Library Assistant Casual Position

Base hourly rate $ 28.1085 per hour


Bland Shire Council is seeking a Casual Library Assistant to work on the Library circulation desk
and assist library borrowers with a wide variety of tasks such as lending, returning and renewing
library items, new memberships, shelf checks and use of library equipment assisting with
childrens activities and Visitor Information. The successful applicant may be offered shifts across
any of the librarys opening hours, including weekends.
To be successful in this position you will possess the following skill and or experience:

Cert 11 in Library and Information Services or relevant experience


Working With Childrens Check
Thorough knowledge of WHS and EEO policy
Must be flexible and available to work any day
Higher school certificate or equivalent.
Knowledge of the public library environment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Client focus in the provision of customer service.
Experience in manual handling.
Knowledge of WHS & EEO principles and practice.

Primary Objective:
To assist in the effective and efficient provision of library services to residents of the Shire.
Duties. Shall include but not be limited to:
Assist with the delivery of circulation and reference/information services
Provide assistance in the use of information technology
Shelve books and maintain the physical appearance of the library
Process library overdues
Process new library stock
Catalogue and process periodicals
Update media files
Assist with childrens activities and displays
Assist with promotional and marketing activities
Count and balance library monies as required
Dispose of newspapers according to library procedures
Comply with Corporate record keeping requirements
Comply with WHS and EEO policies and procedures
Process ILLs
Maintain visitor information and liaise with appropriate organisations

Key Performance Indicators:


High level of customer satisfaction
Accurate distribution of overdue notices
Periodicals processed within 2 days in accordance with library standards
Library materials processed in accordance with library standards
Displays and promotional material presented in a professional manner
Correct accounting of library monies
Follow Councils policies and procedures
