines of distinguishing religions
are so varied, it really means nothing. They are all just looking to the heavens for hope, help and guidance, just in
different ways.
I will, however, speculate that the origins of our modern forms of Witchcraft stem from a few particular
110

cultures through history, such as Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, the Nordic and Celtic cultures of Europes past, the
Natives of North America, and the Voodoo practitioners of Africa. Each of these religions embody the essence of
what Witchcraft emits.
In each, Higher Powers are acknowledged, worshipped, idolized, imitated, and given offerings. While the
names of the Gods, Goddesses, and other deities within these religions may differ greatly, many of their attributes
and characteristics are similar. These similarities may not be as obvious as the similarities between ancient Greek
and Roman deities, but the deity hierarchy and the demands made of them by followers is the same, even in
todays society. Also in each of the religions mentioned above, you will find some form of spirit manipulation,
necromancy, or a method of contacting the deceased, which is usually only performed by a select few priests
within a group of followers. Healing through the use of medicinal herbs, oils, minerals, and other natural
substances, accompanied with the appropriate incantation or offering is also found throughout each of the religious
cultures mentioned above. The wide use of prophecy is another aspect which has been used in various Pagan
religions.
What we know today as Witchcraft embodies each of these characteristics, and even some the old names used
in Ancient times. Within the last twenty years, the world has seen a new revitalization of the Ancient Gods and
Goddesses, with a rising population of people bowing and praying to Isis, Baphomet, Set, Sekmet, Athena, Zeus,
Hera, Odin, Gwydion, Adroa, Nyambi, Evaki and many other Gods and Goddesses of our past. A study by
Swedish and German scientists, comparing the DNA of people around the world produced what could be the
greatest evidence yet that we, as modern man, first evolved in Africa and from there, spread to inhabit the rest of
the planet as recently as 50,000 years ago. Having scientific data indicating such, we can theorize that the deepest
roots of Witchcraft would lie in Africa, along with the roots of mankind itself. However, I believe the magic being
practiced today throughout the world is derived more from past cultures in areas that today are known as Norway,
Sweden, Finland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and surrounding areas.
Todays Witches practice ceremonies resembling those performed in Ancient Egypt, and they worship Higher
Powers much the way the Nordics did. Witches today also summon the aid of spirits, resembling methods used by
Native Americans, and Sumerians. They also practice healing techniques with plants, the same way Druids have.
Witches today, more so than in the past, acknowledge sixth senses, such as ESP, and phenomena like OBE. They
have also been known to curse when agitated, although not all practitioners of modern Witchcraft believe cursing
is ethical, in particular Wiccans, who forbid negative magic.
Magic today is evolution in progress, gaining in prominence, strength, and power. With every generation, we
learn more healing techniques, ceremonies, rites, spells, incantations, and methods of magic, which were formed
by a compilation of information of previous cultures and a new availability of resources. There are now people
performing spells which call for components not found in their immediate geological region. Until recent years,
and more so, since the utilization of the internet, many of these herbs or components were only used by cultures
which produced the substances locally. For example, two hundred years ago, Witches in Europe were not using a
lot, if any Copal in their religious acts, this particular resin is found primarily in Mexico, Central and South
America. Today, however, Copal can be found at most Pagan supply stores or sites, making it an important tool in
modern Witchcraft around the globe. This melting pot theory which I believe defines modern Witchcraft, seems
111

to best explain the dramatic differences seen today from Coven to Coven, such as deity names, rites, and so forth.
All covens today, however, strive to embrace the attributes which make Witchcraft what it is, and keep alive the
spirit and essence of Magic.
Wicca is a very peaceful branch of Witchcraft based partly on the writings of Gerald Gardner and Aleister
Crowley, with more recent contributions from popular practitioners such as Raymond Buckland. There is usually
a strict moral code in groups, or covens, of Wiccans, demanding that each member maintain honorable behavior.
These guidelines will differ with each coven, but most adhere to one form or another of the Wiccan Rede. There
are many variations of the Wiccan Rede, and sometimes appears in small poem style, and others in a long prose
format, but the morals behind them are the same, and prohibit the use of any harmful magic, regardless of the
motivation, or intent. The various ceremonies will differ from coven to coven as well, as they are usually written
by the leaders, similar to sermons being written by a minister. These leaders, usually titled High Priest &
Priestess, are usually the ones writing the ceremonies, spells, officiating marriages, and so forth, so information
will vary from one group of witches to another. Most of the magic performed by Wiccans, and most practitioners
of Witchcraft are healing techniques and ceremonies celebrating Life and the Earth.
Many practitioners of Witchcraft also dabble in divination through Palmistry, Tarot Cards, Rune Stones, Tea
Leaves and Crystal Balls. Some practitioners, although it is usually frowned upon by Wiccans, may practice spirit
summoning. Some seek the advise and council of the deceased, ancestral spirits, and even deities to assist them
with their problems. Other people involved in Witchcraft may not actively perform rituals, or spells, but may
simply follow and adhere to a Pagan Philosophy, which usually can be described as having a peaceful and strong
respect toward humanity, animals, and the earth.

