Introduction

Most everyone uses a computer daily, but many don't know how a
computer works or all the different individual pieces that make it up.
In fact, many people erroneously look at a computer and call it a
CPU or a hard drive, when in fact these are just two parts of a
computer. When these individual components are connected
together they create a complete and working device with an allencompassing name of computer. As a computer user it is important
that you have a basic understanding of the core components that
make up your computer.

Safety Precautions on Disassembling the Computer Tower

A few warnings and reminders before you start disassembling your
computer tower to keep both your unit and yourself safe
Fully shut down and unplug the computer before you make any
attempts to disassemble the tower.
Take off any metal objects on your arms or fingers such as bracelets,
rings or watches. Even if your unit is unplugged, there may still be
some remaining electric charge.
Make sure your hands are completely dry to avoid damaging any
mechanical parts as well as to avoid electrocution.
Work in a cool area to avoid perspiration for the same reason as
seen in the previous number.

Before touching any part within the tower, put your hands against
another metal surface (such as the computer casing) to remove
static charge, which may damage sensitive devices.
Prepare a place to keep any screws you may remove. A container or
piece of paper with labels for each part (casing, motherboard, CD

drive, etc) is ideal to avoid confusion between the similar-looking

screws.
Handle all parts with care. Place each piece you remove carefully
down onto a stable surface.
If a component does not come out easily, do not forcefully remove
it. Instead, check that you are removing it correctly and that no
wires or other parts are in the way.
Be careful when holding the motherboard, its underside actually
quite pointy and able to hurt you.
Never attempt to remove the power source, a box attached to the
side or bottom of the unit to which all cables are connected.
When removing any cables, wires or ribbons, make sure to grasp the
wire at the base or head to keep it from breaking.
Be careful not to drop any small parts (particularly screws) into
unreachable areas such as into the computer fan or disk drive.
Take note that the three of the most damaging things to a computer
are moisture (sweat, drinking water), shock (electric or from being
dropped) and dust (any debris from household dust to bits of food).

Steps in Disassembling the

Computer Tower

1. Remove the cover by removing its screws by using a

screw driver, and slide it with a gentle force
2. Remove the adapter cards by grabbing the card by it
edges and back and gently rock it lengthwise to release
3. Remove the data cables, the IDE cables needs better
care while being removed. Gently wiggle the cable
sideways and remove it. Sata Cables can be removed
easily by pressing the tab and pulling the connector
straight back.
4. Remove the Memory Module from the RAM Slots.
Press the locks on both sides of the RAM Slots.
5. Remove the main power supply by rocking it gently.
6. Remove the memory module support by removing its
screws at the back of the tower.
7. Remove the power supply make sure the power
connector is detached from switch board. Start
removing it connected to the MOBO. Now remove the
screws of SMPS from the back of the cabinet.
8. Remove the MOBO. Make sure you memorize the
connectors. Remove the screws from the back of the
MOBO and you will be able to detach it from the cabinet.
9. Remove the CPU fan by twisting the locks and
applying gentle force on it. Remove the CPU fan
connector by grabbing its edge.

10. Remove the CPU. First unlock the CPU socket by

pressing the metal lock. And now remove the CPU from
the CPU socket.
