Influence of the Sun
Saravali 34.58. The native will gain through kings, wars, thieves, forests, quadrupeds etc., if the
Sun is placed in the 11th House, or, if the 11th House is aspected, or owned by the Sun.

The nature of Gains the native has can be deciphered from the various influences on the
11H from the Lagna.

The same can be seen from the Labha sthana from various other Lagna such as Arudha
Lagna, Karaka Lagna (Karaka Lagna = Sign occupied by the Chara Atmakaraka in the
Rasi chart). Similarly Karakamsaka is the Navamsa sign of the Atmakaraka mapped back
to the Rasi chart.

The influence of the Graha on the 11H can be one of the following manners-

1. Lord of the 11H

2. Aspecting the 11H
3. Placed in the 11H
4. Planets conjoining to the 11L or having Sambandha in other manners

When a Graha is placed in the 11H, it will take precedence in deciding the matters of
Gain. If there is no Graha placed in the 11H, other influences such as 11L, aspects and
conjunctions will play an important part.

Sun signify the following among other things. This is not exhaustive and an
intelligent astrologer should use all the known significations of the Graha-

1. Kings: Sun is the King of the Jungle, Lion

2. Wars: Sun rules wars being a fiery Graha, like Mars
3. Thieves: Sun when weak signify thieves (i.e., use of power and violence, low morals)
4. Forests: Forest is signified by the sign Leo. This can indicate forest animals, animal
products, or forest products
5. Quadrupeds: Among the animal kingdom, Quadrupeds and Birds are ruled by the Sun

Influence of the Moon

Saravali 34.59. (1) Should the Moon be in the 11th House, or her division so related to the 11th
House the native will gain through females and through sales of elephants. (2) If the Moon is
declining, these are not much, but an increasing Moon increases these gains greatly.

Moon is a Graha of dual characteristics and changeableness. It increases in strength in

Sukla-Paksha and it declines in strength in Krsna-Paksha. Strong Moon behave like a
Sattva Graha, while weak Moon behave like a Tamas Graha.

The author suggests that we also should look at the Amsa (specifically Navamsa) of the
11H and note the influence of the Graha. The Amsa of the 11H falls in the 7H in the
Navamsa chart as 11H is part of the Kama Trikona (3711).

If Moon is placed in the 7H in the Navamsa chart of the 7H is ruled by the Moon, then
the Moon may influence the matters of Gain. The same can be said if the 11L is placed in
Moons Navamsa or conjoined with Moon in Navamsa.

Following significations of Moon are called out:

1. Females: This can be association of females, such as trade with females, trading on
female clothing and other female products. Weak moon can also indicate sale of female
services or prostitution.
2. Elephants: Elephants are ruled by Jupiter, as in Gaja-Keshari yoga (Gaja = Jupiter,
Keshari = Moon). Moon exalts Jupiter, hence where Moon is strong, the significations of
Jupiter may also become strong. They may occur in pairs, so one should keep a open
mind towards Jupiters significations as well, especially when Moon is very strong in
Paksha Bala. Purnima Moon is akin to Jupiter whereas Amavasya Moon is akin to Saturn
in nature.

If the Moon is waning, the wealth will decline with time whereas waxing moon will
indicate increase in wealth.

Influence of Mars
Saravali 34.60. Mars or his divisions related to the 11th House, as above denotes gains through
gold, coral, ornaments, ruby, money, valour, coming and going (i.e. travels), fire and weapons.

The 11H will always fall in the 7H in the Navamsa and 11H in the Drekkana. Hence the
7L and 11L should be checked in the Navamsa and Drekkana respectively.

When Mars is connected to the house of gains, then the gains can happen through
some of the following significations of Mars:

1. Gold: Fiery Grahas Mars and Sun rules gold. Also Jupiter in a fiery sign Sg also ruled
gold.
2. Coral: Previous gems linked to Mars is coral
3. Ruby: Ruby is governed by Sun. However, Mars being a fiery Graha can also indicate
Ruby
4. Money: Money is not a signification of Mars but a signification of Mercury. It is
however, a signification of 11H indicating that the native can gain wealth in the form of
currency as well.
5. Short travels: Mars being the significator of the 3H, it indicate short-duration travels or
vacations.
6. Weapons: Mars is the governor of all weapons of the world as it is god of war.

The significations mentioned above are only representative of various possibilities. One
should be aware of all the significations of Mars.