Chapter 8
Satanism
For Satan finds some mischief still, for idle hands to do.
~Isaac Watts, Songs for Children

113

Satanist Caught...
You sit down to catch the weather on your local news, and up pops a news piece about a vicious Satanic attack
carried out on three black cats, and a small child, all of which are grotesquely mutilated and dead. Apparently the
sacrifice was performed by a sixteen year old outcast, serving under Satans authority. The news reporter informs
you that upon searching the boys home, the local police found books titled The Satanic Bible, and the Satanic
Witch, written by Anton LaVey, underneath the boys bed. They also inform you that that the boy is in police
custody, while they continue to question him about the killings....
I am not a Satanist, but neither is our little psycho kid. It really depends on the definition of Satanism, and the
contexts in which you use the term, but this kid, and most of the other Satanic Attacks are not a result of the
Prince of Darkness picking out his servants of evil, at the encouragement of Anton LaVey, but are actually the
result of serious mental and psychological disorders going untreated. Many of the severe cases usually turn out to
be schizophrenia, while milder cases stem from depression, social problems, and blatant cries for attention.
Anyone, regardless of their preferred reading material, who hacks up babies and animals is out of their mind, and
is unquestionably insane, regardless of their religious preferences.

Blame
The fact that the media, and officials blame it on philosophers such as LaVey, and groups such as Satanist is
enraging, considering they have obviously never read LaVays works. As the owner of a metaphysical supply
business, I had the opportunity to read all of his works, and eventually sell them, and will state honestly that not
one single book advocated, or even remotely suggested the killing of any creature. What we can assume really
happens in these cases, as with our sick boy above, is these mentally unstable people, because of a chemical
imbalance of the brain, or a faulty synapses, have these uncontrollable feelings of hate, anger, aggression,
frustration and these individuals act upon these feelings. Over time, as with schizophrenia the individuals usually
begin to believe they are possessed by the devil, or an unkind entity of some sort. They will experience hearing
voices, and noises as part of the psychosis, and many times will see manifestations of evil creatures they attribute
to being Satan. Understandably so, I might add. Individuals with milder cases of psychosis often maintain a strong
sense of reality, but sustain evil urges, thoughts, and desires. They will seek materials to assist them with their
evil demented plots, and turn to the Church of Satan books, available at their local bookstore.

114

115

What usually happens, obviously, are these mentally unstable people acquire the Satanic books, carry them home,
realize they are philosophical books, and not a guide to dissecting cats, throw them somewhere, and they start
making plans to abduct the neighbors black cat, for their sacrifice to Satan. They notice the neat looking
pentagram on the cover of the LaVey book, and decide to use it as an ornamental piece in their sacrifices. Bang.
The next thing you know, the headlines read Satanic Sacrifice at the encouraging efforts of the late Reverend
Anton LaVey.
It is somewhat understandable how we automatically assume these attacks are Satanic, considering the term,
Satanic is a Christian inspired word, and we live in a predominately Christian society. Christians often describe
Satan as being at the root of evil, and is defined as being the creator, inspirer, and instigator of all things sinful. We
cannot deny that these people who mutilate and kill are certainly evil. In this religious context, yes, our psychotic
friends can be defined as spawns of Satan, but in a social context, they are not Satanists, and are not motivated by
Pagan philosophers of any kind. Unless of course, they paid their dues, and passed the psychological and
intellectual requirements for The Church of Satan in California, which is one of the few legally and officially
recognized Satanic organization in the US at this time. Otherwise, these people are seriously ill, and are in need
of serous medications, and institutional supervision.

The Real Satanists

So, who are the real Satanist? The easiest, and most reliable way is to find out what kind of people Satanist
are, is by visiting their web site. Simply do a search for Satan on the internet, and you will find the Official site
for The Church of Satan. Dont be afraid to enter, they arent recruiting, and being accepted as a member entails a
strict examination of your mental, and intellectual capacities, and consideration for membership approval is
contingent upon the completion of piles of paperwork and applications.
The Church of Satan is a very peaceful organization of people, who simply live under a slightly different
philosophy, spiced up with a bit of theatrics, and costumes. Their religion is primarily based on the idea that
pleasure, and happiness should not be subdued at the expense of guilt. These people are more sexually open than
most congregations, and often participate nude in the religious ceremonies, to express their freedom to do so, and
to acknowledge the spirituality of human sexuality. While their views are not mainstream, or even somewhat
socially accepted today, they are legal, and are gaining a slowly increasing population of members. So, as you can
see, Satanist are really just people with slight sexual deviations, socially speaking, and not psychotic killing
fiends, as the media would have you believe. Below is a drawing of the late Anton LaVey, founder and former
High Priest of The Church of Satan. The drawing is by Shawna Lowman.

Chapter 9
Voodoo
No mans knowledge, here can go beyond his experience
~John Locke, Essay on Human Understanding

118

Unlike Wiccans, practitioners of Voodoo pride themselves on their spiritual communications with dead ancestors
and various deities. It is also extremely acceptable in Voodoo cultures and communities to perform acts of
cursing, while this remains taboo in most modern Pagan cultures. Another taboo practice, even for most Voodoo
followers, is the process of making zombies. Zombie making remains a problem in Haiti, where Voodoo
flourishes, and is even listed in the law books as being illegal, brought on by increasing occurrences.
Zombification is still practiced underground, yet most followers of Voodoo declare that making Zombies is not
Voodoo, instead, they call it Witchcraft, or Black Magic, claiming it is evil. While this may be true, the High
Priests or Priestess who are known for their abilities to make zombies, receive a higher degree of respect, and
certainly fear from the other followers, and they also hold higher places in the Voodoo hierarchy.
Many of the followers of Voodoo do not completely understand the mechanics and chemistry behind making
a Zombie, and therefore remain under the impression that the zombie maker possesses supernatural abilities and
knowledge. Scientists and doctors have recently studied the plants and animals used in making the Zombie
potions, and have came to the general conclusion, that the act of making zombies, is real, occurs, and the
ingredients are found easily enough in Haitian village markets. It seems that a majority of the potions created for
making Zombies contain an ingredient found in Japanese Fugu, or the puffer fish, also called the sea toad, which
can be found off coasts near Haiti as well as waters near Japan. Local fisherman catch the puffer fish in their nets,
and sell them in the markets to Voudons, or Voodoo High Priests and Priestesses, who then dry the bones and liver
of the puffer fish, roast them, powder them, and mix them with other herbs and ingredients to create a formula for
making a zombie. While there is no exact science to making a zombie, the process has been described in secrecy
to various people, and we now have a clearer understanding of the general procedure.

