Assignment

“Dogg-House Radio” Competition Time

Student Name: Alexander Abson

Introduction:
This assignment response sets out the information required by the Dogg-House
Radio Competition Time Criteria.

Having built a dream house at a top secret location DJ H-Dogg needs an

entertainment venue that cost no more than $100,000. A key criteria for the DJ is
that the entertainment structure must “work-in” with the current structure of the
dream house. This is presumably so that the design will meet with necessary
approvals and also maintain or improve the current sale value of the property.

Further, the DJ requires the internal fit-out of the entertainment venue to include
the following:
• An area to rest in;
• Somewhere to wash and refresh;
• Somewhere to get some food; and
• Plenty of space to entertain

Key Assignment Deliverables:

• To show that the design can be built for the available funds of $100,000, a
detailed budget is to be produced for scrutiny by the DJ’s accountant. The
accountant has stipulated a specific work breakdown structure for the
budget.

• At least 7 Plans must be produced that detail the proposed design of the
entertainment venue.

• Various marketing and promotional material for a campaign to attract

patrons to attend a celebrity opening night party.

• In order to communicate the logic behind the design considerations and

final recommendations, research, cost plans and comparative
assessments of materials and goods are to be maintained.

Assignment Response:

The response is structured into 4 parts, Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D, using a
logical set-out to meet the key assignment deliverables, assignment instructions
and marking criteria sheet:

Part A - Budget
The Final Detailed Budget showing that the Entertainment venue, using standard
Building prices and researched costs, can be built within the budget of $100,000.

This Budget contains the necessary work breakdown structure required by the
DJ’s accountant and uses a standard estimating format currently in use in the
Queensland Building Industry.

Part B - Plans
The following plans are provided in accordance with standard technology
department formats.
1. Fully detailed floor plans;
2. All Elevations;
3. A sectional view showing footings, framing, trusses and internal detail;
4. Electrical plan;
5. Plumbing and Drainage plan;
6. Planometric view of the fully detailed main room; and
7. Site plan with a neat sketch of the proposed dwelling and associated
landscaping.

*Where indicated, sections of part B material are submitted as electronic files for
ease of viewing.

Part C – Marketing
Promotional campaign material:
• An A3 sized flyer promoting the night including perspective view of the
final building;
• A mock-up of a web site to promote the night; and
• A4 sheet of paper for mass reproduction and posting in the city at various
locations.

Part D - Research
During development of the design a number of options were considered for the
external and internal components of the proposed Building.

The research contains details of 3 principal options that were assessed and then
refined in accordance with the following decision making criteria:

2|Page
1. Does the external facade of the option for the building match or
complement the existing dream house?
2. Is the cost of the option within the overall budget of $100,000, by
reference to a cost plan (preliminary budget estimate);
3. Does the option contain the minimum internal fit-out required by the DJ?
4. Are the external areas of the proposed building paved or landscaped to
avoid dirt being dragged into the venue by foot traffic?

The research material also contains several internal fit-out sketches and product
information considered in accordance with selecting space saving alternatives
and to meet budget.

D2. General Comment:

The $100,000 budget was discovered to be a key constraint and forced a number
of trade-off’s in order to meet all of the criteria. These trade-offs can be seen
further through comparison of the Cost Plan’s that support each option
(attached).

Primary trade-off’s revolved around the expense necessary to build a facade to

the new structure that would not detract the sale value of the existing “dream
home’ versus allowing the DJ sufficient internal comfort to recover between (or
during) his performances.

XXetc. Write some more key things here Al.

Alex, include all of your research material here but you must talk to me about
the “Cost Plan” stuff.
I have set up a cost plan number 1 using the format needed – have a look.
