1.

TERMINOLOGY
For the purposes of this document, the following apply:
Drive letter P:\ is mapped to \\Tekpdc\cad\ on the network file server.
Designer refers to designers, draughtsmen, operators or engineers using CAD.

2.

COMPANY DRAWING STANDARD

2.1.

CAD File Name

To aid location on the network, the CAD file name shall be printed outside the border of the drawing
(preferably using Attribute text). The CAD file name shall contain the following information:
Drawing Size,
Path, (Optional) File Name, (for file naming conventions see project numbering procedure or
ICP/08.14)
Units,
Plot Scale,
(E.g.: A1 CAD FILE- \\TEKPDC\CAD\ADMIN\BORDERS\T_A1 M 1:1)
Note: Company standard drawing borders contain an attribute for the CAD file name.

Note: With the exception on Piping Isometrics, the use of A2 size drawings should be avoided where
possible.
2.3.

Drawing Units
Units shall have 0 set to East 3, oclock and angles measured anti-clockwise.

2.4.

Layers
AutoCAD drawings should be constructed using separate layers.
It is recommended that AutoCAD drawing layers have a short descriptive name e.g.: DIM,
TEXT, OUTLINE.
The designer shall determine the layering philosophy for the drawing, whether to have separate
layers for every linetype and/or colour combination, or a layer for each service or discipline. The
aim is to have the minimum number of layers, while still being able to edit the drawing
efficiently.
The layer names should be typical for a type of drawing, i.e., all P&IDs should have consistent
layer names.

2.5.

Line Types, and Line Type Scales

Line types should generally be constructed and determined by layer.
Conventional line types from the ACAD.LIN file shall be used.
The line type scale shall be 10 x drawing scale.

2.6.

Line Thickness
The printed width of lines up to 1mm shall be constructed and determined by colour, with colours
generally determined by layer. Lines wider than 1mm shall be created using polylines.

Note 1. There are Plot Style Tables (\\Tekpdc\Cad\Admin\Acadfiles\R2000i\Plot Styles) for

Company standard line thicknesses e.g.: A3-TEK.ctb, A1-TEK.ctb. There are also Plot
Style Tables for printing CAD files originating from outside the Company.
Note 2. A1 & A0 drawings should not be printed at A4 size, but if required can be photocopied from
A3 to A4.
2.7.

Text
2.7.1.

Style and Font

Text on drawings shall be uppercase (CAPITALS) except units i.e. mm, kg.
The standard text font for drawings shall be ARIAL.
The style name for this font (with a 1.0 width factor) shall be ARIAL or STANDARD.
Text with non-standard widths shall be defined as styles with descriptive names e.g.:
ARIAL95 (ARIAL with 0.95 width factor).
Standard text styles can be defined within a drawing by running the script file
\\Tekpdc\Cad\Admin\Scripts\Tk-texts.scr.

Drawing to Scale
All CAD drawings shall be drawn full size with the drawing border, text and drawing symbols
inserted to the main drawing scale factor. For example, if a drawing has a main drawing scale of
1:50, the drawing border, text etc., is scaled up by a factor of 50. Plans, layouts, and general
arrangements shall be located at their real world co-ordinates.
For schematic drawings, symbols and drawing border are use in original size and scale. The drawing
border shall have its insertion point in the co-ordinate origin.

Dimensions
Standard dimension variables can be set within a drawing by running the script file:
P:\Admin\Scripts\Tm-dims.scr
- for metric drawings or
P:\Admin\Scripts\Imp\Ti-dims.scr - for imperial drawings.

2.11.

Drawing Borders
Project drawing borders (found at L:\[PROJECT]\Drawings\) shall be based on the Company
standard drawing borders. The Company standard drawing borders can be found at
P:\admin\borders\.
