MOBILE PHONE POLICY FOR STUDENTS

Several parents have inquired recently into the schools policy in regards to the use of mobile phones by
students. We understand that many students make contact with parents at the end of the
school day on their mobile phones and to this end we do allow students to bring their phones
to school.
The only restriction we have to the use of the phones is that they are placed at the office
during the school day and can only be used after 3:30pm. Phones will be removed from any
student who chooses to access these during the school day, with these being returned to the
student at the end of the day. Parents will be contacted if any students continue to breach this
practice.
Please note that the school cannot accept any responsibility for the loss or damage to any mobile phone as per
the Department of Educations guidelines on this matter.

PLANNING WEEK
In the final week of term one we will be operating on a modified timetable as part of
planning week. Instead of students participating in their specialist programs throughout
the course of the week, these classes will be timetabled to occur on one day, thereby
allowing all of the teachers at each level to be released. When teachers are released for
the day during planning week, they will spend the entire day working collaboratively to plan an
overview of the curriculum program for next term.
This approach to our term by term curriculum planning, helps to ensure a heightened degree of
consistency in our program delivery across all levels of the school.

Bikes & Scooters

Many children ride bikes, skateboards and scooters to school each day. All bikes and
scooters must be stored in the designated areas. Please ensure your child has a chain
and a lock. All children who ride a bike or scooter must wear a helmet which is a
requirement by the Government . The school regularly reminds all children about
wearing helmets for their safety. All bikes, scooters, skateboards, rip sticks and helmets
must be labelled, with your childs name and class. Children are reminded they
must walk their bike, scooter, skateboard or rip stick to and from the
school gates. No bikes are to be brought through the school buildings and we request,
where possible, that Scooters are also not walked through the building.

tenure.

*On Wednesday the 24th, some of the Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6s went to the District Swimming Carnival to
swim in races against seven other schools at Colchester Pool. In the morning the Grade 4s and 5s got
dropped off by their parents then we stayed there for the day with Miss McGhee and Mr Kitchen.
Throughout the day the rest of the Grade 6s came and the 3, 4 and 5s left. Our big achievers were
Chelsea Conduit and Lily Buck who came in 3rd and 4th place. The relays were the big thing with four
people from every school in the same age group and it was a timed race but
everyone had fun that was the main thing. Special thanks to Miss McGhee,
Mr King, Mr Kitchen and the parents for getting us there and staying to watch
us or help out.
