MILD STEEL WELDING ELECTRODES

SALIENT FEATURES:

Quiet, soft and steady arc with easy strike and restrike.

Removal of cold slag is practically automatic.

The electrode provides excellent performance on A.C. as well as D.C. (+/-)

Weld metal transfer uniform with fine ripples and smooth shining bead.

Ideal electrode for all welding positions.

APPLICATIONS:

Ideally suited for welding mild steel, structural steels, steel furnitures, truck bodies, window frames
and grills, storage tanks, machineries, conctruction, auto parts, bridges, wagons, shiphulls, barges rail
coaches, building structures, vessels, agricultural implements and tanks etc.

PRECAUTIONS:

Store electrodes in dry place.

For best results re dry electrodes at 80o C for half an hour.

To get sound properties use short arc.

Parent metal should be free from rust, oil, grease and moisture to avoid cracking of weld.

Avoid moist or greasy handling of electrodes.

CURRENT CONDITION:

AC or DC(+/-)

A medium coated, rutile type electrode, for general purpose welding of structural steels, it is suitable for
all welding positions including verticle downwards. The electrode produces a smooth clean deposit with
very little spatter and the slag is easy to remove. The weld metal is soft, ductile and defect free, provide
sound mechanical properties.

Technical Report

(AWS A5.18 ER70S-G)

TGS-50

TGS-50 is a versatile TIG welding solid wire with

excellent usability and mechanical properties used
for both mild steel and 490N/mm2 high tensile steel.
Users will also find the mechanical properties
approved for shipping registers to be reliable.

Basic Characteristics of TGS-50

TGS-50 is a solid wire designed specifically for TIG
welding. It is classified as AWS A5.18 ER70S-G. As
seen in the classification the minimum tensile strength
of the deposited metal is 70 kilo-pound per square inch
or 490N/mm2. TGS-50 uses the DC-EN (DC Electrode
Negative) polarity and pure argon gas for shielding.

What Qualities of TGS-50 Do Engineers

and Welders Evaluate Excellent?
(1) The use of TGS-50 provides less slag generation
and better fusion in root pass welding of pipes in all
positions, which results in very smooth penetration
beads with a regular weld ripple. This usability is
advantageous in welding process piping where stricter
X-ray soundness is required - .
Fig. 1 - TGS-50 is very advantageous in the root pass
welding of the process piping in all positions due
to unsurpassed usability.
Fig. 2 - Typical tensile strength of the TGS-50 deposited
metal as a function of PWHT
Fig. 3 - The Charpy impact test results of the TGS-50
deposited metal

(3) The use of TGS-50 provides a quite high level of

absorbed energy in Charpy impact tests over a range of
testing temperatures - . This is why TGS-50 is
also used for low-temperature applications at down to
minus 40.

(2) The use of TGS-50 assures excellent tensile

strength in both as-weld and PWHT (postweld heat
treatment) conditions. The TGS-50 weld metal keeps its
tensile strength in a high level even after a long-hour

PWHT - . This is why TGS-50 is suitable for

multi-pass welding of pressure components with thick
sections by using a mechanized welding process.