Here the living significations of Mars are not mentioned, perhaps because the living
significations are to be known from the Bhavas i.e., 11L placed in 3H or 3L in the 11H or
conjunction of 3L with 11L can indicate gains from siblings.

Influence of Mercury
Saravali 34.61. Should Mercury, or his divisions be related to the 11th, as above, the native will
gain by writing, arts, literature and arguments.

Following significations of Mercury are called off. This is no way comprehensive-

1. Writing: All forms of communications are governed by Mercury, written, oral or via
other means such as telecommunications. The person could gain from authorship,
journalism etc.
2. Arts: Various forms of arts such as dancing, yoga etc. which need flexibility and
suppleness of the body is governed by Mercury.
3. Literature: Books, library etc. are governed by Mercury
4. Debates: This is a derived form of speech and communications. The native can gain from
debates, arguments, essay competition etc. They can also gain from becoming a lawyer,
mathematician etc.

Influence of Jupiter

Saravali 34.62. Jupiter, or his divisions so related to the 11th House indicates gains through
headship of a city, royal mercy, Sacrifices (religious), meritorious acts, gold and horses.

Following significations of Jupiter are called off. This is no way comprehensive-

1. Head of a city: Jupiter represent the ministers in the court of the kind. They may be
given the responsibility to head smaller regions, estates etc.
2. Royal mercy: Jupiter is the judge who has the authority to punish or forgive someone.
He is also the religious Guru who has the moral authority to forgive someones sin and
redeem.
3. Religious sacrifices: Jupiter represents a priest and it indicate religious sacrifices or
ceremonies or Yagnas (fire sacrifices)
4. Meritorious acts: Meritorious acts for the benefit of the mankind are all governed by
Jupiter as it is the spiritual guide to the king.
5. Gold: Jupiter governs gold especially in Sagittarius.
6. Horses: Horses are governed by Mercury as they are fast and are used in many games.
Jupiter usually governs elephants.

Influence of Venus
Saravali 34.63. When the planet Venus, or his divisions are so connected with the 11th House,
one will gain through connections with prostitutes, travels, pearls and silver.

Following significations of Venus are called off. This is no way comprehensive-

1. Connections with prostitutes: This can be anything related to females such as beauty
products, garments etc. In olden times the only gain from females were gaining by using
the in sex trade. However in modern times, this is likely only if Graha such as Rahu is
involved indicating adharma.
2. Travels: Venus rules long distance travel and voyages for trade and commerce as it is the
Karaka of the 7H. Unlike Mars who rules short duration travels and vacations.
3. Pearls: All sea products such as pears, sea shells, sea food etc. are governed by Venus.
Venus gets exalted in Pisces which governs the ocean.
4. Silver: Silver is ruled by watery planets Venus and Moon while gold is ruled by fiery
planets Sun and Mars.

Influence of Saturn

Saravali 34.64. Saturn, or his divisions so connected with the 11th House indicates gains
through towns and villages, acts of lasting nature, iron, donkeys and buffaloes.

Following significations of Saturn are called off. This is no way comprehensive-

1. Towns and villages: Saturn being the natural 10L rules ownership of a vast land. It can
indicate becoming a mayor or governor etc., whose responsibility is to execute kings
(Sun) orders. Being son of the Sun, it is also obligated to carry out the dictate of the
father. Saturn is a strict disciplinarian- one with a iron hand.
2. Acts of lasting nature: Saturn is the slowest of all Grahas, hence, it indicates things
which cant be destroyed easily. Saturn also rules coldness which acts as an agent for
preservation indicating again its long-lasting nature. Saturn is also the karaka for
longevity.
3. Iron: Iron and other oil (petroleum) and minerals (metals, ores etc.) which are extracted
out of the earth are ruled by Saturn.
4. Donkeys and buffaloes: Saturn is the karaka for labor, hence it represents animals used
for labor intensive activities.

Influence of both Shubha and Krura Grahas

Saravali 34.65. The effects attributed above stand increased, if benefics aspect the 11th House,
will decrease by malefic influence and will remain mixed with the interference of both benefics
and malefics.

Aspect of natural benefics such as Jupiter, Venus, Moon (strong paksha-bala) and
Mercury will always increase the Gains manifold.

On the other hand aspect of malefics such as Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu and also Sun will
diminish the quantum of gains indicated by the 11H.

If both benefics and malefics influence the 11H, the effect is proportionally impacted.