119

120

It seems the High Priest will administer the Zombie Potion to the intended victim, and approximately half an hour later, the victim begins to suffer from
Tetrodotoxin poisoning, exhibiting peculiar symptoms resembling death. This poisoning is a result of digesting the puffer fish parts, as they are highly
toxic. In Japan, where the puffer fish is a delicacy, there are an average of fifty Tetrodotoxin related deaths each year from Fugu. In Haiti, after the
Witch Doctors have given the victim the potion, the local medical doctors not being the most high tech, may assume from the apparent lack of vital signs
that the victim is dead. However, the victim will go into a hibernation type state where the heart slows down, and is undetectable by doctors in many
cases. The victim, then believed to be dead, will be treated as such, and a burial will take place.
After the burial, the Witch Doctor will return within eight to ten hours, and dig up the victim. It is said that many of the intended Zombies die of
suffocation after being buried, and the Priests must be quick about retrieving them from their coffins. If the victim does survive the burial, the Witch
Doctor or Priest will then administer a resurrection potion, usually consisting of household ammonia, camphor, or another pungent smelling sauce. This is
believed to revive the victim, whereupon the Priest will then bring the victim home. The Doctor will then enslave the Zombie, forcing free labor from
victim, who will more likely than not, comply with the wishes of the Priest or Witch Doctor. Scientists believe this is certainly possible, due to the lack of
oxygen to the brain while being buried alive. This disruption of vital activity may result in partial or full loss of cerebral functioning, making the victim
partially brain dead, ergo a Zombie. Apparently the practice of making Zombies in Haiti has become such a problem, that tombs under protection of lock
and key are the preferred method of managing the deceased. There have even been cemetery patrols set up to guard against body thieves in many areas
of Haiti. Most practitioners of Voodoo in the United states do not participate in the making of Zombies, but certainly reserve the right to curse, hex, and
vex, along with healing. It would definitely have to be said, as far as Religions are concerned in the United States, Voodoo remains to be one of the more
mysterious, and colorful of them, filled with secrets of doing good and evil.

POTENT Love Spell for Women

{Voodoo Magic}
# 30
Ingredients: Menstrual Blood, & Uncooked Cake or Pie
Perhaps the most famous, and certainly one of the most controversial Love Spells, this is a very old ritual with
its origins in the Voodoo culture. This is a very simple spell, which has been proven effective time and time again,
yet it is not for everyone, as it is a very personal, and powerful spell. I urge every woman who uses this spell to
use great caution, and consideration before proceeding, as you may end up with someone you really didnt want
after all. You will not be able to stop or reverse this spell easily. You will certainly have to do a binding on the
person you performed the spell on to remove the spell, or you may have difficulty getting rid of the person you
targeted. Having said that, I will now proceed to the spell at hand.
This spell can be performed by women to entice a man to love her. The spell requires you to obtain a small
amount of your own Menstrual Blood. Easier said than done huh? I will not go into the specifics on how this
should be done, as I am sure you are very resourceful, and will come up with your own method of extraction.
Once the fresh menstrual blood has been obtained, you should insert it into the batter, or filling of a cake or pie.
Bake your desert as usual, and serve a piece, or slice to the person you want to love you.

157

Stop Spousal Abuse

{Aromatherapy & Folk Magic}
# 31
Ingredients: Lavender Oil
If a woman finds herself in a physically abusive relationship, I strongly advocate for the woman to leave the
abuser. Of course, some believe you should give a person a second chance. If you desperately want the
relationship to work, wear Lavender Oil as perfume when you are around the abusive person. This may calm his
spirits and ease his nerves, and perhaps lead to more peaceful relations between the two of you. If for any reason,
the spell isnt effective the first time you try it, do not try this spell again. Try a more potent Binding Spell, and
then leave the Son of a Bitch. Dont let yourself get beat up more than once by someone who loves you. You
will surely find someone who loves more, and abuses less.
This spell also applies to the Mental Abuser as well. If you are in a situation where the man you love is
verbally, or mentally abusive towards you, you can wear Lavender Oil to ease his abuse as well; however, the
same principals apply for these types of abusers. Try this spell once, if it doesnt seem to help your situation,
perform a binding spell, and get away from this person.

158

toddlers, or children, and should also be avoided by pregnant or nursing women. Valerian Root can also be
purchased in pill or capsule form at health or department stores as well. If you find the taste of the tea intolerable,
I would recommend using the capsules, as the taste is not exactly pleasant. My father, upon smelling a batch of tea
I was preparing for him, asked if I were boiling old sweaty socks! Despite its smell, it is very powerful, and as
stated before in a previous spell for muscular aches, Valerian was originally the key ingredient used in making
Valium.

doll should be made from socks, or pieces of clothing or a cloth from the ill person, as long as it is associated

will be. See the previous chapter titled Tools for instructions on creating a basic doll. You can highlight
particular areas of the ailment and illness by stitching marks where the illnesses lie. For the doll to be effective,
the key is to concentrate on healing the sick person while creating the doll itself. Once the doll is completed, it
should always be kept in a safe place, where it will not be seen, such as under the bed, or in a closet. You do not
have to place the doll close to the ill person for the doll to be effective, nor do they have to know that the doll has

that smelling Lavender everyday will make you live longer.

