Columbus Day is the name that is called in most Latin American countries party
on October 12 to commemorate the Discovery of America by Christopher
Columbus in 1492.
The Columbus Day is celebrated on October 12 in most of Latin America. It was
created from the nineteenth century, initially spontaneously and unofficially, to
commemorate a new cultural identity and fusion product of the encounter
between the indigenous peoples of America and the Spanish colonizers, as well
as the appreciation of the Hispanic cultural heritage. Although the name
"Columbus Day" is the most popular at present, the official name usually varies
from one country to another

reviews
In some places there have been critics with the festival considering that the
discovery of America and the subsequent conquest by European powers, led to
a "genocide" to submit or "destroy" the pre-Columbian cultures, not strictly
distinguish between the two fenmenos.22 The critics with the celebration of
October 12 in turn are criticized for their "incapable" biased and not objective
position to distinguish between the various forms of European colonization, the
events in different historical periods and in particular the different treatment
and granting rights granted to indigenous peoples by different settlers. The
traditional position in favor of the conclusion of the meeting between Worlds
also mentions the prohibition of abuse and Indian slavery, decreed by the
Crown of Castile in 1512, as an example of this difference, often ignored by
opponents of the celebration. The different postures have created a debate on
the content of the celebration in some countries. In some cases it has led to
changes in the current commemoration of October 12, as in Argentina, where
now the native cultures and tolerance between cultures claimed. In most is still
celebrated as "Columbus Day" or "Day of the Race" alluding to the race or
Hispanic culture that emerged in the sixteenth century fruit of the meeting
between the indigenous peoples of America and the Spanish.
