PSED 110
0BSERVATIONAL CHILD STUDY
3 units
The course deals with the comprehensive study of the development of children and the use of observation techniques to study young
children. It develops students competencies in observing behavior of young children and recording observations through the actual use of
different observation techniques. It also includes the weekly observation and/or working directly with children in the preschool setting,
recording, and reporting results of observation.

At the end semester/term, the students should be able to:

1. discuss how observation is used for assessment of children and for curriculum planning for early childhood programs

2. develop critical skills in objective observation to an analysis of childrens behavior.


3. demonstrate the ability to keenly observe childrens behavior through the use of different techniques in observation and recording.
4. demonstrate the development of critical writing skills through anecdotal recording to accurately and objective record in written children in the
preschool setting.
5. make oral and written reports of their observation of childrens behavior in the early childhood setting.

Policies and Expectations
Classroom Decorum
During classes, you are expected to be in the classroom on time. Be sure to wear the schools official uniform and ID when attending classes. Refer to the Students
Handbook for policies related to late entrance and not wearing of uniforms.
Moreover, you are expected to listen attentively as well as participate actively in the classroom lectures/discussions. With this, I expect you to ask relevant questions,
and share your ideas regarding the topic. Making of unnecessary noise especially those that are not related to the class is discouraged. With this, cell phones and
other sounding gadgets should be turned off or be set in silent mode during the class.
Attendance
Attendance will not be graded but will be checked. However, it is of your advantage if you attend the class regularly. Absences from exams are only considered
excusable under the following circumstances: illness of the student; religious observance (where the nature of the observance prevents the student from being present
during the class period); participation in schools activities at the request of school authorities; and compelling circumstance beyond the student's control.
Absence during exams and late submission of requirements
Only those whose absence is excused will be given special exam or quiz (refer to College Terms and Examinations section (page 14) of the Student Handbook.
However, the special exam should be taken within a week (7 days) after the examination date. Special quiz should be taken immediately on the day you reported in
class. Non-compliance of the aforementioned provisions would mean a grade of 50% in the exam/quiz missed.
Note: All other provisions stipulated in the Student Handbook will be applied in this course
