Acknowledgement
It has been my honor to work and do social internship at Sarim Burney
Welfare Trust.
I am really thankful to Sir Sarim for allowing me to work in his trust
and get the first professional life experience.
I am also really thankful to Mr. Gohar Ali, my supervisor, who was
always there to help me around. He provided me with all the facilities,
which are required to handle this project. Through his experience and
guidance I completed this project smoothly, without facing any trouble.
He and his colleagues were really supportive, which made me complete
my assigned tasks easily.
So, I also want to thank all the staff members of the trust and the people
who were involved in this project with me.

About The Project

The project was mainly focused on public dealing since it was a social
internship, so I was given the task to deal with different people who
come to the trust for any financial aid, legal aid, and other cases.
I was provided with the forms of the trust. The project was to make
entries on the forms about the clients who visited the trust. Initially,
when I was new and I didnt know about how to do the work so I was
assigned to make forms of the files of the lawyers of the trust. The main
source of making these forms is to keep the record of the cases dealt by
each lawyer easily. I was provided with the files of each lawyer and I
started making entries of the name, case issue, and many other details
about the applicants in the forms.
After three weeks of internship, when I learned how to do the work
properly then I was given the chance to deal with the clients directly
who came to the trust. I worked for the legal aid department as well as
the financial aid department of the trust by filling the forms of the new
clients, who are approaching daily to the trust with their issues of khula,
maintenance, return of dowry articles, money for treatment etc. Then I
gave all these forms to my supervisor, who further looked after the
procedure.
This work provided me the chance to get the interaction with different
people, how to deal with their problems, and most importantly how to
convince them that Sarim Burney Welfare Trust will surely help them.

Elaboration of the Process

and Tasks Related to the
Project
The internship commenced on Monday 15th June, 2015. An
inaugural/orientation session was held on the first day, in which I and
other students of some other universities were briefed about our tasks,
responsibilities and duties during the internship period. Also on that day
we were introduced to the attendance system too. That system was also
used by the regular employees of Sarim Burney Trust too. It works by
marking attendance through hand punch and at the same time the
attendance is being recorded by the internship coordinator.
When I came on first day of my internship, I had given a separate room
with the facility of comfortable chairs and a computer system. The
employees of the organization were also very friendly and helpful. The
first week of the internship was about the General Overview of the
organization and correspondence and office work. In this first week, I
had been given the overview about the organization and explained about
the task I had to do. I was also told about the rules and regulations and
the facilities for me in the organization. I was also detailed about how I
should do my work and submit it.
In the first week, I was explained the process of filling the forms by my
supervisor. Initially, I faced many queries in filling the forms. It was
taking too much time for me to fill the forms. But I kept on trying and
second week came. In this week, I was quite satisfied with my work,
because by this time I knew how to do my work. I also got appreciation
from my supervisor, for my improvement. During my first two weeks of
internship, I only worked for the people of legal aid department. I was
9

given the files of the applicants of the lawyers of the trust. I have to
make entries about the details of the applicants to keep in the record of
the trust. There were two kinds of forms for the legal aid issues:
Crime Issue Forms: These forms consist of the details of the applicants,
who has visited the trust for any crime like murder, kidnapping etc.
Civil Issue Forms: These forms consist of the details of the applicants,
who has visited the trust for any civil issue like custody of child, khula,
divorce.
I filled both the forms, but mostly I filled civil issue forms. In civil issue,
majority cases were of khula, which means that women of our society
are really fed up of the atrocity of the men. Therefore, these lawyers help
these women to get them freedom.
In the third week of my internship, I filled the forms of financial aid
issues. These forms consist of the details of the applicants who want
ration or any sort of financial help from the trust. There were no files for
these forms. I have to directly deal with the clients, who daily visited the
trust and then fill the forms. What I noticed while filling these forms is
that majority of the people wanted to have ration. I was really sad when
many women cried in front of me while I was asking about the details to
fill the forms. Some said that their husbands are on bed and no other
person can do jobs for their families and some said that they are really
poor. We should always thank Allah that at least we can eat thrice a day
easily. This I realized when I came to this trust.
During the fourth week of my internship, I filled the forms of adoption
cases. People who wanted to adopt children from the shelter home of the
trust, daily visited and I also filled their forms.
From the fourth week, I also started dealing with the legal aid clients
directly. They came to me and I filled their forms by asking their issues.
Then I handed over these forms of legal aid to the lawyers, who then
directly deal with the clients and try to resolve their issues. There are
10

separate lawyers for separate cases. Some lawyers deal with only civil
issue cases and some deal with only crime cases.

Strategies Related to the

Project
I made several strategies to do my assigned task:
I used to ask the issues of the clients very politely. They sometimes got
really emotional. For example, many women told that their husbands
daily come drunk in the house and they beat them or they had an affair
with some other women. While telling all this, many women used to cry.
I used to listen them calmly and gave them hope that InshaAllah Sarim
Burney Trust will help them.
I also asked the clients to tell each and every aspect of the case, so that
there should not be any hidden point that could go against the client and
it will also be easier for me to write the case details so that the lawyer
can easily understand the case by reading the forms.
Initially, there were same forms for both the cases of legal aid (criminal
and civil). However, I asked my supervisor to make separate forms,
because criminal cases have some other important details like FIR,
which is not there in the civil cases.

