Though it was heavily crowded, the darshan was worth it. When you visit this
temple, also visit the near by Rahu temple (few meters away). Parking can be
an issue. Temple has very old history and you can buy history book

with in temple as well as outside. Typically it will take an hour to

see the deity and temple structures. Please plan your travel based
on festivals and crowd will be too much during festival days. This
temple is dedicated to the brother of Balaji (a form of Vishnu). The
temple is situated about 10 kms from Kumbakonam. This ancient
temple is in the heart of the city and if you are driving,ask for
directions,don't depend entirely on google. The prasadams given
in this temple does not have salt because of the residing deity's
history and hence the name uppilliappan. There are other
attractions inside the temple like the temple elephant and water
tank.

This is one of the older temples that we visited in our trip this time,
and is very special as legend has it that the kumbam for the start
of the next yuga is stored here, after the end of this yuga. The
Devi, Mangalambikai was beautifully attired in the madisar (9 yards
style) and it was an unexpected treat to get darshan of the devi in
the madisar style. :)

The temple is well-maintained and you can go very close to the

sanctum sanctorum for just Rs. 20/- per person. The staff are
dedicated, and unlike many temples in TN, not very commercially
minded. A very peaceful and divine experience. A very old stone
construction and a big temple. Know about the history of the place
from the pattachariar and the sculptures are magnificent. Motta
gopuram is a must visit. The sculptures are famous for their
bharatnatyam poses. Ambal is very beautiful

Around 7 Kms from Kumbakonam...it is considered the place

where Lord Muruga had given the meaning of the word 'OHM' to
his father Lord Shiva. One of the 6 important places of worship of
Lord Muruga. Well maintained temple. There are 60 steps to climb.
The temple is very good and we can have good free dharshan and
go around the praharams and sit for some time in the steps. We do
visit this place very frequently and it is a place where we get peace
of mind and satisfaction. There is not much rush generally but for
Krithigai and other festival days.

powerful and you can feel the vibes.a must see.This one place
where Durga has a temple for herself and is not part of a shiva
templePatteeswaram is just 4km from Dharasuram. Lemons are

just great. The temple is large and has five gopurams/ The

This temple is close to Uppiliappan temple. During normal days,

one require half and hour to one hour to visit this temple. In this
temple there is a special Archana (prayer) provision known as Pal
Abhishekam (praying with Milk which is called Pal in Tamil
language). You can buy a Pal Abhishekam ticket for Rs 200. The
Shiva Lingam is washed with Pal milk) & you can see the White
milk colour changing to blue colour as it flows down the Shiva
Linga.

Very large temple. You need about 1 hour at least to cover this
place. There is a specific gate from which you need to enter the
temple - please ask before you enter. This temple is supposed to
remove Brahmahathi dosham if you enter/exit in a certain pattern so check which gate to enter. Huge temple and the architecture is
brilliant !! The Lord of this holy place graces us as swayambu
moorthi. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is believed
that Ravana worshipped Him here by reciting the Sama veda.
There is a sculpture depicting Ravana lifting the Kailash mountain
with Lord Shiva and Parvati sitting on it. It is believed that
Brahmahathi is sitting at the entrance of the temple and hence,
people should leave by a different exit, in order to avoid
Brahmahathi Dosham. Lord Shiva temple and one of the padal
petra stalam by saivite saints. The white huge nandhi statue in
front of the temple is really wonderful. The temple wall(outside
praharam) has echo sound. Lord Siva helps freeing devotees of all
the sins (including Brahamahathi dosham) in this temple. Enter the
sanctum sanctorum thru the main door where you can see
Brahamahathi waiting at the main door. Hence when we come out
through another door. Very very big temple. Really massive.

.towards Mayiladuturai .Though regular buses are there, hiring a
taxi is a best option, as the temple closes at about 12.30 pm and
reopens at 4.00 pm. The priest was quite courteous and did the
archana without rushing through it. we were blown away by this
temple and the beauty of the idol and the pooja performed by the
priests. It is an absolutely wonderful place to visit with lots of
natural beauty surrounding the temple.

as of now, it is a newly established and get into fame as people
has to pass by this temple when you are moving around
Kumbakonam temples. More of a ashram, new generation
attraction than the culture and heritage of Kumbakonam temples.
Place is clam, peaceful, quiet and worth visiting. Maintained well
by the Samasthanam and period extention of the temple and its

We visited this temple during our kumbakonam temple visit trip. It

is one of the vintage temples in the numerous temples of
kumbakonam. Dhasrshan was very blissful and the deity had an
auro surrounding himself making you admire and worship him
immediately. One aspect I very much liked about this temple is the
walking path around inner most sanctum. Temple is being
renovated and there were construction activities going inside the
temple. The renovations had a distinct north indian influence may
be because North Indians are majorly funding the renovation I
guess. It looked somewhat odd to see the North Indian type
renovations inside a age old traditional south indian temple. May
be the temple authorities can take steps to maintain the original
ambiance of the temple. Overall it was a good experience visiting
this temple.

The main deity is Kambahareswarar. There is a separate sannidhi
for SARABHESWARAR which is very famous here.As per Purana
God NARASHIMHA after killing Hiranya has become very
ferocious & uncontrollable even by Devas.
Sivaperuman has taken the form of SARABHA to subdue
Narasimha.
The devotees firmly believe that for removing obstacles in
marriage, for begetting a child, for recovery from debts, for winning

worshipping Lord Sarabeswara is the best remedy.

This form comprises the forms of an animal, human and bird the
face of a yali, human body and the form of a bird. The form of
Narasimha consisted of a human body and the face of a lion. Kaali
and Durga became the wings of Saraba. Lord Sarabeswara lifted
Narasimha to space, drew out the asura blood (Hiranyans) and
pacified him. He took him to space because even if a drop of asura
blood fell on the earth, it would lead to the emergence of many
asuras. So, Lord Sarabeswara took Narasimha above the
gravitational sphere to prevent his blood falling on earth. The form
of Sarabeswara comprises four Gods Shiva, Kaali, Durga and

The priest told us that there are only 2 temples dedicated to

Bramha in Tamil Nadu. One in Trichy and one in Kumbakonam.
We rightly reached there for the curtain closing time- the last Pooja
at the temple at 8.00.p.m
A very small temple compared to the other temples in
Kumbakonam. Thimurthis are housed in this temple and Brahma is
in the side. He is depicted as a male from the front and as a
female(Gayathri) on the rear side. This face on the rear can be
seen through a mirror placed behind. However, the priest
demanded 100rs.if we wanted to see the mirror where the goddess
form is seen wearing a diamond nose stud. If u pray this god
career success and goodness to fate problems will recover.

This temple is unique in its aspect that here the Nandi has moved
away from its regular position of sitting in front of Lord Shiva. This
was to give way to Tirugnana Sambandar, a devotee of the Lord.
We went late one evening and after visiting Sri Durgai went to this
adjacent temple. Huge prakaarams and we were lucky to see the
night aarti for Lord Shiva, Devi and Lord Bhairava. Brilliant
architecture .. one can spend hours together in the temple
premises. Ppl often confuse between Dhenupureeswarar Temple &
Pateeswaram Temple. Both are the same! Dhenupureeswarar is
the main deity of this temple(God Shiva) and Patteswaram is the
area name where the temple located. This temple is also famous
for Goddess Durga although Goddess Durga is not the main deity
here.