Chapter 19
Love, Sex & Lust Spells
Why is Love such a sorrowful thing, This I never could understand,
Pain and passion are linked together, Ever I find them hand in hand.
~Laurence Hope, The Complete Love Lyrics

220

Capture a Lover
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 82
Ingredients: 1 Apple
A very old spell, still popular even today, involves only and apple. To increase your romantic involvement
with a certain person, cut an apple in half and offer one of the halves to your potential lover. I have also seen
another variation of this spell describing someone giving half of their apple to their already lover, to keep them as
their mate. In both spells, it is said that if the person declines the apple piece, or accepts but doesnt eat the apple
half, your efforts may be unsuccessful, but keep trying.

221

Increase Sexual Desires

{Magical Infusion}
Spell # 83
Ingredients: Damiana
For sexual motivations and stimulation, you can prepare yourself (or your date) a warm cup of Damiana Tea.
To produce this infusion, you will need to boil 1 cup of water, and remove from the heat. Insert 1 teaspoon of
dried Damiana, cover the infusion, and let it sit for about 10 minutes, then strain the herbs off the tea. You can add
honey, or sugar to sweeten the tea to your liking.

222

Bring Wedding & Marital Luck

{Folk Magic}
Spell # 84
Ingredients: Garlic Clove
`On the happiest day of a brides life, to encourage a successful marriage, it has been said that the bride is to
carry with her, during the ceremony, and through out her wedding day, a whole bulb of garlic. Keep in mind, that if
the cloves are separated, or peeled, you may smell the bride coming, so I would suggest using a whole, undamaged
bulb. One should be able to discreetly place a small bulb within the wedding dress, bra, or in the brides bouquet.

223

Return a Lover
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 85
Ingredients: Damiana & Red Wine
Once again we see Damiana being used to help in our matter of the heart. To create a potion which will
encourage a lover to return to you, you can try the following infusion. Place three teaspoons of Damiana in a glass
of red wine. Let this mixture soak for 6 hours, then sprinkle this mixture around the outside of the doors, and
windows of your house. You must repeat this procedure every day for one week.

224

Calm a Lovers Quarrel

{Folk Magic & Aromatherapy}
Spell # 86
Ingredients: Valerian Root
If you need to end a marital spat, or to end a fight with your partner, you should bring Valerian Root into the
room where the argument is occurring. You may want to make a few sachets and place them throughout the room or
house. You can also boil water and place a teaspoon or two of dried Valerian Root in the pot, and let it stew for a
little while, although this will produce a stronger, and more unpleasant smell in the house.

225

Attract Love
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 87
Ingredients: Dried Lavender, & 1 small piece of cloth
An old method of attracting love is to carry a Lavender sachet. To prepare a Lavender Sachet, place a few
teaspoons of dried Lavender in the center of a small piece of Violet colored cloth. Tie the herbs up inside the
cloth with a piece of string, and carry this with you wherever you go to attract love.

226

Meaningful Love
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 88

If you seek to find a meaningful love, you should carry with you a Jasmine sachet made by tying dried Jasmine
Flowers inside a small piece of yellow cloth.

227

said to entice the lover to return.

candles pool of melted wax.

229

Attract Love
{Magical Bath}
Spell # 91
Ingredients: Dried Chamomile
For a magical bath to help you attract love, prepare yourself a soothing Chamomile bath to entice possible
suitors your way. You will need to boil approximately 2 cups of water, then add about eight teaspoons of dried
Chamomile into the water, and remove from heat. Cover the pot, and let sit for about 10 minutes. Strain the herbs,
and pour the infusion into your bath water. Soak in the bath for approximately 15 minutes.

230

{Folk Magic}

Another Sachet one can carry around with them to help encourage the attraction of a lover, involves the toting

{Folk Magic}
Spell # 94

Another love related spell, calling for Basil, is said to end a lovers spat. To end the quarrel, try and persuade

encourage your mate to be faithful. Basil Powder can be made by crushing dried Basil leaves.

234

Promote Marriage
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 96
Ingredients: Rose Petal Sachet
This spell is to be used when you want to encourage marriage. You may want that much desired proposal, or
perhaps you need your fianc to commit to a specific date, or maybe he or she is just procrastinating; regardless,
you may find assistance with this spell, if you are not having the wedding soon enough to your liking. Simply
gather together a small bunch of rose petals, and lay them in the center of a small piece of cloth. Tie up the petals
in the center of the cloth using a string, and carry this sachet with you in your pocket, purse or keep it close to you
throughout the day. You may want to sleep with the petals underneath your pillow, if you feel this may be
necessary. This spell can also be used in times of trouble before a wedding to ease wedding jitters, and will help
dissipate any second thoughts about the marriage. You will probably want to use dried Rose petals for this spell,
because fresh petals may stain your sheets and pillows, and begin to decompose quickly.

235

Promote Love
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 97
Ingredients: Dried Rosemary & Piece of Cloth
Another method you may try to increase your chances at love is to make a Rosemary sachet by tying up a small
cluster of dried Rosemary in a piece of cloth. Tie this together with string and keep it close to you at all times.

236

the herbs.

239

Prophetic Dreaming
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 100
Ingredients: Dried Mugwort
If you want to increase the prophetic power of your dreams, you can place Mugwort in your pillow. Again,
this could be put in a sachet before placing the herbs in or under your pillow to reduce the clean up of scattered
herbs.

240

Divination
{Folk Magic}
# 101
Ingredients: Dried Mugwort
Another very effective means of obtaining a boost to your prophetic abilities is to prepare a Mugwort
infusion. To prepare this tea you will need to boil approximately 1 cup of water, and remove from the heat. Then
add about two teaspoons of dried Mugwort into the water. Cover the tea, and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Strain
the tea, and discard the used herbs. Sweeten your tea with honey or sugar to your preference. You should drink
this tea at least one hour before you perform any form of divination such as working with Runes, Tarot, Tea
Leaves, or your own preferred method.

