NEWARK - Just days away from a potential strike

by railroad workers, NJ Transit and union officials
met for hours Tuesday but reached no accord.
While they walked away without a deal, one union
official called the morning and afternoon talks a
good day of negotiations.
Steve Burkert, general chairman of SMART-TD
Local 60, said the unions brought multiple new offers
to the bargaining table, seemingly addressing a statement released by NJ Transit on Monday night claiming the unions dug their heels in the sand.

have homework to do, Burkert said. We had multiple proposals going back and forth across the table
proposals and counter-proposals. Tomorrows a good

The two sides will meet again on Thursday, he said.
NJ Transits monthly board meeting is scheduled
for this morning at the agencys Newark headquarters. A strike or lockout has been threatened for Sunday.
Todays discussions were productive and positive,
