Planets and Management Gurus.

Management is a word having application in several fields today. In olden days
it had relevance in political or rather monarchical set up. The king was the CEO
and his ministers and administrators at different levels of administration were
actually carrying out a political function in managing the country and several
kinds of works. In that sense the Raja yogas were found applicable in conferring
administrative responsibilities and also political power. But today management is
largely applicable to corporate sector, trade and commerce. Management as a
subject is supposed to be needed in running business and firms. In the light of
changing relevance we have to see how far the Raja yogas that are about power
and mostly political power are applicable in todays changed scenario.
The most important yoga for leading a group or a country is Gaja- Kesari Yoga. In
that sense this is supposed to be the much needed yoga to head a company or
manage men and material. As Gaja (elephant) is the mightiest among the
herbivores and Kesari, the mightiest among the carnivores, it is said the one who
has the combination of these two will be invincible and powerful wherever he /
she is, and capable of ruling a kingdom. When Jupiter is in a quadrant to Moon,
this yoga occurs. Though this yoga (while not suffering any obstruction) is found
to favour the native with power, the fact is that not all leaders and managers and
administrators are found to have this yoga. It is therefore necessary to look for
yogas and combinations that make one successful in managing business or work.
With this intention, this writer checked the horoscopes of 8 prominent CEOs and
deduced the basic astrological factors from them. There was a limitation to this
study as the time of birth of most of the celebrity CEOs are not known or not
authentic. Therefore this writer took up the Jaimini rules on powerful positions as
enumerated from the Atmakaraka. Atmakaraka is the planet that has travelled
maximum in a sign compared to other planets. The Atma karka except in the
case of Moon would not vary for a given day. With this in mind, 8 popular
successful celebrity horoscopes were analysed. Further on this writer took up the
horoscopes of 15 people who have done MBA in prestigious institutions and have
been working in leading position in industry as Managers or CEOs. The deduced
results from the celebrity horoscopes were applied to these horoscopes. The
result of this study is discussed in this article.

Astrological rules:-

The following are the verses from Jaimini Sutras related to powerful and
managerial position in work.
1. When the 2nd, 4th and the 5th signs from Atmakaraka are benefics or
benefics are there, one acquires supreme power or position.
(Jaimini Sutram 1-3-30)
2. If the 3rd and 6th houses from the Atmakaraka have 2 malefic
planets or if they both are owned by malefics, then also Raja yoga.
(J-S. 1-3-31)
{Note:- 3rd and 6th are upachaya houses. Malefics in Upachayas confer Raja
yoga. Here the Upachaya houses are counted from Atmakaraka}.

3. If from the lords of the 1st and 7th houses from the Atmakaraka, the
5th house has Guru, Shukra and Chandra, the native has political or
Governmental power or authority. (J-S. 1-3-35)
{Note:- This can also be checked for 5th and 11th houses from Atma karaka. The
first house stands for self and the 7th house stands for employees. These two
must be in good stead for one to be a successful Manager. The 5 th house from
each of them signifies the Purva punya respectively for them. When it is good as
signified by the presence of benefics like Jupiter, Venus and Moon, the manager
subordinate relationship will be smooth and mutually fruitful.}
4. If Shukra, Kuja and Ketu are placed with the Atmakaraka or in the
2nd and 4th from it, the native becomes the king or ruler (J-S. 3-1-7)
{Note:- Conjunction of Venus or Mars or Ketu with Atmakaraka is indicated here.
If there are in 2nd or 4th, then also a person gains power and acceptance from
subordinates.}
5. A Rajayoga is caused when the lagna, the 7 th and the 9th houses are
strong. (J-S. 3-1-8)
6. If in the 1st and 11th or in lagna or 7th, Guru and Chandra are
separately placed and are aspected by benefics the native becomes
the ruler (J-S. 3-1-12)
{Note:- Jupiter and Moon, as in Gaja Kesari Yoga are taken here. From the verse
it is obvious that they must be 3-11 or 1-7 between themselves}.
7. If the planets given in the above verse are Budha and Chandra and
if they have conjunction or aspect of benefics, the native becomes a
king or a heir-apparent. (J-S. 3-1-13)

{Note:- This means Mercury and Moon must be in 3-11 or 1-7 position or in
conjunction with or without benefic aspects}.
8. When Chandra and Shukra aspect or associate the sign of the
Atmakaraka and the lord of the Karakamsa, there is Raja yoga. (J-S.
3-1-15)
{Note:- Karakamsa is the Navamsa occupied by the Atma karaka. The lord of
Karakamsa is also to be checked for association or aspect by Moon and Venus. }
9. When the Atma karaka is in Thula Navamsa, the native will be a
trader or a man of commerce. (J-S. 1-2-8)
{Note:- This is an important verse with close relevance to Management
capabilities. Thula or Libra is the sign signifying trader or businessman. The
association of Atmakaraka with This sign gives a natural advantage for a person
to be successful in business and managing men and material. This logic can be
further extended to the common signs namely Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and
Pisces. Common signs indicate a nature of adjustment and adaptation and
acumen to get things done. Of these 4 signs Gemini and Virgo can be called as
traders signs, as Mercury the planet for business acumen is the lord of them.
Sagittarius and Pisces are signs of wealth and clever-bossing of people as they
are lorded by Jupiter. We will check this point in the case studies.}
10.When Budha is in 2nd from Karakamsa lagna, the native becomes a
trader or businessman, weaver or doing business in yarn or textiles,
sulphur and well versed in social, legal or other activities. (J-S. 1-217)
{Note:- Mercury is the planet for trade and commerce. Its position in the 2 nd to
Karakamsa signifies what comes out from Karakamsa. Always any house or
bhava is the outcome of the previous house or bhava. As such whatever is the
natives inner strength as signified by atmakaraka is seen as its result in the 2 nd
house.}
11.When Shukra is in the 2nd from the Karakamsa lagna, the native
becomes a Government official or a political person, a passionate
person and virile till he completes a hundred years. (1-2-19)
12.When the 10th from Karakamsa lagna has Budha or is aspected by
Budha, the results are similar to that Shani gives, that is, the native
is famous in his profession. (J-S. 1-2-40)
{Note:- 10th house signifies the profession. Mercury stands for business acumen
while Saturn stands for work. When either of these two is posited in the 10 th
Karakamsa, the native excels in his job.}

The derived rules for management:

From the above rules of Atma karaka the following ideas are understood.
1. Jupiter as a major planet in Gaja Kesari yoga, capable of conferring
popularity, success and wealth must be in the 7 th from Atmakaraka.
2. Moon as the other planet in Gaja kesari yoga signifying the mind and
thinking capability, it must be in conjunction with Atmakaraka (henceforth
written as AK) or in 3-11 or 1-7 relationship with AK.
3. Saturn is the planet for labour. A manager has to deal with labour or
manpower. He must be clever in handling them. In that way Saturn must
be in benefic distance from the AK. It could be in Kendra or Kona but the
most desirable position would be in the 9 th house of Bhagya. Ability to
have smooth manager- worker relationship is a gift that one must be born
with. Therefore 1-9 relationship between AK and Saturn is foreseen in
successful CEOs horoscopes.
4. Benefics must join AK or in 5th, 11th or 2nd and 4th from it.
5. Coming to Karakamsa lagna, the 2nd house must have Jupiter or Mercury or
Venus. These benefics in 7th also guarantee good relationship between the
native and the people the native has to deal with.
6. Saturn and Jupiter are once again checked from Karakamsa as they are the
Dharma- Karmadhipathis in the natural zodiac and they also signify
respectively labour and power to boss the workers and subordinates.
7. It is ideal to have Karakamsa lagna in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces.
8. It is also ideal to have karakamsa lagna in Libra or in its counterpart in
Taurus as Taurus signifies shouldering responsibility and tireless work.
With these inputs when the 10 celebrity charts were checked, it was pleasantly
found out that almost all of them had Nipuna Yoga also known as BudhaAdithya Yoga wherein Mercury and Sun are conjunct. Either they were conjunct in
the same rasi or they were close to each other with no other planet in between
them when they were in successive rasis. This yoga confers skill or acumen or
expertise in the job one does. In management job too, such skill is necessary in a
various issues concerning management. It is found that this yoga has overtaken
Gaja kesari yoga as not many CEOs and Managers were seen to have Gaja-Kesari
Yoga.

Successful CEO horoscopes.

(1) Indra Nooyi, CEO, PespsiCo

{Sun- Mercury conjunction. Ketu in 4th, Jupiter in 7th and Saturn in 9th from AK.
Moon itself is the AK.
Karakamsa lagna in Gemini joined with Saturn. Mercury in 2 nd to Karakamsa. }
(2) Chanda Kochhar, MD, ICICI Bank Ltd.