Visit to Shelter Home of the Trust

I also visited the shelter home of the trust. There I saw many victimized
women and children, and their needs were taken care of by this trust. I
also saw many disabled people, who have been taken care of by the
volunteers and nurses working in the shelter home. So that their
disability cannot become a hurdle in their social and ethical way of life.
I also saw many newly born children there, who have been thrown by
their parents and many old men and women, who have been thrown out
by their children. Sarim Burney Trust looks after all these people.
I also talked to these people about their lives in this shelter home. They
said that they have given best quality food and all the people working in
the trust look after them and take care of them, but they also said that
they miss their original homes.
I feel that people like Sarim Burney are working for the welfare of our
society, but it is also our duty to make donations for the needy people
living in the shelter home of the trust, so that the work of Sarim Burney
will be easier and these people could also live their lives like normal
persons.

Major Responsibilities
Handled on This Project
Before my internship in this trust, there was no such formality of filling
the forms of the clients. But then I started working and no applicant was
allowed to directly deal their issues with the lawyers unless they first
12

come to me and make me fill their forms. Filling of these forms, made
the work of trust easier, because they can easily keep the records of each
and every client. They can also find their information easily, whenever
they want to do so. It was really difficult to carry hundreds of files of
each lawyer, because each lawyer deals with a different case. For
example, some deal with only criminal cases like murder, kidnapping
and some lawyers deal with civil cases like khula, divorce, and custody
of children. These forms are designed because the files of the clients
contain many extra information which are not necessary for the trust, so
these forms are designed so that only important information like the
name, contact number, residential address, case issue, case number etc of
the clients are kept and also these forms are easy to carry as compared to
thousands of files. These forms, which I filled, also helped in making
entries in computers of the trust easily. The computer department people
can easily find all the information in the forms, and they dont have to
search these files, which is really time consuming.
Another responsibility handled by me was that while filling the forms
and giving them to my supervisor, I made sure that all the forms are
completed. If any information was incomplete, I directly discuss it with
the supervisor. For example, in many files, the contact numbers of the
applicants were not written, then with the help of my supervisor, I got
the contact numbers from the lawyers of the applicants. Contact numbers
are really important so that the administration of the trust and the
lawyers, who are handling their cases, can keep in touch with the clients.
I believe that I handled every responsibility of this project nicely and
Alhamdulillah, I filled more than 5000 forms till the end of my
internship. I got lots of appreciation from my supervisor for the work I
did. Through my internship this form making process has started in the
trust and InshaAllah it will help Sarim Burney Welfare Trust
International.
13

Research Objectives
When I began my social internship, I didnt know anything about law,
since its not my field, but when I came to this organization my
supervisor explained me how to fill the forms. The forms were really
complicated to fill, because they require lots of details for example,
name of the client, his/her father name, his/her case number in the court,
court number, court name (Supreme, City or High), case details,
application of the applicant etc. I really didnt know what the case
number is or what the court number is and many other things. My
supervisor explained me, but still I had problems. Then I started
researching about them through internet and I got aware about all these
things related to law.

Conclusion
I think that my internship at Sarim Burney Welfare Trust was one of the
best practical experience of my life. I learned a lot during my entire time
period of internship. The task assigned to me gave me the chance to deal
with the people and enhance my public dealing skill and convincing
power, which is necessary for a student, who wants to pursue a business
degree. I was also provided with the best facilities to do my work. The
coordinator of the internship was a nice person and used to handle all the
tasks and all the work related to internship in a calm manner.

14

During the entire internship period I also learned a lot about the
organization too. Before this I had a very little knowledge about how
this trust helps people. But after working at this place, I came to know
that all the staff members do their work with dedication in order to serve
humanity.
By daily observing the clients visiting the trust, I also realized that we
should always be thankful to Allah with what we got in our lives. People
face many problems in lives like poverty, problems in the family
relations etc and when they do not find anyone to help them then they
visit the trust. We should remember that the lives which we are living are
much better than many others, so we should never complain about small
things and always thank Allah.

Recommendations
Initially, when I started working in the trust I didnt like the organization
and I thought that this will not be a good working experience for me,
because I was having trouble in co-operating with the environment. This
is because daily I see people crying and begging to help them, but then
my thoughts about the organization changed by observing the dedication
of the employees of the trust to serve humanity. I also found my work
boring, since I have never studied law before, neither I am a law student,
but as the time passed I started taking interest in my work.
I learned a lot about the organization and its employees that daily they
deal with many crime, divorce, financial aid, and many other cases and
try to resolve them as quickly as possible. Before, my internship
experience I didnt know much about this organization. I also came to
knew about the conditions of the poor people through my experience of
public dealing with them.
15

I would like to recommend this place to my fellow juniors who will be

looking to work in an organization for their social internship. Not only
they will do social work there, but will also provide a good contribution
towards the society as well and will learn a lot about this organization
too.
