Letter from the director
Dear ISAM family!

It is hard to believe that we are now entering year 6 at our present location. We have all enjoyed
the benefits of our very comfortable facility and good neighbors! I continue to be inspired by my col-
leagues at ISAM— all wonderful, professional teachers—each immensely and uniquely talented. It has been
a true privilege to work side by side some of the best teachers in Cincinnati—indeed, in the Tri-state area!
Thanks to the outstanding efforts of our students (and their families) and faculty, ISAM is recognized as one of the regions
preeminent Music Academies!

Looking back at 2008, we have much to be thankful for! We said good bye to many graduating seniors, saluting
them as they travel far and wide to the next phase of their lives! I also reluctantly bid farewell to my long time friend
and colleague, Daria Duh. After teaching together for a decade, Daria’s family at home required her full attention. It was
with a sad heart that I accepted her resignation and wished her God’s speed in her challenges ahead. ISAM also says good-
bye to guitarist Chad Fagerland. We remain grateful for his contributions and wish him the greatest success in his many
endeavors! Most worthy of recognition are the many, many accomplishments of our students over the last year, including
those listed on page 2. Congratulations to all on a job well done!
With the current economic climate, ISAM faces the challenges of addressing it’s many needs as well as the needs
of its faculty, clients and students. Though we continually endeavor to keep our costs down, after more than 5 years, it
has become necessary to increase some Fee Schedules. Even with this small increase, ISAM fees remain competitive. It is
my sincere wish that all student may continue their studies as we continue to look for brighter signs on the economic horizon.

As September approaches, I look forward to welcoming this year’s new students and to the ever present freshness
of the new beginning! We welcome two mentoring teachers this year - both from CCM! They are both warm, personable
and inspiring young professionals. Continuing the ISAM tradition, 2009-2010 can look forward to many wonderful events
and performances! ISAM will enjoy the growth of the string program with the addition of the “Developmental Violin Pro-
gram” and ISAM will present the bi-annual “Concerto Concert” in the spring. This year will be our best yet!

My most sincere wishes to all ISAM families, students and faculty for a fabulous year ahead! Sheila Vail