241

Prophetic Dreams

I recommend using high quality and pure incense when using this spell to ensure you receive the optimal results.

250

Astral Projection
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 110
Ingredients: Mugwort Tea
To help with your Astral Travel plans, you can prepare yourself a Mugwort infusion to be drunk before your
intended take off. Most people attempt their Astral Travel before going to sleep while lying in bed, or during
meditation during a relaxed state. To prepare this tea you will need to boil approximately 1 cup of water, and
remove from the heat. Then add about two teaspoons of dried Mugwort into the water. Cover the tea, and let it sit
for about 15 minutes. Strain the tea, and discard the used herbs. Sweeten your tea with honey or sugar to your
preference. You should drink this tea before you attempt your astral traveling. Do not use if pregnant or nursing.

251

Astral Projection
{Magical Sachet}
Spell # 111
Ingredients: Dried Mugwort
Mugwort again is used to help aid in our astral travel. This particular spell calls for placing a Mugwort sachet

254

Chapter 22
A Closer Look at Out of Body Experiences
Each man believes only his experience
~Empedocles

255

I was sleeping very deeply when something caught my attention. I sat up in bed and looked around. My mother
knocked on the door, opened it, looked passed me, and told me to wake up...time for school. I tried to tell her I
was already awake, but I couldnt move my lips. My arms werent working either. I tried to scream but pain shot
though my neck instead, and not even a tiny peep came out. I couldnt move anything except the top part of my
torso, and not all of it. My mother told me to wake up again, and it scared me that she looked passed me, and now I
couldnt talk. She shut the door. I tried to call her again, but nothing came out. I anxiously looked around me,
since that was all I could do, and to my horror, I could see the top portion of my body lying in the bed. I could
look behind me, and see my face, my neck, and my chest lying on the bed. It was as if my physical body was lying
in the bed, with my spiritual body half rising out of it. Indescribable panic shot through me as I realized I must be
dead, or at the least dying. At that instant, I fell back with a blinding hard thud. I knew at once that I was not dead,
and I was back, in one piece, lying in my bed, and that everything was back to normal. But it wasnt. At first, I
thought I still couldnt move because of the difficulty I was having. Every movement was heavily strained, but I
could move, and was some what relieved. I looked around and raised my head, with great effort. My body felt
like it weighed two tons. I sat up, to access the situation, and to try and regain my sense of reality, and it seemed,
not one single muscle in my body was immune from this heavy dull pain I felt all over. My mother walked by my
room, noticed I was awake, and went about her way. I didnt mention anything to her about what had happened. I
dont think I could have put it in words at the time, had I tried. I was still in a widely confused state, and decided
to keep this to myself, for fear of ending up in a mental institution.
I wasnt sure if I had died, but I was confident that I had not been dreaming, and I knew that something very
unusual had just happened. I decided to try and put the episode behind me, and get ready for school, a task not
easily done with the complete feeling of exhaustion I felt. I had never before, nor have I since, ever felt more
exhausted than I felt on that morning.
I went to school, thought on the matter for a few hours, and decided I needed some assistance figuring this thing
out. While my Dad drove my friend and me home from school that evening, I related the events of that morning to
my friend Carrissa. She apparently had no insight for me, and we sat dumbstruck, if she even believed me at all.
When we came to the conclusion that there was no explanation, my Dad says, OBE, Out of Body Experience.
I was sitting in the back seat of our van, and I looked at him in the rear view mirror. He looked at me and said,
You had an out of Body Experience, then he smiled.
I asked him promptly what that was, and he said, Its when you leave your body.
Oh, I replied. He then said, I have a couple of books you will need to read.
My friend Carrissa and I sat back, confident and relieved that I was not crazy, and this was something that
happened to people occasionally, and it even had a name. From that day on, OBE became another of my interests,
although I have not consciously experienced the phenomena again since that particular morning, I find OBE cases
fascinating.
Many people claim to have almost perfected the art of OBE and when in this state, have the ability to move
around, completely apart from their physical bodies. There seem to be varying degrees of abilities from one
person to another. Some seem able to travel about, to any place they desire, in a matter of seconds; while others
seem connected to their bodies by a spiritual cord of some sort. Most people who experience an OBE event
maintain that they are coherent during the experience, and are able to relate events and facts about their travels.
For example, upon leaving your physical body and flying your ethereal body to Paris, you could count the cars in

256

a particular parking lot, return to your physical body, and relate the number to someone. This information could
then be verified by calling a person in Paris to confirm the accuracy of the information.
Many such experiments have taken place, most involving the hiding of an object or picture where it cannot be
viewed from the ground, and having the subject travel out of their body to view it, and relate what it is, and
describe it fully. Successful results from these types of experiments led the United States, and the Soviet Union
governments to perform their own experiments and programs to further study, and utilize the OBE phenomena. The
US Government recognized the possibilities OBEs would provide for military intelligence efforts, and began,
what is now known as Operation Stargate, which performed studies into remote viewing, a government term for
OBE.
The critics of OBE are numerous, and many explanations have risen to dismiss the idea that these experiences
are real, and occurred as they were described. They contend that OBE experiences are caused by the brains
response to an interference in the normal operation of the sensory inputs. Basically, they believe OBEs are brain
induced hallucinations, and never really occur. Even though I do not claim to know what causes OBE, or what
makes it possible, I do find great fault with this particular theory, as it does not apply to my personal experience.
While in my state, I could see the clock in my bedroom, and noted the time. When I came out of my OBE, the time
displayed on my clock was consistent with the time I witnessed during my OBE. If you recall, while in my state,
my mother walked into my room. When I came out of my state, and saw her next, she was wearing the same
clothes I saw her wearing during my OBE. What I experienced was not a hallucination, yet even still, I do not
know what actually happened, and can only relate what I experienced for myself, but will remain confident that it
was very real.

