Till 17th century AD, India, equipped with its rich trading activities and rapid urban development, was estimated
to have the largest economy of the the medieval world controlling between one third to one fourth of worlds
cumulative wealth. Come the Mughal era, annual earning from tax in this period was estimated to be in the
order of 100 Million and thereby making Indias GDP contribution to the world a staggering 21 %. But as
18th century started India had started showing indicators of declining economy e.g. low daily wages. Indias
share in the world income went down from 27 % in 1700 to 3 % in 1950.
Starting from traditional British Raj to modern-day corruption; myriad factors have played their roles in
making India one of the poorest nations of the world today. Currently 363 Million (29.5 %) people are under the
poverty line. A little bit of reflection reveals the true causes of poverty in india

Social inequality which in turn leads to exclusion and marginalization

Illiteracy, which acts as a feeder to early marriage, literacy dividend

Population momentum, which feeds to unemployment

Skewed Gender Profile, a root cause of problems like High mortality rate, malnutrition

Unequal distribution of wealth

Flawed economic reforms

Corruption

Poverty is multidimensional and so should the approach be to eradicate it. While on a broader level strategic
steps in the front of Infrastructure Development, Financial Inclusion and Social Sector
Interventions could be taken to address the poverty issue, each dimension has its own nitty-gritties.

It is my beliefi believe that to be a consultant in a firm like Dalberg, which

solves the most pressingclamoring concerns of the world, one needs the
motivation to work for such causes and the capability to solve such complex
issues.
Born into a lineage of strict patriarchy, I have been a direct witness, if not a
victim, of the atrocities against the girl child. Being sensitized from such a
tender age and my first-hand experience only reinforced my resolve to
bridge this gap. My father, being a social worker, has always been the
change agent in my native town Berhampur. His initiatives, starting from
modernizing government hospitals to providing for education of meritorious
yet resource-crunched students, have forever fueled my desire to give back
to the society. (My father is a part time social worker who has been
instrumental in transforming the landscape of my region, Berhampur,
ranging from instituting advanced practices in the only government hospital
in the region to providing for education for meritorious students with no
avenues to go outside the area for quality education.) My mother is a
supervisor in the Women and Child welfare department in the government of
Odisha and hence I have grown up understanding subtle nuances about
which schemes affect maternal mortality rates more and how to minimize
the number of underweight babies. I come from a small town of India yet I
have seen and read about the biggest developments across the world
(Redundant). My experience of problems, awareness of solutions and
attachment to my roots are my motivation to work for such causes; all I need
is an enabling platform like Dalberg.
I have done this shit, that shit, helped so many people, did projects with so
and so govts and all this gave me a closure to what I actually want to do.

Growing amidst resource constraints has enabled me to increase my
efficiency to maintain quality demonstrated by a consistent academic
performance with balanced extracurricular activities. A degree in electronics
engineering enhanced my analytical problem solving approach and
facilitated integration of concepts at a cross-functional level to develop novel
practical solutions. Having gained direct experience in implementing such
solutions as an Assistant Manager at TATA Motors, I could understand and

overcome the practical issues in the process. Besides that, it allowed me real
life experience with people and processes. MANAGEMENT AND TAS
My family and a background in engineering has indeed given me a
perspective of looking at issues plaguing the society through a more
analytical approach focusing on sustainability and intrinsic solutions
tempered with a humane lens. As The experience of MBA enabled me to
understand a situation holistically and equipped me with skills to precisely
transform ideas to solutions. Hence I think I am a fit for the role and the
