Based on our review, the submittal does not meet the intent of the above standards and is
considered Not Acceptable, due to the comments listed below. All plan review
comments should be incorporated into the final design. The contractor should provide an
item by item review response letter addressing all plan review comments listed herein upon
resubmittal.
1. It should be verified that the plant is provided with two independent water supplies,
capable of maintaining the maximum fire protection water demand for (2) hours
in accordance with Ford Standards. All fire pump and water storage tank
installations should be located on a plant site plan for reference. The available water
supply information utilized as the basis for the hydraulic design should be based
upon actual fire pump test information or water flow test information taken on the fire
protection loop piping.
PROSISA: Attached you can find the Pump Fire test and we included the necessary
corrections. Please Check- Drawing Fp-05 y Fp-06
The use and distribution of this document are expressly limited by the terms of a disclaimer incorporated herein.

The hydraulic calculations should be based upon 80% of the 2nd highest rated fire
pump with the total demand and hose stream allowance carried back to the ring main
connection. If the total demand and hose stream allowance is carried back to the fire
pump discharge, the design should be based upon 95% of the manufacturers
pump curve in accordance with Ford Bulletin 8 requirements.
PROSISA: Attached you can find the Pump Fire test and we included the necessary
corrections. Please Check- Drawing Fp-05 y Fp-06
2.

3. It should be noted that including the remote K5.6 sprinklers as flowing sprinklers in the
remote areas of operation in both of the submitted calculations, overflows the entire
system. These sprinklers should either be replaced with sprinklers of the same orifice
size as those protecting the hazard area or not be included in the remote area as they
are not located in or associated with the hazard area.
PROSISA: We included the necessary corrections. Please Check- Hydraulic
Calculations
4. The submitted drawings for the ground floor Benchmark area indicates (31) sprinklers in
the remote area of operation while the submitted calculations indicate (30) operating
sprinklers in the remote area. Additionally, the hydraulic reference points noted in the
submitted calculations do not totally agree with the hydraulic reference points indicated
on the plan in respect to the flowing sprinklers. Please clarify and revise the plans and
calculations to match.
PROSISA: We included the necessary corrections. Please Check- Hydraulic
Calculations
5.

The submitted hydraulic calculations for both areas should be revised to include the
friction losses for the PIV control valve on the 8-inch underground lead-in piping and the
(4) control valves on the existing 12-inch ring main piping and the fire pump discharge
fittings, check valve and control valve losses. Please clarify and revise the calculations
for GMs files.
PROSISA: We included the necessary corrections. Please Check- Hydraulic
Calculations

6. No occupancy description or storage details were provided with the submitted materials
for ground floor Benchmark area. The contractor should provide a brief occupancy
description and storage details, if applicable, to verify that the submitted 0.40/3000
sprinkler design density is appropriate for this area. The submitted 0.20/3000 laboratory
density appears adequate for the area provided that there are no laboratory hood
operations which involve exhausting flammable/combustible and/or hazardous materials.
PROSISA: The design criteria was according by Ford request, due to they have
access units with a minimum rate of gasoline, for a process of measurement, and
this area has parts of units which are analyzed only temporarily.
7. Verify that pipe hangers will be provided on all arm-overs to pendent sprinklers which
exceed 12-inches in length where subjected to system pressures in excess of 100 psi, in
accordance with NFPA 13 requirements.
PROSISA: We included the necessary corrections. Please Check- FP-01 Drawing Note
8.

Verify that proper thrust block restraints will be provided at all change of direction in
accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 24 requirements. Verify that the required thrust
blocks will be sized utilizing the 2013 edition of NFPA 13 bend factors, the bearing
strength of the actual soil conditions at the site and the maximum anticipated working
pressure on the underground piping which considers the fire pump installations at the
site. All thrust block locations should be indicated on the submitted drawings.
PROSISA: Please Check- FP-04 Detail D-01 and Table 1.
The use and distribution of this document are expressly limited by the terms of a disclaimer incorporated herein.

9. The submitted drawings appear to indicate that the portions of the new underground
loop supply main piping, hydrant supply piping and sprinkler system lead-in piping will be
located directly under the roadway or will cross under the roadway or will be located
under truck dock areas. It is recommended that special precautions be taken to prevent
damage to the piping due to shock and vibrations from heavy truck traffic, if it is
determined that this is a concern at this location. NFPA 13, Section 10.6 recommends
that piping be run in covered trenches to help protect the pipe from damage under these
conditions.
PROSISA: Please Check- FP-04 and FP-05 Note 2, the new underground is burrier at2m. 3.28 ft
NFPA 24
10.4.4 Pipe under driveways shall be buried at a minimum depth of 3 ft (0.9 m).
10.4.5 Pipe under railroad tracks shall be buried at a minimum depth of 4 ft (1.2 m).
10. The submitted plans indicate that new underground piping is located close to the
building exterior walls. NFPA 24 recommends a 40 foot distance while Ford Bulletin 7.02
recommends a minimum distance of 25 feet be maintained. The contractor should verify the
acceptability of the proposed underground and PIV locations in these areas with Ford
Corporate Fire Protection and plant personnel prior to installation.
PROSISA: The distance between the new underground piping and the building
exterior wall is 11m due to the of space.
11.

The systems must be installed in accordance with NFPA 13, NFPA 24 and Ford
Standards.
PROSISA: It meets the requirements

12.

Equipment data sheets should be submitted for review in accordance with Ford
Standards on all proposed materials, equipment and components to be on this project.

submittal. It should be verified that minimum C900, DR 14 PVC piping and Class 54, 200
psi ductile iron piping will be installed in accordance with Ford Bulletin 7.02
requirements.
PROSISA: It meets the requirements

13.

All new underground system piping should be hydrostatically pressure tested for two
hours at 200 psi or 50 psi above the maximum anticipated working pressure whichever
is higher. All new underground fire protection improvements should be properly flushed
and hydrostatically tested in accordance with NFPA 24 requirements prior to backfilling
and connection to the overhead sprinkler system piping.
PROSISA: It meets the requirements

14.

Complete the Contractor Materials and Test Certificate for all new underground system
piping. Provide a copy to Ford and submit a copy to our office.
