MY HOBBY
Introduction:
A hobby is some task that keeps us busy and also entertained when
we are free from our routine works. This is also something that keeps us
and makes us aware of our inner desires, talents and capacities.
Hobbies are activities which help us escape the daily grind of life and
work and give us pleasure and peace of mind. Because we are not being
ordered to perform certain jobs which we may not be fond of, hobbies help
to inculcate an appreciation for work rather than driving us away from it.
Our hobbies are usually somethings that we as individuals like to do
besides our daily chores. Hobbies are thus of many different kinds, each
person having a hobby that caters to his/her likes, talents and innate
desires.

Types Of Hobbies:
There are many kinds of hobbies like reading, playing, socializing,
gardening, stamp collection, and the list goes on. No one has all these
hobbies but we all have one or the other of these which we enjoy doing in
our free time.
For every individual it is very necessary to develop some hobby so
that at free or lonely times, he can keep himself busy. Since our hobbies fit
into the frame of our likes and aptitudes, we are always happy when we are
involved in working of hobbies.
For instance, a person who is good in drawing can develop the hobby
of drawing and all that is akin to drawing, like painting, making cartoons or
the like. A person who is fond of reading can develop the habit of reading
the works of different writers. In reality, hobbies can be said to be our best
companions, who are guided only by ourselves.

 My Hobbies
o Stamp Collection:
As far as my hobby is concerned, my hobby is stamp collection, and
collection of old coins of Pakistan and the world. This hobby of mine has
developed through the span of the last three years, ever since I was in the
fourth standard. This has started ever since I started studying the subject of
History.
This subject fascinated me and I loved to read about rulers and their
different systems. This love for History was enhanced when I was in the
fourth standard, my uncle who is settled in America, and widely travelled
through many other European countries, came to India. When he came
three years back, he brought a lot of American and other European
countries' coins.
These coins excited me, and my interest in collecting coins and
stamps started forthwith. I just loved the idea of these collections and felt
that, they revealed a lot about the countries. By and by, I also learnt that,
old stamps and coins can also be had and collected, as, they also depict a lot
of the past about rulers and countries in the past. So, this habit of standard
four, has, by now, in four years, bloomed into a great hobby of mine.
I collect stamps from my friends and relatives living and coming from
abroad, and coins from some of my relatives who are settled in foreign
countries. The pictures on the old and new stamps depict so much about
other countries, and the coins show us how the embossing on coins existed,
and what all metals were used in making old coins.
This hobby gives me an incentive to study the otherwise very boring
subject of History. I now love to study specially the ancient civilizations of
the world, and see how their Governments worked. This in turn gives me a

deep insight into the growth and developments of various civilizations of

the world.
This hobby of mine has given as if, a new dimension to my study of
History. If I cannot get any coins, then, I try to find pictures of them from
books, and draw them in my scrap book, to keep record. This hobby has
enlightened me to the fact that it is our forefathers who really did the spade
work of development, and we are building upon it. This hobby keeps me
busy in my free time and, I also get a sea of knowledge about the past and
the growth of civilizations.

o Gardening:
The joy of witnessing blooming flowers and leaves fills my heart with
a sense of achievement and realizing the fact that the work of my own
hands is bearing fruit definitely gives me pleasure.
Gardening also helps to keep me fit, strong and healthy for working
away in my garden results in the beneficial kind of exercise that is good for
both mind and body. I inherited the love for gardening from my mother
and now with her help and interest; I have prepared a small garden in front
of our porch. It is a thing of beauty with a grassy carpet and trimmed
hedges.
I grow several varieties of plants including the China rose, jasmines,
ferns and gladioli in my garden. The recently purchased Christmas tree is a
welcome addition too. Every day after school it is my habit to check on my
garden and look after the plants. The garden has to be kept under a strict
check, mowed punctually as the grass grows at a speedy rate during the
rainy season, and cleaned at least twice a week. However, during autumn
due to the shedding of the leaves, I have to clean it daily while always

adding manure and plant medicine for the protection of these wonderful
creations of God. A little bouquet of pretty flowers also makes a wonderful
gift for birthdays and anniversaries.
I am also thinking of including vegetables in my garden for it will save
us the purchase of vegetables from the market and we may also sell them to
other people at respectable sums of money. It is possible to grow the
vegetables that are consumed daily and do not take up much space.

Advantages of having Hobby:

The interesting thing about hobbies is that they dramatically
improve our own personalities and character traits, therefore improving
our performances better on the whole. They help us discover talents and
abilities which we may never have known ourselves to possess also
giving us an insight of all the elements around us, making us learn new
things each day. For instance, hobbies like stamp collecting, bird
watching, photography, sports and music make our time worthwhile and
give us information about different things.
