collision with Target B.

EXPLANATION

: As per Rule no 19 :- If risk of collision

exist ; vessel should avoid


a)Alteration of course to port for a vessel forward of the beam,
other than for a vessel being overtaken.
b)An alteration of course towards a vessel abeam or abaft the
beam.

This action is more effective rather than reducing the speed,


because the situation will clear more fast by this action .If we reduce the
speed ,then the speed has to be reduced upto a very large extent, which
may not be so easy practically & also by reducing speed we have to
reduce so much that the target B shall pass atleast with a CPA of 1.0 NM
ahead of us,which will make the situation worse.

ACTION : For Target A

Alteration of port shall be avoided Rule


does not allow Possible reduced Speed but target will cross the bow with
CpA 1 nm. ( Avoided)
Alteration of course to stbd will allow target A to pass PORT of own
vessel. (Best)

For Target B both the action is suitable (risk of collision does not
exist).
Action taken alter to stbd will increase the CPA of Target
B.

Alter Course To STBD atleast 17 degrees