Influence of Multiple Grahas

Saravali 34.66. (1) If the 11th House is aspected by (or associated with) all the planets, advent of
wealth will be in several ways. (2) The strongest of those will have the highest influence.

The influence of more Grahas in the 11H will increase the gains manifold.

It is said that no Graha give malefic results when placed in the 11H.

When there are multiple influences on the 11H, the strength of the influencing Grahas
need to be judged as well. The stronger among them will have a greater capacity to
influence the matters of Gains.

Effect of Graha Avastha on Quantum of Gains

Saravali 34.67. (1) A planet in its own Sign, or in a friendly Sign will give half of the effects
attributed. (2) These effects are full, if it is in its exaltation Sign, very meagre, if it is combust
and just one fourth, if inimically placed.

This is a continuation of the previous verse which advises that one should judge the
strength of the aspecting Graha on the 11H. The strength is affected by the Avastha of the
Graha in following way-

1. Exaltationfull

effect (1)
2. Friendly signhalf

effect (1/2)
3. Inimical sign- quarter effect (1/4)
4. Combust- very minimal (1/8)

Extent of Gains
Saravali 34.68. (1) The effects relating to the 11th House, as mentioned above will be
experienced right from birth, according to Yavanas. (2) But according Lokaksha, kings and
heads of zones stand to enjoy abundant gains (as against a common man).

There are certain events in life which are experienced only at certain time in life while
there are others which are experienced throughout. The events which are experienced
only sometimes are-

Lagna: self-realisation, 2H: Incoming of huge wealth, 3H: Birth of siblings, 4H:
Acquiring house, vehicles etc., 5H: Begetting children, acquiring power, 6H: Court cases,
litigations etc., 7H: Marriage., 8H: Serious health hazards, 9H: Righteous activities, 10H:
Honour, 11H: Gain of friends, 12H: Foreign travel, pilgrimages

For the above kinds of important events in life, one should use various timing methods
such as natural age of Grahas, Bhavas, use of Dasas, transits etc.

Yet there are some significations of Bhavas which occur every day or even every
moment. They are-

1. Lagna: Nature

2. 2H: Food, speech

3. 3H: Courage, enterprise
4. 4H: Home, mother etc.
5. 11H: Gains (sources, types)
6. 12H: Losses (sources, types)

These events dont have to wait for the right dasa, transits etc. and happen throughout
life.

The author quotes Lokaksha who says that the quantum of gains of a King is going to be
higher than a normal person. This is line with the desha-kala-patra concept, which tells us
that the same combination can yield different quantum of results depending on the
background of the person, the place and the time.

Sources of Gains
Phaladeepika 16.29. Note the following two Bhavas: (1) The bhava owned by the Grahas placed
in the 11th, (2) The bhava occupied by the lord of the 11th. The (gain) acquisition of objects
connected by the Bhavas concerned may be predicted. (3) A similar judgement may be made also
through planets occupying the 11th house.

The sources of all Gains are seen from the 11H. The sources of gains can be attributed to
Rasi, Graha and Bhava influenced by the 11H or the 11L.

Note the following regarding the sources of Gains-

1. Planets placed in the 11H. The bhava owned and the natural signification of the Graha
can indicate Gains from their sources.
2. Bhava occupied by the 11L. The significations of the bhava can indicate the sources of
gains.
3. Planets conjoined with the 11L. The functional and natural signification of the Graha can
indicate Gains from their sources.
4. Bhava or Graha aspected by the 11L. The functional and natural significations of the
Graha indicate the sources of gains.

It is important to note that among multiple significations only some of them are active in
the matters of gain at any point in life. During different stages in life and under different
dasa some of the sources become more predominant in the matters of gain.

For instance, say Venus is placed in the 11H for Sg Lagna. It indicate that the time of
marriage, the gains pertaining to Venus will be prevalent. Venus in Libra can indicate
gains from Trade (Li). In the 11H, it can indicate gain due to self-effort or friends (11H)
or elder siblings (11H) or even spouse (Venus)

Much gain from Trade: 11th lord is in exaltation and in a Kendra, and Mercury becomes the
2nd lord.

The source of gains can be seen on the influence on the 11H and the 2H.

Exaltation of 11L or in a its placement in a Kendra indicate much gain as this provides
strength to the 11L (Kendra= strength, Trikona= blessing).

Mercury indicate trade and commerce.

