Following someones philosophy is good as long as we do not follow him blindly.

The framers of Indian constitution were well aware of this fact and hence, they
borrowed features but never copied them. They took care to modify the
provisions as per the requirements and conditions of our nation. For example:
1) Nominal Head from UK: but our nominal head is elected unlike that of UKs
, also she has some discretionary powers.
2) Written constitution from US: but our Constitution is the lengthiest one, to
suit our needs, the background for this particular feature lies in our long
struggle for independence.
3) Judiciary from US: but unlike that of US, Indian judiciary is not given the
law of natural justice to be pronounced by it.
Apart from this, many features have roots in our own history, e.g.:
1) Secularism: we adopted this after learning lessons from our struggle.
2) Abolition of titles: this is completely indigenous and exclusive to our
society
3) Abolition of untouchability: an exclusive and age old feature of Indian
society that was dealt with extreme care and strictness
Thus, our constitution is a perfect blend of features, both originating from our
experiences and borrowed from other constitutions, that will aptly suit to the
aspirations and demands of a free India.

The founding fathers of the Indian constitution had a daunting task ahead while deciding
upon the features to be framed. They had a relative young nation with a less experienced
polity. Although majority of the constitution is derived from GOI Act 1935,they also
incorporated several features from other popular constitutions. This was mostly a logical
decision
as
these
features
were
already
time
tested
and
popular.
Some
of
the
borrowed
features
are
mentioned
below:1) British :- Parliamentary form of govt, rule of law, single citizenship
2)
US:Judiciary,Fundamental
rights.
3)
Russia:Fundamental
duties
4)Germany:Emergency
powers
5)Irish:DPSP
6)
Canadian:Federal
structure
with
strong
centre.
7)South Africa:- Amendments of the constitution etc
Although the critics have termed the Indian constitution as a bag of of borrowed material, it
should be noted that our founding fathers had not blindly copy pasted features. They had
modified the features according to the indian conditions. Eg. Our parliamentary system is not
the
exact
parliamentary
system
used
by
the
british.
The founders had also incorporated original ideas in the constitution namely, gandhian
philosophy in dpsp, universal adult suffrage right from the start, etc. So although the
constitution is inspired by other constitutions, the soul and heart of the constitution is entirely
Indian.
