PHILOSOPHY OF GUIDANCE

II. GOALS
The following are the goals of the Guidance and Counseling Department:
1. To initiate innovative programs along the different units of the department and sustain
existing relevant activities in order to effectively respond to the standards of quality and
excellence
2. To undertake research and studies that respond to the needs of students and contributes
to the improvement of services and instruction
3. To ensure just and optimal utilization of human and material resources in the fulfillment
of the institutional goals for maximum productivity
4. To provide services and activities to holistically develop students who will become
steward leaders for the society
5. To nurture the Catholic-Augustinian values of missionary-spirit and communityorientedness and the promotion of gender sensitivity, creation-spirituality, political
education and justice and peace

III. OBJECTIVES
The High School Guidance and Counseling Unit aims to achieve the following:
1. To assist the students in their adjustments to the developmental tasks of
Adolescence.
2. To provide information and guidance so that students may make wise career
choices.
3. To help the students discover their hidden interests, potentials or capabilities.
4. To provide a facilitative foundation for college life.
5. To aid students in realizing what they are capable of becoming and direct their
interests and activities towards the maximization of who they may become.

IV. GUIDANCE & COUSELING SERVICES


The BED- High School Guidance unit renders the following services to the students,
faculty, personnel, administrators and the community as a whole:
1.

Counseling Service
Counseling is the keystone of the guidance services. It is a professional relationship
is usually person-to-person, although it may involve more than two people. In
counseling, the counselor listens and facilitates the counselee in clarifying issues in
relation to the counselees view/perception of her realities and to help her find

satisfying solution to her problems. The ultimate decision is done by the counselee
herself after analyzing the different sides of the problem including the Christian
approach to it. Counseling sessions are given individually or in groups. Its purpose
is to help the students know and gain insights about themselves in particular life
situations through the aid of test results and interviews. It also enables students to
gain the ability to solve their own problems and make intelligent choices and
adjustments in their lives.
2. Testing Service

The High School Guidance Personnel assist the Testing Personnel Officer for the
implementation and facilitation of the testing program given to BED high school
students. Different psychological tests such as mental ability, personality, interest,
aptitude and achievement tests were administered, interpreted and analyzed.
Testing Service is designed to acquire adequate and reliable data about the
students capabilities and aptitudes. By using the standardized and valid test
materials, the students mental ability, achievement, values, interests and
personality are made known. These data are used for varied purposes.

Information Service
The High School Guidance Personnel facilitates the Orientation Program in
coordination with the BED Principal and BED Coordinator of the Student Activities.
Inventory service is also included in the information service this includes the used of
Cumulative Record Folders (CRF) where all information about students recorded
are kept and updated in the office.

4. Research and Evaluation


These services refer to the studies and surveys undertaken by the Guidance Office
to assist the institution in the curriculum/program, development and the students in

their development inside and outside LCUP .

Follow-up Service
A continuous monitoring program designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the
intervention procedures in relation to student progress & adjustments. Follow up
sessions are conducted among students who are counseled, referred by faculty,
administrators and other university staff. The follow-up service ensures that the
student has learned appropriate behaviors and decisions regarding his/her problem
or need.

Auxiliary Service
The High School Guidance Personnel also provide other services as the need
arises through the following :
6.1 Consultation is a collaborative partnership in which the guidance counselors
consults with parents, teachers, administrators, learning support staff, tutors and
other community health professionals. Parents and teachers are welcome to
make appointments with the counselors to discuss any academic, social or
emotional concerns.
6.2 Referrals for additional support outside the classroom as well as consultation
with learning specialists and other mental health professionals.
6.3 Talks/ Symposiums - The guidance team is responsible for the development
and implementation of talks to students and parents and other workshops
regarding students and parents development.
6.4 Teacher In-service Trainings the Guidance Personnel provides lectures,
seminars, talks and the like to teacher regarding child development, the social
lives of children, positive discipline/ behavior management.

Recruitment and Admission - the High School Guidance Personnel

coordinate with the admission and recruitment committees towards the end of
every semester. This service includes: giving Career talks, sending out of
brochures and bulletin of information to different day care centers and
elementary schools.

6.6 Placement Service - This service is done through the conduct Students
Career Orientation and assists them in facilitating their application for college
in coordination with the placement and career office. The facilitation of the
clientele's movement to the appropriate educational or occupational level or
program; entry into the appropriate co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities; pursuit of further education or other employment upon leaving the
institution.

VI . EVALUATION
Evaluation results should be used to make program improvements. Guidance Personnel ,
teachers, and administrators will use the results to make modifications to the program
and to compare the implemented program with program standards. Administrators and
policymakers will utilize the findings to make decisions about content, quality and
effectiveness of the program and to allocate financial and staffing resources.
A program to be effective and pertinent to the needs of its clientele should be subjected to
a regular evaluation. Guidance Services is evaluated through the following means:
