1.0 MODULE DESCRIPTION

2.0 MODULE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this module students should demonstrate:
1.0 an understanding that respiration is the means by which energyis made
2.0

available for carrying life processes.

an understanding of the necessity for transport mechanisms in living

3.0

organisms.
an understanding of the processes by which living organisms get rid of
metabolic waste and regulate body fluid concentration.

3.0 MODULE CONTENT AND OVERVIEW

3.1 UNIT ONE: The Respiratory System
Knowledge outcomes
Students should be able to:
1.1 state the function of ATP in energy transfer at the end of the lesson.

1.2 distinguish between aerobic and anaerobic respiration after class discussion.
1.3 define respiration without help from the textbook.
1.4 draw representation of the human respiratory system after veiwing the chart
provided.
1.5 label structures of the human respiratory system from diagrams provided.
1.6 state the functions of the structures in the human respiratory system at the end
of the lesson.
1.7 identify the main parts of the respiratory system on the model provided without
using the textbook.
1.8 compare exhaled air and inhaled air presenting the information in an
appropriate table at the end of class.
1.9 describe the features of gaseous exchange surfaces after class discussion.
1.10 outline the mechanism of breathing with the without the help of the
textbook.
Psychomotor Outcomes
1.11 carry out an experiment to investigate the products and reactants of
respiration with the help of the teacher.
1.12 design a simple model to demonstrate the mechanism of breathing in groups
of 4s with the help of the teacher.
