INTRODUCTION:

One of the greatest philosophers of all time, Friedrich Nietzsche once

said Without music, life would be a mistake. Music has always been
one of the most important things to all mankind. Music is even accredited
to success in every other part of human life. But only in the past few
years has that all been put at risk. The race to being the smartest country
has led many to start to cut the fine arts out of education. Slowly sucking
the culture out of society and creating a race of joyless robots.
Fortunately there are efforts to turn this around. VH1s Save The Music
Foundation is one charity that dedicates itself to bringing joy back into
our childrens lives. With the help of charities like this, creativity can be
reestablished and our culture restored.

I. Music education is disappearing in public schools

A. Music and other fine arts are less emphasized in schools
1. Claudia Rowe, Columnist from the Seattle times reported Over 6
million elementary students alone have no access to music or arts classes
2. 40% of high schools in 2010 didnt require any arts courses to
graduate (Department of Education).
B. The National Education Association says Budget cuts hit music and
fine arts first because it is usually not part of the core curriculum and
isnt considered lucrative.
**It may seem like all is lost but there is help on the way.

II. Donating to charities like VH1s Save The Music Foundation and
other charities like it help bring music back to schools and raise
awareness of this issue.
A. VH1 Save The Music Foundation provides grants to public
elementary and middle schools that do not currently have an instrumental
music program in place
B. VH1 Save The Music Foundation identifies the schools of need and
invites them to apply for tens of thousands of dollars in grant money
from your donations
**From your donations it is easy to see the positive effects that can be
brought about by music education

III. Music education increases creativity and expression, enhances

learning in other subjects, and help to involve students.

A. Arts students are more likely to continue their education

.
1. A study by The National Endowment For The Arts found
that 71% of students coming from good arts programs attend college,
with only 48% from schools with little to no arts programs
.
2. Tim Walker, columnist for the NEA reports In High Schools
with good arts programs only 4% of students dropped out. High Schools
with little to no arts programs have up to 22% of children dropping out
B. Dr. James Catterall of UCLA has analyzed the school records of
25,000 students as they moved from grade 8 to grade 10. He found that
students who studied music and the arts had higher grades, scored better
on standardized tests, had better attendance records and were more active
in community affairs than other students.

**The benefits of music education seem endless

CONCLUSION:
You can help bring the joy of music to millions of childrens lives
through VH1s Save The Music Foundation. The budget cuts may
continue but we can make up for it. Most people know the importance of
the arts in education but fail to take action. John F. Kennedy once said,
There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long
range risks of comfortable inaction.
Hear the cries. Dont keep allowing the culture to be sucked out of the
minds of our children. Donate before it is too late.