{Sun- Mercury conjunction. Saturn is AK. Moon- AK in 3-11 axis. Mercury, Venus
and Sun in 10th from AK.
Karakamsa in Gemini. Jupiter in 5th and Mercury and Venus in 2nd to Karakamsa.}

(3) Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, MD, Biocon

{Sun-Mercury conjunction. Venus and Mars with AK and Ketu in 4 th from AK. Moon
in 3-11 axis with AK. Saturn in 7th while Jupiter is by itself the AK.

from Karakamsa. Sun ensured Government contacts. Note the debility of Saturn
in no way affected the growth as it is in 5 th from Karakamsa.}

{Sun- Mercury conjunction. Jupiter in 7th and Saturn in 9th from AK. Moon on 3-11
axis with AK.
Karakamsa in Sagittarius. Mercury and Moon in 3-11 axis with Karakamsa. Saturn
and Jupiter in 5th and Ketu in 4th from Karakamsa. Note Saturn is in debility but
did not affect the labour relationship as it is in 5 th from Karakamsa. Venus in 9th
from karakamsa lagna and 7th from the 7th lord from karakamsa.}

(6) Jamsetji Tata, the first Industrialist of India, Founder of Tata Group.

{Sun- Mercury conjunction. Gaja Kesari also happening in 7 th house to AK. Moon
and Ketu in 7th and Saturn in 9th to AK.

with Karakamsa. Venus in 2nd Saturn in 5th and Mercury in 2nd to Saturn, the 7th

(7) Bill Gates, Inventor, Chairman of Microsoft.

{Sun- Mercury close to each other. Saturn is the AK and conjunct with Venus.
Karakamsa in Gemini and conjunct with Mars and Venus. Mercury in 2 nd. Moon in
7th from Jupiter, the 7th lord from Karakamsa.
Not many features as discussed above are seen. It may be because he is more
an inventor than a Management person.}

(8) Steve Jobs, CEO Apple Inc.

{Sun- Mercury close to each other. Venus is the AK. Jupiter and Ketu in 7 th from
AK. Saturn in 3-11 axis with AK. Moon in a quadrant from AK.
Karakamsa in Sagittarius. Saturn and Jupiter in the 7 th and Sun in the 2nd.}

People with MBA degree in management position.

A total of 15 horoscopes were collected of MBA graduates who are in medium or
high level management in private companies or in own business. The inputs
derived from the above discussion were applied on their charts and analysed.
The birth details of the 15 charts are given below. For the purpose of privacy, the
lagna and moon sign are given instead of time and place of birth.
S.No:1 = 27-05-1979. Lagna= Virgo, Moon = Taurus.
S.No:2 = 23-02-1980. Lagna = Leo, Moon = Taurus
S.No:3 = 12-06-1976. Lagna = Leo, Moon = Scorpio.
S.No:4 = 06-05-1974. Lagna = Scorpio, Moon = Libra.
S.No:5 = 14-08-1976. Lagna = Leo, Moon = Pisces.
S.No:6 = 30-09-1977. Lagna = Aries, Moon = Aries
S.No:7 = 25-03-1979. Lagna= Gemini, Moon = Aquarius.
S.No:8 = 05-09-1978. Lagna = Capricorn, Moon = Virgo
S.No:9 = 06-12-1977. Lagna = Gemini, Moon = Virgo.
S.No:10 = 05-11-1974. Lagna = Libra, Moon = Gemini.
S.No:11 = 04-11-1979. Lagna = Aries, Moon = Aries.
S.No:12 = 29-01=1969. Lagna = Sagittarius, Moon = Taurus

Seven major factors were checked in all these horoscopes. They are presented in
the table below. The first factor is Sun mercury conjunction or Nipuna Yoga.
Yes denotes the presence of the factor and No denotes absence of it. In the
case of Karakamsa lagna, Yes denotes any common sign. Where it is different
the name of karakamsa sign is given.
It can be seen that Taurus is predominant among other signs. It is also seen that
only 8 out of 15 horoscopes have Karakamsa in a common sign. Among them
only S.No: 9 having Leo as Karakamsa is earning less than 10 lakhs per annum.
Others are making more than double of it.
Other predominant factors are presence of Nipuna Yoga and presence of Jupiter
and Moon in favourable axis from Atmakaraka as told in Jaimini Sutras.
Of the 15 charts only one had all the points present. That is S.No: 6.
The native of this chart is the Director of an overseas operation handling human
resources. He is highly successful and this is confirmed from the presence of
many features as found in celebrity CEO charts.
The only chart that has very less number of points (3/7) is S.No: 7.
This native had specialised in finance in MBA. He quit his job and started his own
company which is yet to pick up.
The next lowest score is 4/7 bagged by S.No: 2. This native had specialised in
marketing and joined the family business. The business is doing moderately well.
