What is the Give! Campaign?

Give! is a year-end philanthropic initiative created to encourage everyone in the Pikes Peak region to give
back and get involved with local nonprofits, with a particular emphasis on catalyzing philanthropy from
those 36 years old and younger.
Over the last seven years, 151 local nonprofits have utilized the Give! platform to raise more than $6.7
million via 56,000 donations while also obtaining significant access to matching grants, media exposure
and dozens of hands-on training opportunities from local and regional experts.
The Give! Campaign is a joint project of the Colorado Springs Independent and the Pikes Peak Community
Foundation.

The Give! Mission

1.

To encourage those individuals who do not regularly give back to our community to donate time
and money, with particular emphasis on getting those in their 20s and 30s to become
philanthropists;
2. To educate El Paso and Teller County residents about the vital work undertaken by relatively small,
innovative nonprofits operating in and for our community;
3. To provide a Pikes Peak region-centric philanthropic platform that makes giving back to our
community extremely easy, enjoyable and effective;
4. To increase the fundraising and organizational capacity as well as the long-term viability and
visibility of participating nonprofits.

Requirements of Give
Give! is first a foremost a platform for local organizations. What you get out of the campaign is a direct
reflection of what you put into it.
For your organization to be successful, you will need to actively participate. It is up to your organization to
utilize the media support, trainings, matching grants and friendly competitions to which Give! provides
access.
We will train your designated liaisons on how best to mobilize your nonprofit to take advantage of the
platform that Give! provides. They will need to serve as your organization's point people for all things Give!,
including but not limited to checking and responding to emails, participating in at least four mandatory
trainings and, in turn, communicating pertinent information to your entire organization including your board,

staff, volunteers and/or constituencies served.

In return for your commitment, your organization will receive our guarantee that you will garner at least
$2,500 in cash donations, as well as valuable media exposure and staff/board training. If you raise less
than $2,500, the Independent will make up the difference.

You have indicated your understanding of the following:

My organization will need to designate at least two (2) liaisons (staff, board or volunteers),
each of whom can commit at least 10 hours monthly from June - December 2016.

If selected, my organization must sign and return a contract and participation fee ($600
for first-time participants; $1000 for returning participants) no later than June 15, 2016.

Profile information (1/4)

Please provide the following information EXACTLY as you would wish to see it printed in the Give! Guide.
The shorter, sweeter and more specific your copy, the more compelling it proves among donors (not to
mention the participant selection committee). Give! will work with you to edit this information for grammar
and clarity before publication.
Think about what is the most important for you to communicate to a potential supporter learning about
your organization for the first time. How can you persuade them to get involved?
For examples, you can view the 2015 Give! Guide here.

<<Name of organization>>
Are you seeking support for your entire organization, or for a specific project?
Generally, if your nonprofit has a budget of under $500,000/year, it is a best for Give! to support the entire organization. For
nonprofits with budgets in excess of $2 million, it is often best to promote a smaller initiative. Please feel free to brainstorm with Give!
staff if you have questions about which choice would best benefit your organization.

What
Imagine you are in an elevator with a prospective donor. You have 30 seconds to explain what your organization is about. Be succinct
and memorable, focusing on the benefits you provide to communities in Colorado Springs. (420 characters max.)

<<What we do:>>

Why
People give with their hearts, not their calculators. Focus on what is moving about your mission, with secondary emphasis on what
differentiates you from other organizations providing similar services or what makes your approach especially effective or unique.
(420 characters max.)

<<Why were great:>>

Needs
Please focus on volunteer and in-kind needs that will be valid as of Nov. 1, 2016. Be as specific as possible, e.g. a treasurer for our
board, someone to teach basic carpentry, a new 800 SF roof for our barn, a B/W photocopier, etc. (195 characters max.)

<<What we need:>>

Did You Know?

Please provide a succinct statistic or data point that illustrates how your organization makes a difference. The ideal factoid would
make a potential donor say, Gee whiz! I didnt know that. For example: "One out of every five El Paso County women has been the
victim of sexual assault" or "XX percent of the at-risk kids who participate in our 7-12th grade program continue on to college." (165
characters max.)

<<Key factoid:>>

Testimonial
Please provide a quotation from someone who has benefited from your services or can speak specifically to their impact. (165
characters max.)

Category Preference
Every Give! participating organization is placed into a category.

The Give! Campaign is a joint project of the Colorado Springs Independent and the Pikes Peak Community Foundation (PPCF).

<<Your organization name>> 2016 Application

Categories serve a number of purposes for both participants and donors. For participants, categories can
provide a smaller pool of potential nonprofit collaborators as well as friendly competitors for campaignwide challenges. For donors, categories make the number of participants more digestible and help them
discover new-to-them organizations generating community efforts that they love.
Last year, we had 11 categories, but categories for Give! 2016 have not yet been finalized. You can help us
by indicating which three of the following would best reflect the focus of your organization and ranking
them in order of preference.
Final discretion for category placement rests with the Give! team in order to best fit the needs of all
participants. Your final placement will be determined by factors that include adhering to marketing strategy,
creating even distribution and ensuring a level playing field for category-specific competitions. That said,
your preferences are the most heavily weighted factor in determining your organization's category.
For examples of how category designations are used, take a look at the 2015 Give! Guide: goo.gl/QYnGmk

gaining their footing in the community, Give! asks each returning participant to improve upon their success from one year to the next.