257

Chapter 23

If the Robin sings on the barn, the weather will be warm.
~Superstitious Proverb

258

260

Lost Luggage
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 116
Ingredients: Comfrey Leaves
Again, we have comfrey helping us out when we are traveling. Nothing puts a damper on a trip faster than
when your luggage is lost or stolen. To help prevent this from happening, you can place a small sachet of
Comfrey in your suitcases or bags. These can even be placed in your wallet or purse for protection as well. I
would highly recommend blending the dried comfrey leaves with one or two aromatic and colorful herbs such as
Lavender, Jasmine, or Sandalwood. I would then recommend wrapping the herbs in lace, and tying them up with a
ribbon. While this will certainly look nice, and make your clothes smell even better, it serves another purpose.
Comfrey is a dark green color, and is usually sold in bits of cut and crushed stems and leaves. To be blunt, it may
resemble marijuana. So, if you do not want to be the subject of an airport search and seizure event... I would
recommend that you make your sachet look as much like a potpourri pouch as you can.

261

Lightning Strikes
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 117

When hiking or walking in the wilderness, and you have reason to believe there may be lightening out and

infection.

270

Money
{Folk Magic}
Spell # 125
Ingredients: Dried Patchouli, Vase, Coins
One of my favorite and reliable spells for receiving extra money involves the aromatic herb patchouli. Round
up a small vase, and enough dried patchouli to fill the vase up if poured inside. This will vary of course,
depending on the size of our vase. Gather together a few dollars and coins, and place inside the vase, and then
pour the herbs on top of them, almost filling up the vase. Place the vase somewhere in the house where it will be
seen, but not disturbed. I have used decorative silk flowers to disguise mine, and place on the mantle. When you
find money in the house while cleaning or hunting for the remote, place the money in the vase, and you will soon
have more money coming your way. Keep placing small bits of change into the vase to keep the money coming into
your home, and to keep the spell active.

chamomile. Your infusion is now ready to use.

of scrap material and tying up the basil in the middle. Tie this up with a string and carry with you in your pocket,
purse, or in your car.

276

carry extra almonds for snacking!

339

To Get Rid of Someone

{Voodoo Magic}
Spell # 184
Ingredients: Black Salt
Black Salt deserves a chapter all to itself, as its uses are so numerous. The main attribute for which Black Salt
is used most, is for its ability for making people go away. To my knowledge, no one has ever died at the hands of
black salt, but it certainly has brought about sudden moves, vacations, jail sentences, and extended leaves of
absences. Originally, the intent of Black Salt was to be sprinkled on someones doorstep, and this was supposed
to make the person or people feel compelled to move. They were supposed to be overcome with feelings of
unease, and a need to be somewhere else. However, as an occult business owner, I can tell you, people get real
creative with Black Salt. A friend of mine, Kevin, sprinkled a small bit of black salt in his roommates shoes, in
the hopes of making him move out. It turned out, the morning after he did this, his roommate left, and Kevin did not
see him again for about a year, only after the guy threw away the pair of shoes. Ive had many other customers
relate their creative ways of using black salt, and their positive results, so apparently, the particulars are not
important, so long as the black salt is there, and your intent is strong. Whether you put it in their shoes, on their
doorstep, in their car, or at their lovers doorstep, Black Salt will help you out. Just dont put it in food, or you
might end up in jail.

Chapter 33
A Closer Look at Spirits
Mid pleasures and palaces through we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, theres no place like home.
~John Howard Payne

350

It is of common belief that the dead sometimes go back to the place they felt connected to in life. In fact, more
people than not believe in ghosts today, making their acceptance almost mainstream. However, the skeptics
remain skeptical, until they are visited by a haunting figure themselves, which usually happens sooner or later. It
is rare to come across the adamant individual who insists that such things just simply do not exist, under any
circumstances. We have all been gathered around when stories of ghosts have become the topic of conversation,
and creepy tales of haunted apartments, malevolent manors, and chilling tales arise. Its almost comforting to hear
others share their own disturbing encounters, in the hopes of convincing a present skeptic to reevaluate his or her
views. This is when you get to hear the most interesting and colorful tales, and remains to be more fun than
Monopoly will ever be!
I am fortunate to have experienced a ghostly encounter early in life, so I never really spent a lot of time
speculating on whether such things were possible. What I do ponder, are the motives and abilities such spirits may
have when they do things. Why do spirits perform physical acts, such as producing noises, moving objects, or
even harming people? This we will probably never fully understand, as the motives of one ghost, may not
necessarily be the same motives of another ghost.
The motives of the ghost which visited me, I still do not understand, but I will tell you of my experience and let
you ponder with me. My husband, James, was running errands in town, and I decided to take a relaxing quiet bath.
About five minutes after slipping into the tub, I hear a fairly loud knock at the door. I figured my husband had
returned, and not had his house key, so I grabbed a towel, and ran to let him in. When I got to the door, I looked
out to make sure it was him before I opened the door, and to my surprise, there was no one outside the door. I
returned to the bath and began rinsing the dried soap off of me, when there was another knock on the door. I
grabbed the towel and went to the door, looked out, and again, no one was there. At this point, I was getting pretty
angry and was attributing the knocks to malicious neighborhood children. I went back to the bathroom, grabbed
my robe, and went to stand by the door. I was going to catch them little kids and give them a piece of my mind.
So, I stood wet, shivering, and sticky from dried soap, before my front door, waiting for those little kids to come
back. With my hands on the small curtain which adorned the window in the top half of the door, I waited not more
than two minutes before I heard the loud knock on the door, so forceful in fact, that the door shook slightly. I
whipped the curtain back, assured that I would see someone out there, but I didnt. Even then, it didnt cross my
mind that something supernatural may be going on. I slung the door open, and ran out into my yard, fully expecting
to see a child running off, but I didnt. I was a little puzzled at this point, but figured I had some really quick kids
on my block.
I returned to the house, got back into the bath, and had no intention of answering the door, or letting those kids
drive me mad, and proceeded to rinse off, and get clothed. While I was drying off and getting dressed, I heard a
very loud knock on the bathroom door, and the doorknob then began to juggle. I called out to my husband to give
me just a second, that I was almost done. I slipped on my shoes, and opened the door, and my husband James was
no where to be found, and had obviously not retuned from his errands. I was absolutely dumbfounded. The front
door was locked, and no one was in the house except for me.
In the same house a few months later, my husband, his daughter Keather, who was seven at the time, and I
returned home from a day of shopping, and was met with a curious surprise. We brought in our bags, and Keather
351

went to carry her things to her room when she became irritated, and expressed some serious annoyance when she
walked in her room. We followed her to her room to investigate the root of her frustrations. There on the floor,
two of her posters she had tacked on her walls. She demanded to know why we had so meanly taken down her
posters, and we explained to her that we didnt. We couldnt explain to her how it happened, but were amazed
when upon closer inspection, we noticed that the two posters were lying face up with four tacks each lying in the
center of the posters. Originally, the posters were attached to the wall with one tack in each corner, amounting to
four tacks in each poster. It looked as if someone had came in, took the four tacks out of the corners of the
posters, took the posters down, laid them face up on the floor, and then laid four tacks in the middle of each
poster. It was very weird and eerie, but was not our last ghostly visitation.
The last time I encountered our invisible friend, he was not so invisible. I was sleeping soundly when I heard
someone enter the room. I rolled over and rose up to greet my husband, but it was not him. In the doorway of my
bedroom, close to the foot of my bed stood this foggy impression of a man which I could see through. He was a
slightly heavy man of medium build; I guess what one might describe as stocky. He was wearing a plaid shirt of a
grayish, dark color with overalls, and resembled what a traditional Lumberjack might look like. I could not see
his face, but could see an outline of his hair. He stood there looking right at me, or through me, Im not sure which,
and then he turned his head slightly, looking away, and vanished. By this time, I had already released a few cries
of alarm, so my husband rushed in immediately afterwards. This was the only time we were ever visited by the
apparition, but small things continued to happen until we moved a few years later. We were lucky that our ghost
was not overtly evil in nature, and never performed any act I felt was dangerous, although, stepping on tacks in the
floor would not have been pleasant.
While some ghosts seem to linger around doing peculiar little things which only baffle us, other spirits seem to
serve a clear immediate purpose. One strange, but true account involving a ghostly apparition indicates that spirits
may indeed have intent, with solid motive for their actions. A woman, traveling with her three year old son,
looses control of her vehicle, and the car tumbles down the side of the hill beside the road, making the car unseen
by passing traffic. The woman dies upon impact from head injuries; however, her three year old son survives the
crash. Unfortunately, there are no witnesses to the crash, and no one knows to assist the young child. Three days
go by while friends and family of the woman and child become concerned, and increasingly worried. A friend of
the family, going home from work that evening, drives along the road near where the crash occurred and sees a
most horrible sight. She stated that while driving, she saw her friends naked body, lying lifeless on the side of the
road. She was so shaken; she did not stop, but immediately went to a phone and called the police and told them
where she saw the body. The police went to the scene and did not see a naked body beside the road, but did find a
car at the bottom of the hill directly below where the body was supposed to be. When they arrive at the mangled
vehicle, they find a malnourished, starving three year old child, keeping watch over his dead mother who is still
strapped into the drivers seat, fully clothed. Authorities and doctors declared the child would have died within
the next few hours if he had been found. It could be said that the apparition seen was not really a ghost, but a
psychic vision of sorts, manifested by the friend of the family to find the missing people. Or, it could be just as it
seems, and was the ghostly desperation of a loving mother trying to save her son. Either way, this is an incredible
account of the supernatural powers we harness both in life and death.

Chapter 36
Manipulation
The worst men give oft the best advise.
~Phillip James Bailey, Festus

364

Manipulation, not frequently advertised as a tool in Witchcraft, happens to be one of the more effective methods of
magic. Pagan philosopher, Anton LaVey, wrote what he felt were guidelines for women to use when manipulating
men, in his book The Satanic Witch. While the name may sound evil, and even a little intimidating, the book is
filled with techniques one can use to encourage positive results when interacting with other people. LaVey took
his studies of human interactions and made them applicable to women, but these approaches are certainly
applicable to men as well.

Manipulating a Particular Person

Learning how to manipulate people may be a little more involved than throwing a sachet together, but your
results will be better. Manipulation, has been called an art form by some and deceit by others, but remains a
powerful form of magic nonetheless. There are innumerable ways of beguiling another to give you what you are
wanting; whether it is material belongings, intimate relations, or just better treatment. To manipulate one person
effectively, you will need to find out what that person enjoys, what type of people he/she associates with, simply
study that persons likes and dislikes, get a general feel for that persons personality, and work that knowledge into
your meetings with the person. Information you may try obtaining could be the preferred hair styles or colors, types
of clothes, preferred activities, general color preferences, hobbies, and musical preferences. These are not by any
means the only things you should search for, but they will help get you started in learning all you can about that
person. The basic principal behind this method is to project you in a highly positive light in the eyes of the person
you are manipulating, and will differ drastically from one person to another. You will want the person you are
manipulating to see you as a person he or she would like to spend time with. Avoid doing things the person finds
distasteful, and try and be the perfect person, in the eyes of the other person. This does not necessarily mean in
the bedroom, and is effective in many daily encounters with various people through out your day. Maybe you just
want the bag boy to be extra careful with your groceries?

