5 days after the end of the Tour of the Basque Country, what do you
think about that race you lost for only 7 seconds?
Not only in the Tour of the Basque Country but also since the
beginning of the season you showed that you are in good condition
and in front in all the races in which you took place...
Now other goals are approaching with the classics. How did you
prepare during the week?
“On Sunday after the Tour of the Basque Country I traveled
back home and I rest the entire day. On Monday I was back
on my bike but without making too many efforts. It was
important to recover forces before what is expecting is in
the Netherlands and in Belgium.”
It seems you have more difficulties with the Amstel Gold Race. How
do you explain that?
The organizers modified the route of the Flèche Wallonne and also of
Liège-Bastogne-Liège. What do you think about that? Can such
changes modify the way the race will unfold?
As for Liège, the Haute-Levée and the Vecquée fell out of the
route. On the other side there are two new hills in the last
60 kilometers: Maquisard, which I still don’t know, and Mont-
Theux, I remember I climbed a few times. It is difficult most
of all because it is a straight line and for that reason it can
give the impression that it is longer and more difficult that it
is in reality. I think that the new route can provoke the
selection earlier. It will be very important to keep forces for
the last part. For sure the race will be very nice and full of
emotion.”
