Tidbits and Tidings

Sometimes it is hard to believe that we are
16 years past the fears that accompanied
Y2K. Remember the almost sheer panic that
preceded January 1, 2000. Ultimately it was
much ado about nothing. People of faith
knew that no matter what might or might not
happen, God was still in control.
We cannot deny that we are caught in the
flow of time. However clever and industrious

For this New Year and beyond, may we hold

tightly to these words I dont know about
tomorrow, I just live from day to day, and I
dont borrow from its sunshine for its skies
may turn to gray. And I dont worry about my
future for I know what Jesus saidand today
He walks beside me for He knows what lies
ahead. Many things about tomorrow I dont
seem to understand, but I know who holds
tomorrow and I know who holds my hand.

we may be, and however much we seem to

accomplish, we must know that all we have
built and all of our works will eventually be
toppled and washed away in the flood of the
yearsas the circle of time marches onward
so we askwhere is God in all of this? If
nothing else, it is an important question.
However, there is moreCertainly Gods
timing is hidden to us, for our own lives and
for His creation. And yet, for each of us,

Thank You
Thank you sincerely, from the Scott house
to yours, for your love and generosity shown
to us not only this CHRISTmas, but
throughout the year. It has always been a
privilege and blessing to serve the Lord at
Bethany.

regardless of our ups and downs, our

conflicts, struggles and even despairs, this
life is a gift, a precious giftnot for another
time or place, but for here and now.
For though it may seem, at times, that life is
a circle of time, a merry-go-round that we
ride for a time and then fall off, the ultimate
truth is that God remains in control. Indeed,
something new is afoot. The time of the
Saviors coming has been fulfilled and that is
good news for all, especially for the weary as
we round the bend of another calendar year.

Bethany Annual Meeting

Our annual meeting has been set for
January 31st after our normal service.
We have important issues to resolve
and need everyone available to attend.
I hope to see you there.

the heading of attitudes and actions.

1. WAKE UP - Begin the day with the Lord. It is His day.
Rejoice in it.
2. DRESS-UP - Put on a smile. It improves your looks. It
says something about your attitude.
3. SHUT-UP - Watch your tongue. Don't gossip. Say nice
things. Learn to listen.
4. STAND-UP - Take a stand for what you believe.
Resist evil. Do good.
5. LOOK-UP - Open your eyes to the Lord. After all, He
is your only Savior.
6. REACH-UP - Spend time in prayer, not just with
personal petitions for Gods intervention, but eve
7. LIFT-UP - Be available to help those in need through
serving, supporting, and sharing.

At the same time, we had the

electrician replace the circuit
switches in the kitchen which
were causing us to lose power
to some of the plugs
downstairs as well as
electricity to the piano-which is
not good since there is a
heater inside to keep the piano
healthy.

WELCA - January 2016

Happy New Year!
December was an exciting and busy
month at Bethany!
Sometimes it is hard for me to draw
the line between a WELCA activity
and a congregational activity. Since
all women are members of WELCA,
then ANY activity the women are
involved in becomes a WELCA
sanctioned activity. That said the
Men of ELCA (MELCA) are always
there to support us and provide the
assistance and guidance we need,
so thank you MELCA for all your
efforts!!
In December:
We made and delivered 10
cookie plates to Bethany
friends and family that needed
a little extra love and attention
for the season and for many
different reasons.
We fulfilled the wishes of the
Giving Tree and thank you all
so much for your generosity!
In all, we delivered 33
requested gifts for 4 different
families. We also delivered 4
baby and youth quilts, 4
certificates for holiday meals,
and 6 board games.
We hosted 3 Advent Soup
Suppers
We collected and contributed
312 pounds of food to the
Columbia Pacific Food Bank.
(Much of this food was from
the Thanksgiving Eve Eve
Service and some of it was
donated by the individual

staying at the church during

Hood to Coast last summer.)
We assisted with setting up
and decorating a beautiful tree
in the sanctuary.
We undertook the cleaning of
the church which will now be a
WELCA Circle activity. Thank
you ladies for stepping up and
keeping our beautiful church
clean and beautiful!
Thank you again to the Nastroms for
donating the tree AND the
magnificent Advent wreath.
Now, our attention will turn to the
Quilt Show. There will be two
planning meetings on January 17th
after service and January 28 at 3:00
pm. As always, we will need all
hands on deck to help: Baking pies for kitchen and/or items for
bake sale; working - Thursday-set
up, Friday & Saturday - kitchen or
upstairs hosting our guests; cleaning
week before the show and/or on
Saturday; sales of quilt tickets,
distributing advertisement, etc.
Please help however you can!
Thank you in advance. Quilt show
dates are: February 12 & 13.
Please watch for additional
information on WELCA meetings
and the Quilt Show.
Thank you all for everything youve
done and given in 2015. I hope you
have a happy and healthy 2016!!
Nancy Conner,
WELCA Secretary

can see, Jerrie Cate and Bill Grogg must leave the council after our annual
meeting on January 31st. Additionally, Shannon Fitzgibbons has withdrawn
from the council which leaves an additional vacancy. We implore all of you to
strongly consider stepping up to join Pam, Barb, Ron, Tracey, Chris, Angela
and Pastor by filling these positions and help lead Bethany in the coming

Thanks
Many thanks to the folks that teamed together in many combinations to help with our beautiful
Noble Fir Sanctuary tree. Donating, cutting down, transporting, setting up, purchasing decorations,
decorating, watering every day, enjoying every day, de-decorating, taking down, preparing the
trunk for our Easter cross. There are many aspects to one tree that we don't want to take for
granted!! It starts with God's gift of nature! THANK YOU GOD!

2016 WELCA Circles

These Circles have been formed in an effort to organize the efforts of willing and faithful servants at
Bethany. The main focus of the Circles would be to organize and serve at special events at Bethany,
specifically weddings and funerals.
However, based on the size and scope of an event, it may be necessary to call on other Circle
members to assist, or to recruit help within the congregation from ladies not yet assigned to a specific
Circle.
In addition, Circles may host special celebrations such as baptisms or confirmations.
