To provide students with practical experience in order to develop and expand their understanding of the
nature of the civil engineering design process, through a simulation of design activities of professional
engineer in professional consultancy environment.
SINOPSIS (SYNOPSIS) :
Civil engineering graduates are expected to work in the design of various projects which require technical
competency and skills of managerial, organisational, communicative and team working. The projects
usually are multidisciplinary such as encompassing such as surveying, geotechnics, hydraulics, structure
and environmental engineering. This subject is design to develop those skills and competency through a
group project involving a number of major fields of civil engineering.
Design the building structures and infrastructures for complex engineering based on relevant guidelines.
[PLO10 C5]
2. Organize a project in team effectively as well as an individual. [PLO9 C5]
3. Propose a technical knowledge through project report for problem solving in civil engineering works
based on relevant guidelines. [PLO13 A5]
SRATEGI PENGAJARAN DAN PEMBELAJARAN (LEARNING AND TEACHING STRATEGY)
This course exposes students to a practical design experience through a real design project involving collaboration
with practising engineers. The ideas for the integrated design projects will be drawn from the work of professional
contacts in the civil engineering industry. Each project consists of structure and infrastructure design of civil
engineering. The projects provide an opportunity to simulate the design activities of a civil engineering consultancy.
The projects involve the use of software those usually used in industry and currently available at the university.
Students will work in group and be responsible for organising and managing their own group.
The groups will be supervised by a panel of academic staff representing the related major fields of civil engineering.
Technical meetings to be held regularly to address technical issues as the projects develop. A submission schedule is
organised in order to maintain a steady production of work over a fourteen-week semester. This regular meeting and
small group discussion support the learning outcomes.
Every group must present their design output in front of industry panel or interior panels. Three numbers of groups
only will be selected in every each section to present the front of industry panel. For others groups will be evaluated
by interior panels. Industry panel consists of professional engineer, while interior panels comprise experienced
lecturer
