EE 338 DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

SPRING SEMESTER 2015-2016 - APPLICATION ASSIGNMENT

This assignment will be carried out by the students of the class in teams of size at most
four. The aim of this assignment, is to explore one application using the ideas of Digital
Signal Processing and to present the concept and realization in as complete a form, as
the team finds feasible, with the time and resources available to the team members.
The assignment is as follows:
A major worldwide company/ organization, involved in the manufacture of Digital Signal
Processors, has announced that it will support groups of people who build applications
around their Digital Signal Processor, and present a reasonably convincing product plan.
Your team is interested in availing of this opportunity and will make a product
presentation in this regard for consideration for support.
The considerations that will be used to evaluate the product or application are:
(i)
The technical feasibility of what is proposed
(ii)
The completeness of the plan and product design
(iii) The manner in which it is explained in the report and presented
(iv)
The competence of the team as far as comprehension of the design, the concepts
involved and realization are concerned.
For ideas on what products can be conceived and built, information on previous
assignments done, will be made available. There is a link there, to the application ideas
presented by students of the previous years. You are welcome to use those ideas but you
must give a reference to the report(s) which you have used in your submission. A
reference/ acknowledgement must be given to all literature/ sources consulted. This is a
part of ethical practices in the intellectual domain.
The deliverables in this assignment are as follows.
Teams to be finalized on or before 7 March 2016 and the team must concurrently submit
a brief abstract of about one page. Each such team must upload their team number, team
composition and abstract as a separate post on the Application Assignment Forum on
the Moodle webpage of the course. Each team will give itself the next team number in
sequence. For example, if the previous team which posted has the Team Number 5, the
current team will take the Team Number 6. There is some advantage in submitting earlier
to the extent that if two abstracts are very similar, the abstract submitted first will be
permitted, and the later ones will have to be modified at least a little, to introduce some
variety. All posts from a given team must be in reply mode to its original post.
A final presentation from the team will be arranged in an event in the later part of March
2016. Total marks for the application assignment = 30 marks (15 percent weight)
