How to change the rear brake pads & discs on a SAAB 93 2002 on (Vauxhall vectra)

You will 1st have to get your self some pads & discs, brake cleaner and some copper ease if
you don’t have any lying around I got all this from Eurocarparts for under £40
That £10 each for the discs, £15 pads, £1.50 for brake cleaner £2.50 copper ease (this is the
price if you ask for it to be put on a H2 account ie trade).

There are 2 types of discs vented and solid my car is an Aero and has the vented.
There is only 1 type of pad that is fitted to both

Now you will need some tools

Here we have a jack, brake rewind tool (this is not a must have as you can you the long nose
pliers but makes life easer if you have a stubborn piston), rubber mallet, wire brush, 1/2inch
ratchet and brake bar, E18 socket, 7mm alan key, 1/4inch ratchet T30 socket and a torque
wrench.
So 1st off get the car safely jacked up and take off rear wheel (make sure hand brake is off)

2 Remove the retaining spring (fig 3)

3 Remove the protective covers see pic above (fig4)

Now remove the hydraulic body you will need a 7mm alan for this

Be careful not to damage the brake pipe

4 Remove the brake pads


5 Remove the brake calliper carrier you will need the E18 socket and a brake bar for this

6 Remove the brake disc locking bolt you will need the T30 bit for this

7 Remove the disc you will prob need hammer for this (good time to see if discs are the same)
8 Give your new discs a clean as they norm have oil on to stop them rusting whilst in storage.

9 Clean the contact surface between the hub and disc I used a wire brush and put some
copper ease on. Then fit disc and locking bolt
Tightening torque 7 Nm (5lbf ft)

10 Clean the calliper carrier and apply some copper ease. Then fit carrier tightening torque
130 Nm +45 degrees (96 lbf ft +45 degrees)
11 Screw in the brake piston with the rewind tool (you can do this without with some long
nose pliers) I find it helps if you clean 1st with brake cleaner (it rewinds clock wise)

12 put some copper ease on the piston

13 make sure the pads are the same as old one and copper ease
14 Fit pads the one with the spring goes to the back

15 Fit calliper its worth putting some copper ease on the pins tightening torque 28 Nm (21 lbf
ft) Then fit the retaining spring

16 Put some copper ease on bolts and Fit wheel tightening torque for alloys is 110 Nm (81
lpf ft) and steels is 50 Nm +90 +90 degrees, max 110Nm (37 lbf ft +90 +90 degrees, max 81
lbf ft)
17 Press brake pedal a few times to press out the pistons if you need to adjust the handbrake
take coin holder out of centre console you will see a 13mm nut you can adjust this with hand
brake off by turning clock wise I like it have 3 to 4 click for a full on handbrake
