Brochure
Description:

This is a brochure created in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign informing and persuading
people to buy Sunnies Sunglasses

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Visual Media Section 02
Benjamin Pingel

Date:

March 26th, 2016

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was first, to create a new logo in adobe
illustrator for the comapny. Second, was to design a brochure
layout in InDesign for the company

PROCESS:

The programs I used to create this brochure were, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. I stared
with illustrator by creating a logo. Then I used photoshop to edit all of the photos that I used
throughout my design. I used the quick selection tool and the refine edge tool in Photoshop on the
sunglasses so I could make a cut out; that way I could put them anywhere I wanted in my brochure.
I then went into InDesign and set up the formatting and the guides so that I would be able to
design my brochures correctly. I used indesign to create my brochure and implement all of the work
I had done from with the other programs. I printed the brochure out at AlphaGraphics in Rexburg.
I printed it about 4 times until I got it right, then I cut the edged and folded it.

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for these projects was to create logos for the companies that I created. My goal
was to create professional looking logos that could be used for a real company

PROCESS:

This was a really fun project to do because I am actually starting a small company with my
cousin and naming it Anything Antiques. I started by drawing some designs and then I took
those ideas in to Adobe Illustrator and started designing. I wanted to create three very different designs in order to see what design best fit the character of the company. I wanted the
colors to be bright but still rustic so that it would cater to a big variety of people and still look
sophisticated.

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was to choose a color scheme, and ake a photo to match those
colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout

PROCESS:

I started by taking pictures of my roommate and planning my color scheme. I chose a picture
that had the best light, focus, and composition. Then I put that photo into photoshop and
played with the levels, vibrance, sharpen, and selective color. By doing this my picture was able
to stand out a lot more than before it was edited. Once I finished editing my picture, I added
color swatches to my design. I decided that I would add the same design of the color swatches as
my second design element. I thought this tied it all together and made a smooth simple looking
design. I used the eye dropper tool to make sure all of my colors matched for the color scheme I
was trying to follow. I wanted to keep my design simple so that my audience could focus on the
picture and the I Am A Mormon title.

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was to code a website, in the progam named Text wrangler, to
display and discuss how I created a logo.

PROCESS:

I created this website in TextWrangler. I hadnt coded HTML or CSS before so this was a new
experience for me! However, I was excited for this new opportunity to learn.
I first started with HTML code to get all of the foundation of my website created. I then
linked a code CSS file so that I was able to start polishing my design. I decided that I would
insert a picture in the background of an old record player so that it would make my website
stand out and continue with the antique tone. I changed the body background to cream to the
white didnt seem so harsh. I then changed the fonts and their colors to brown to tie into the
monochromatic color scheme.

Montage
Description:

A spiritual montage made by blending two or more images together

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Visual Media Section 02

Date:

February 14th, 2016

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was to create a montage to display a spiritual message of my choosing

PROCESS:

I first started by thinking of a scripture I wanted to use in my design. Once I found my scripture I
thought of the message I wanted to send to my audience. I then found the images that would help
me accomplish this. I started my design, in Adobe Photoshop, by cropping my background image of
the women and children to 8.5 x 11. I added the picture of Christ on top and blended it so that you
couldnt tell where the picture starts of stops.I placed these pictures in this way to make my design
flow. Then I added the text of my scripture, and I decided to make some of the words bigger and
grey to add repetition to my design.

Event Ad
Description:

A color, full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraising event for astronomy research, A Night
Under the Stars using only Microsoft Word

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Visual Media Section 02

Date:

January 30th, 2016

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was to use Microsoft Word to create a professional flier for
an event

PROCESS:

First, I scanned the image. I then put the picture into Microsoft Word, and used it for the
whole background of the ad. I downloaded new fonts for the title and body copy. I picked
these fonts because I thought they matched the message that I wanted to be received; a light,
fun night. I changed the word under in my title and some body copy to a light gold color,
in order to add a sense of repetition and to make it stand out. I never knew all the things the
were possible in Microsoft word; it was a good experience to learn more about it.

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was to use programs, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator to
create a letterhead to match some business card I made for my photography business

PROCESS:

For this project I used Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator in order to create a clean and
simple design for my companys business card and letter head. I started by creating my logo
in illustrator. I just did something simple with my initials. I wanted my design to be bright so I
picked a monochromatic color scheme with a light teal color. I used the same design elements in
my letter head to tie my business card and letter head together.

Flier
Description:

This is a flier to promote a Graduate Leadership Conference

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Visual Media Section 02

Date:

January 23rd, 2016

OBJECTIVES:

The objective for this project was to use the program Adobe InDesign to create a flier for a
Graduate Leadership Conference

PROCESS:

The process consisted of many steps. The first step was to create at least four sketches of different design layouts that could work for the message you are trying to send. I then picked a design
I thought would be the most interesting and effective in portraying my message and I started to
create it in Adobe InDesign. The first thing I wanted my audience to see, was the title of the flier,
Graduate Leadership Conference and when, where and what time the event was taking place. I
put a light grey box behind this information so that it would have more contract against the white,
making it stand out more than the other information. I then added lines underneath my title to add
even more of an attention grabbing factor. I used repetition by using this same element on the top
and bottom of the informational text. Once my audience saw the title, time and place, my purpose
was for the flow of my design to take them to the picture. I picked this picture because the boy on
the left is taller which draws your eye to him and then the girl who is shorter standing in front of
him, which would then lead them to the information about the event. I think my design has a good
gestalt factor because all of the elements of my design work together to make sense as a whole.
