Workplace Policy & Program on Hepatitis B


1.0

OBJECTIVE

To ensure that the risk associated with Hepatitis B infection is monitored and
appropriate controls are in place so as to prevent transmission and eliminate
spread of the disease.

SCOPE

This procedure applies to all employees of SYNERQUEST in all its offices and
operational areas.

4.0

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES


4.1
SYNERQUEST shall integrate Hepatitis B prevention education in its
Quality, Environment, Safety, and Health (QESH) training, continuing
education and other human resource development programs for its
employees.
4.2
SYNERQUEST shall make available to its employees self-learning
information materials such as booklets, brochures, flyers and tapes on
Hepatitis B prevention and control.
4.3
SYNERQUEST through the VP of Admin shall be responsible for the
implementation of appropriate awareness and education programs about
Hepatitis B to enable employees to protect themselves and others against
Hepatitis B infection.
4.4
SYNERQUEST shall not mandate compulsory Hepatitis B testing for
its employees to guarantee the latters right to privacy. However, any
employee may choose to undergo voluntary Hepatitis B testing, the cost of
which may be charged to the Company. Release of the testing results shall
be in accordance with the attached guidelines (Appendix A).

Cases of Hepatitis B shall be covered by policy and limitations under
the Companys Medical and Dental Services Plan.
4.6
SYNERQUEST shall regard an Hepatitis B infected employee as any
other employee found to be suffering from any other serious
illness/condition, specifically in terms of statutory and Company benefits,
compensation and other available Company services.
4.7
SYNERQUEST shall respond to the changing health status of the
employee by making reasonable accommodation in the workplace for those
infected with Hepatitis B, giving due consideration at all times to the health
and safety of his co-employees.
4.8
SYNERQUEST recognizes the sensitive issues that surround
Hepatitis B and undertakes to handle matters in a discreet and private
manner. Where Hepatitis B infected employee has revealed his/her status to
management, the Company will keep the identity of such person confidential.
