image was showing worldwide.
Because of the similarities between Colombia and Indonesia, bilateral relations
have been prosperous and different projects have been conducted to explore the
potential of each country, Indonesian companies have made visits to sugar
plantations and factories of Valle del Cauca and shared experiences to protect
children from early childhood with Colombia.
Commercially, imports have increased to $ 242 million and exports from Colombia
to Indonesia were 334 740 000 between 2011 and 2012. The Main exports to
Indonesia are chemicals such as medicines, fungicides and carbon and major
imports are machinery and equipment, palm oil, and elements of the automotive
industry.
At present, Colombia and Indonesia have established some agreements to
improve economic and relations such as
- Trade Agreement (October 24, 1996)
- Cooperation Agreement between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(October 24, 1996)
- Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of a Joint Commission,
signed in May 2011.
- Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, signed in October 1999 and
in force since April 2008.
- Cultural and Educational Framework Agreement, signed in October 1996 and in
force since November 2002
Trade relations between Colombia and Indonesia provide great benefits for both
nations as they allow to expand their markets through various trade agreements
and economic blocks to which each country belongs, improve investment
opportunities and disclosed an attractive image for the external sector.
Indonesia and Colombia have very similar aspects in its economy and policy, both
are part of the CIVETS and are considered countries or emerging economies due
to their biodiversity and the changes that have been implemented to improve
business development and increase investment, plus high potential for growth and
diversity in the different sectors but Indonesia has an advantage over Colombia
due to the development of infrastructure to facilitate communication and trade with
the rest mainly from Asia and Oceania, and also it seeks to position its own
products and thus achieve greater global competitiveness than our country.
In conclusion, the bilateral relations between Colombia and Indonesia establish a
large variety of opportunities and advantages; at commercial level, exporters of
Colombia have a great opportunity in Indonesian market at short and medium term
in the following products: Pharmaceutical and medicinal preparations, insecticides,
rodenticides, fungicides, herbicides, seeds, plastics and related and sales and citric
acid while Indonesia has opportunities in machinery and equipment, textiles,
footwear and basic chemical in the Colombian market, therefore, this exchange
represents an advantage in the sectors in which each country has potential and
strengthen them in a positive way to efficiently serve foreign markets.
Correspondingly, Indonesia represents a great alliance with Colombia because it is
the 16th economy at global level and it is the only member of the G20 in the
Southeast Asia, it has a growing and prosperous middle class that supports the
growth of GDP and a Strategic location between Asia and Oceania for which more
than half of all international ships passing through the waters of Indonesia. On the
other hand, Colombia has pronounced strengths that benefit its relation with
Indonesia, it is the third most business-friendly and the leading reforming country in
Latin America, it has a solid export platform which positions the country as a
gateway for the world and it has a privileged geographical location and a
developed logistics infrastructure.