Very rich and exercises caution in expenditure: If the 11th lord aspected the 2nd lord and the
4th lord and combines with the 9th lord.

Strong 2L indicate that the native is frugal and is cautious about where to spend the
wealth. Strong 2L promote savings.

4L influence indicate gain of real-estate.

Influence of 9L indicate blessings.

Attracted towards decent ornaments: If the 11th lord is a benefic and has beneficial aspects.

This is not clear why ornaments and not other sources of gains.

Reputation as a philosopher and a lecturer: If Jupiter occupies the 11th house and Mercury
aspects it.

Native gains from the natural Karaka of the Grahas placed in strength in the 12H.

Jupiter-Mercury influence indicate professor, judge, lawyer, lecturer, philosopher, author

etc.

Perfect contours: If the 11th lord is a benefic aspected by benefics and occupying favourable
positions.

The native becomes handsome but why? The appearance and overall bearing is governed
by the Lagna and the 2H.

Deafness: If Saturn or Mars afflicts this combination.

Jupiter and 11H govern over hearing.

Affliction of 11H, 11L and Jupiter by Saturn, Rahu can cause hearing loss. Hearing needs
air as a medium, hence influence of Saturn & Rahu.

The influence of Mars causing hearing loss need to be verified.

Powerful influence in the society: If the 11th lord and the occupants of the 11th house are
powerful.

To be verified.

Mentally worried but financially well-off: If the 11th house is occupied by Saturn, Mars, Rahu
and the Sun with no other benefic aspects.

All Grahas give some or other forms of gain when in the 11H. Hence even malefics are
placed in the 11H, they give gains.

However, they can give worries as well as the Gains will be tainted by the means
indicated by the nature of the malefics.

The same can be said if the 11H is aspected by malefics.

Some important yogas from Kundali Darpan by Satyavir Shastri

1. 11L Sun in Neecha Navamsa, the native gains wealth from others wives.
2. 11L Vargottama and under malefic influences indicate gain through bad associations. On
the other hand benefic influences on Vargottama 11L indicate gain from the govt.
3. 11L, 9L and 2L in the Kendra from the Moon, then the native gains wealth early in life. If
Jupiter is one of the 11L, 9L or 2L and placed in the Kendra to the Moon, then the native
gains wealth, honour and position.
4. Mrdang yoga: 11L in deep exaltation conjunction Venus and the dispositor of the 11L in
Kendra from the Lg. Such native becomes wealthy after 40th year.
5. Sharada yoga: Vargottama and well associated 11L aspect the Lagna. Such native gains
fortune in the last part of life.
6. Bharati yoga: The navamsa dispositor of the 11L is exalted and associate with the 9L or is
placed in the 11H. Such native is fortunate, endowed with luxuries and is prosperous.

7. Kalanidhi yoga: 3L and the 11L are placed in the 7H, and 7L is placed in the strength in
12H. Such native attains much fame.
8. Mala yoga: 11L, 2L and 9L in own houses. Such native is highly fortunate, wealthy and
famous.
9. Chandra yoga: Exchange between 11L and 5L, and 4L conjoined with the Moon. Such
native is famous and wealthy.
10. Gaja yoga: 11L-9L-Mo in 11H and aspected by LL. Such native is highly wealthy.
11. Naga yoga: 5L in 9H, and 11L-Mo in 2H. Such native is highly fortunate and wealthy.
12. Vidyut yoga: 11L in deep exaltation conjoined with Ve and LL in Kendra. Such native
rise in fortune early in life.
13. Nada yoga: Malefics in 5H-11H axis and benefics 2H-8H axis. Such native is extremely
happy and contented.
14. Nadi yoga: Benefics in the 5H-11H axis and malefics in 2H-8H axis. Such native attains
high position and authority in life.
15. Ardhendra yoga: All grahas (from Su to Sa) between 5H and 11H. Such native is chief
among people, handsome and highly popular.
16. While 2L and 11L are friends to the LL, it indicates earning from righteous means.
17. 11L in Kendra or Trikona from Lg, malefics in the 11H, and 11L in uccha rasi or navamsa
indicate high wealth.
18. 11L being a benefic in the 10H, 10L in 9H and 9L in 11H indicates excessive wealth to
the native.
19. Ve signs in 5H placed with Me or Ve, and Sa in 11H indicates high wealth.
20. Me signs in the 5H placed with Me or Ve, and Mo or Ma in the 11H indicates high wealth
