Basic Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Note:
i) Answer five questions. In each question part A, B, C is compulsory and D part
has Internal Choice.
ii) All parts of each question are to be attempted at one place.
iii) All questions carry equal marks, out of which part A and B (Max. 50 words)
carry 2 marks, part C (Max. 100 words)
carry 3 marks, part D (Max. 400 words)
carry 7 marks.
iv) Except numerical, Derivation, Design and Drawing etc.
UNIT I
1. a. Draw the V-I characteristics of practical and ideal voltage and current
sources.
b. State and Explain superposition and Thevenins Theorem with the help of
an Example.
c. Establish the relationship between phase and line voltages in a 3-phase
star connected circuit.
d.. Determine the current IL in the circuit using Thevenins theorem.

OR
Find the total current through R3 in the given circuit.

UNIT II
2. Answer the following with reference to single phase transformer:
a. Justify with reason the LV winding always kept near to the core. And iron loss is
constant.
b. Draw pharos diagram of single phase transformer for different load?

c. Derive the expression for emf equation in transformer.


d. A single phase transformer has 400 primary and 1000 secondary turns. The
net cross sectional area of the core
is 60 cm2. If the primary winding
connected to 50 HZ supply at 500 V , Calculate
(i) the peak value of the flux density in the core, (ii) the voltage induced in the
secondary winding.

Explain open and short circuit test of a single phase transformer and give their
significance.
