CALL TO ACTION
On behalf PIEP, we call and enjoin everyone fellow
planners, practitioners of allied professions and the
private sector, representatives of civil society,
government and the academe, policy- and decisionmakers and other stakeholders to:

Session 1: The Filipino Identity

We call and enjoin everyone to: look to our Heritage for inspiration on
how we can imagine and build better spaces. Let us be guided by our
National policy1 to:

foster the preservation, enrichment, and dynamic evolution of a


Filipino culture
conserve, develop and promote the nations historical and cultural
heritage and resources
endeavor to create a balanced atmosphere where the historic past
co-exists in harmony with modern society and to approach the
promotion of our heritage in an integrated and holistic manner,
cutting across all relevant disciplines and technologies
administer heritage resources in a spirit of stewardship for the
inspiration and benefit of the present and future generations.

Session 2: (Re)defining Sustainable


Development for Filipino Cities

We call and enjoin everyone to: welcome the advancements


of how we perceive, define and practice Sustainable
Development, which we have codified as the harmonious
integration of a sound and viable economy, responsible
governance, social cohesion/harmony and ecological integrity
to ensure that development is a life-enhancing process2
That we reject ruthless (economy), rootless (culture),
voiceless (polity) and futureless (nature) growth
and conversely advocate for development that is towards
inclusiveness, responsiveness, resilience and sustainability.

Session 3: Mobility and the City

We call and enjoin everyone to: Increase efforts towards our


vision of a safe, efficient, viable, accessible, dependable,
integrated, environmentally sustainable and people-oriented
Philippine transportation system3 - as it is an integral part of
urban development.

We should promote the advancement of inclusive mobility


or more pedestrian-friendly modes of transportation - and
Move forward in adopting less- if not, non-pollutive and
eco-friendlier alternatives for connectivity.

Sessions 4 and 5:
Planning Tools and Alternative Urban Futures

We call and enjoin everyone to: Foster a climate of learning,


democratization of knowledge and innovation towards the adoption
of more informed strategies, sustainable approaches and
appropriate solutions.
Science and technology are essential for national development
and progress. It should be recognized that priority should be
given to research and development, invention, innovation, and
their utilization and to science and technology education,
training, and services4.
For us Planners we are challenged to (1) commit to contribute to
the development of the profession by sharing and improving
knowledge and initiating new and innovative planning concepts and
techniques (2) devote time, effort, talent, and resources for the
advancement of the profession and (3) to carry out our primary
obligation of serving the country and safeguard public interest5.