Manipulation of the General Public

Manipulating a certain person into giving you what you want will take a little study and practice, but you can
do small things everyday to make your experiences with the general public better. This is a generalized form of
mass manipulation, and can be applied to most everybody you will meet in a given day. These techniques will
help you in job interviews, dates, or any important appointment where you would like to leave a good impression.
The first key to manipulating the general public is to appear as pleasant as you can. You should project a positive
image that people will enjoy encountering, and will want to encounter. The second key, when you want to be taken
seriously when communicating with people, you should look them in the eye for extended periods of time, when
appropriate. You should always look them in the eyes when you are speaking to them, and when you are listening
to the other person speak. This conveys your commitment to the conversation, and interest in what that person is
saying. The third key is attitude, and yours should always be calm and nonviolent, unless you want to manipulate
yourself into jail. There are many traits of an attitude you can exhibit during a conversation, such as confidence,
shyness, empathy, sympathy, tolerance, understanding, expertise, ignorance, patience, impatience, happiness,
irritation, anger, hatred, enjoyment, and every other emotion known to man. Your attitude is an important factor
determining how people will perceive you, and you should act accordingly. You have heard the saying dress for

365

success, and this is certainly applicable to our discussion, as the fourth key to manipulating people is your
clothing. If you want to be treated respectfully, then you must, at the least, appear as though you deserve it. This
is exhibited in the clothes you wear, and your general attitude. You can decide if people will judge you as
sophisticated, lazy, well kept, clean cut, trashy, or even intelligent, just by adorning yourself with clothes which
will project the wanted image. These techniques will increase the positive encounters you have with people on a
day to day basis.
If you think you may have trouble putting together the proper attire which you are wanting to project, there are
ways to learn. Simply gather together magazines with lots of pictures of people inside, and look through them.
Look through the pictures of the people, making a mental note on each one, or even mark it on the pictures, on how
you perceive that person at first glance, based on the clothing. This will help you familiarize yourself with the
various aspects you can portray, and provides an interesting insight into human perception.

Sexual Manipulation
The founder of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, who I mentioned briefly before, teaches manipulation
primarily as a tool for sorceresses to use for gain of various kinds, including, and more specifically, sex. There
are really two forms of sexual manipulation; the first being, manipulating someone into having sexual relations
with you, and the second form, using sex as a tool for manipulating someone into giving you what you desire. Be
very careful when manipulating someone for, or with sex, as there is a fine line between manipulation and
prostitution when used in this regard, whether there is money exchanged or not.

Healthy Manipulation
Healthy manipulation is the day to day things we do to project a positive image of ourselves for the general
public to see, with no other intent. These techniques described are all normal activities which we all do, almost
naturally. But you may wonder why a person would want to manipulate someone in particular, with ulterior
motives being other than the normal projecting of a positive appearance. Well, the list of reasons is endless and
filled with negative inspirations mind you. But there are extreme cases where manipulation is needed, and can be
a very effective means of getting what you want.
While I personally am not a Satanist, Mr. LaVay's writings inspired me to take control of a bad situation I
found myself in a few years back. I am an avid gardener, and spend much of my time in my yard. As a result, I
won myself a neighborhood stalker. This man was a retired survivalist nut, who rode the neighborhood, and the
town in his Rascal Scooter (weather permitting of course), barring binoculars and a big crush on me. While he
didnt really scare me, he certainly irked and bothered the hell out of me. For example, one morning, about an
hour upon waking my phone rang, and this man was on the other end. Please keep in mind, I had not gone outside
my house that morning until after he called. He informed me that he noticed I had woke up, and wanted to let me
know that I should dress lightly because it was going to be very hot that day. He explained to me that the blue jeans
I was wearing might be too warm, that I should wear shorts. I thanked him for his concern, and advise, and
politely put down the phone. Hmm. Problem. By nine Oclock that evening, my day long project of placing tin
foil, and new curtains on my windows was completed. I knew where he lived, and knew he had to have been out
and about in his scooter with his binoculars, and the police were notified. They politely informed me that since no
harm had come to me, nothing could be done at that time; but if he stabs me or shoots me, and I survive, I could
366

then file charges. Hmm. Second problem, no official help, compiled with my husband being out of town on work. I
was alone with a problem to solve. I kept thinking about what he said, and it hit me. The weather had been really
hot, as I lived in East Texas at the time, and 100 F. degrees in the summer is not uncommon. This man had
apparently been watching me mow my yard and tinker in the garden everyday, while I was wearing a minimal
amount of clothing, usually a pair of shorts and a muscle or spaghetti strap type summer shirt. Occasionally, when
he would pop over, which was not infrequent at times, he had mentioned things about me that he liked in
particular. I used this information to my advantage, and started appearing exactly the opposite of how this nut
wanted me to look. After a few weeks of my change in clothes, and a serious change of attitude, this man was no
longer a problem. He eventually lost interest and stopped his daily harassments, because our encounters were no
longer pleasant for him. I was able to maintain my regular lifestyle within a few months, but I did keep the
windows completely covered. Fortunately, the man harassing me was not life threatening, but many stalkers are,
and todays laws are starting to reflect this. Should you encounter a stalker, you should seek assistance with the
police first, and then use the manipulation techniques in conjunction with the local authorities efforts if necessary.
