2016 Session: Building an economy that works

for all Minnesotans, not just the wealthy few

INVESTING IN KIDS

COLLEGE AFFORDABILITY

The opportunity to succeed is built on a

quality education. If we are to truly tackle
our achievement gap and improve education
outcomes for all of our kids, then we must make
sure all of our children have access to quality
childcare and pre-K education.

The average student graduates in Minnesota

with $31,579 in debt, yet last year Republicans
raised tuition on Minnesota students. We should
make college affordability and student debt
relief a priority by freezing tuition, reducing
the cost of text books, and making it easier for
graduates to refinance their loans.

LONG-TERM TRANSPORTATION SOLUTION

Minnesotans are frustrated by the gridlock on

their highways and the gridlock at the State
Capitol. This is the year we must truly solve our
statewide transportation problem. Minnesotans
deserve a transportation system where they can
safely drive their child to school and get to work.

PAID FAMILY LEAVE

Minnesotans should be able to work and care for
themselves and their families, yet only 13% of
workers currently have access to paid family leave.
Paid family leave and earned sick and safe time
will allow working parents to bond with a newborn
or newly adopted child, and help working family
members care for aging loved ones without undue
financial hardship.

Its time to build an economy that works for all Minnesotans.

BORDER TO BORDER BROADBAND

REDUCE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PRICES

Last year House Republicans ignored important

investments that would create jobs and opportunity
in greater Minnesota. We are fighting to ensure all
Minnesotans have access to high speed Internet,
better roads and bridges, and good paying jobs so
that Minnesotans can succeed regardless of where
they live.

The high cost of health care and prescription drugs

remains one of the largest sources of anxiety for
Minnesota families. We should work to reduce
health care cost and improve care for Minnesotans
by putting more power in the hands of Minnesota
consumers as opposed to powerful prescription drug
manufacturers and big insurance companies.

BUDGETING WITHOUT GIMMICKS

GET DARK MONEY OUT OF POLITICS

After a decade of deficits, the DFL-led legislature

passed a responsible balanced budget that paid
back all the money that was borrowed from schools.
Now, we have a $900 million surplus and a sturdy
budget. The Republican budget plan jeopardizes our
states stable budget. Their plan includes $2 billion
in tax giveaways and uses shifts and gimmicks that
would put us back into deficit.

Millions of dollars in campaign spending by special interest groups much of it undisclosed is drowning out
the voices of ordinary Minnesotans. We should pass the
The Minnesota DISCLOSE (Democracy is Strengthened by
Casting Light on Spending in Elections) Act , a constitutional amendment that would shine a light on the dark
money spent in elections, guaranteeing voters a right to
know who is paying to influence their vote.

Its time to build an economy that works for all Minnesotans.
