Camfil Farr DynaVane, with its

aerodynamic shape and precision
vane spacing, offers lower airflow
resistance and higher efficiency.

STAMPED
LOUVRES

Louvre-type is less efficent with

higher airflow resistance. Close
louvre spacing plugs easily.

Extensive tests were conducted on factory

production air cleaners manufactured by
Camfil Farr and a competitor. These tests were
conducted in the Camfil Farr Research Laboratory
and Test Facilities. The Camfil Farr DynaVane
Inertial Air Cleaner proved superior in five key
areas
(1) sturdier construction, (2) lower airflow
resistance, (3) higher efficiency, (4) balanced
bleed duct airflows, and (5) effective water
separation. Outside appearances are very similar,
the results prove that its whats inside that counts.
1. HEAVY-DUTY CONSTRUCTION The Camfil
Farr DynaVanes sturdy construction, with its
heavy angle iron frame and CorTen vanes,
offers a long-life advantage. Resistance welded,
self-supporting cells, as used in competitive
louvre-type air cleaners, are often subject to
vibration and handling damage.

DynaVane
Carbody Inertial Air Filter

The remaining carbody air, which is over 20,000

CFM on a typical road locomotive, is used to
cool the generators, traction motors, and
electrical components. Extra dirt penetration
into these costly components will cause
increased maintenance expenses.
4. CAMFIL FARR BALANCED BLEED DUCT
AIRFLOW Camfil Farr DynaVane air cleaners,
with their tuned bleed airflow, and over-size
dust bin, provide higher efficiencies at all throttle settings. Lateral bleed imbalances of 50% to
60% were noted on competitive unit tested.
5. EFFECTIVE
WATER
SEPARATION

DynaVanes specially designed water dams and

gutters prevent re-entrainment and carry-over of
water from the bottom pan. The competitive unit
was not observed to remove any water.

3. HIGHER EFFICIENCY On both high and low

airflow tests, using a MK III Pilat (U of W) Source
Tests Cascade Impactor and isokinetically sampling the clean air output, the DynaVane Air
Cleaner proved to be more efficient overall. 65%
more dust penetrated the competitive unit than
the DynaVane. This additional penetration greatly shortens the life of bag or pleated media filters which utilize approximately 10,000 CFM of
air entering the carbody. Diode banks and
other electrical components are also adversely
affected by any dirt penetration.

2. LOWER AIRFLOW RESISTANCE Competitive

airflow resistance at 1350 CFM (2294 m3/h), is
65% higher than the DynaVane. This higher initial
resistance means that cleaning must be
scheduled more often. Fuel costs increase due
to the higher airflow restriction at the turbo and
traction motor blower inlets.
