Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To create a fun, bright logo for a fictional smoothie
shop.
Process: I started by finding a fun font and making it big and thick.
I then got rid of the letter U and used the pen tool to draw a cup
and replaced the U with it. I found another fun font that went well
with the first and placed it underneath. I finished my design by
adding a simple sun above the text to capture the name of the company.

Description: A business card design for the logo I created.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: February 28, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To catch the attention of young avid drinkers of
delicious smoothies and make them want to try ours.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create my logos and my business card. I wanted to make the cards as colorful as the logos, so I
added blocked colors to my card and put the contact information
in simple black on white background so it was easy to read. I added
some extra detail with the contact icons and the QR code. I wanted
to keep it bright, but clean and simple.

Project 6:
Stationery
Description: Letterhead for the use of the business I created.
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: February 28, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Help advertise the company through fun letterhead.
Process: I used Adobe InDesign to create my letterhead. I took the
fullsize sun from my logo and changed the opacity to 27% and put
it down in the bottom left corner of the page. I shrunk my logo and
put it at the top left, put my contact info at the top right and finished with a simple line below the business information.

Project 4: Montage
Description: An inspirational montage created by blending three
images together and a final touch of typography.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: February 14, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To create an inspirational montage to bring some light
to the viewers life.
Process: My background image is the man standing in the water. I
cropped it down to 8.5x11 and placed the photo of the Aurora Borealis on top of it. I created a layer mask on that layer and painted
black over it, making the bottom disappear. I decided I wanted
more stars visible, so I put another photo on top of that, changed
the layer setting to lighten, created a layer mask and painted away
the stars from the water. I also changed the opacity of the brush
and painted over the Aurora Borealis so the green would be more
prominent. I finished by typing out the text and finding two fonts
that worked well together.

Project 1: Flier
Description: Promotional flier for the Vouant Communications
Graduate Leadership Conference.
Programs: Adobe InDesign
Date: January 23, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To advertise the leadership conference in an effective
and visually appealing way.
Process: I started by sketching a few ideas onto paper and decided
on this design. I used young, fun fonts to attract graduates and the
repeating grey and black bubbles to tie everything together. I made
the photo of the young people laughing the focal point so the audiences eyes would be drawn to the excitement first.

Project 3:
PhotoDesign
Description: A photograph with simple Photoshop editing.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop
Date: February 6, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To match a photograph with an inspiring quote and
create a pleasing design with basic Photoshop skills.
Process: This picture has a natural split-complementary color
scheme (blue, orange, gold) and I enhanced it by doing some
simple Photoshop editing (levels, vibrance levels, selective color).
I found an excellent quote that I felt captured the images purpose
and placed it at the bottom with effective typography. I used the
eye-dropper to find a background color in the first tree. To get the
old and worn effect thats around the image, I created a layer mask
and used the rough round bristle paint brush to paint away the
edges.

Project 8:
Brochure
Description: Duplex folding brochure for a fictional company.
Programs: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
Date: March 27, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To produce an exciting and interactive brochure to
advertsie the fictional smoothie company.
Process: I set up two pages and started with the outside. I wanted to
keep it simple and fresh, so I used basic geometric shapes throughout the design. I put my logo in the center to bring attention to it. I
created a short intro to the brochure on the front to entice readers
to open it up and read more. On the inside of the brochure, I kept
the simple geometric design and added little banner wings to the
side subtitles to add a little extra detail. I placed a pineapple which
I edited out the background in Photoshop in the center to focus on
the fact that we love fresh fruit and had the text wrap around it for
visual effect.

Project 2: Event Ad

Description: A full-bleed color event ad using only Microsoft Word

and a scanner.
Programs: Microsoft Word
Date: January 31, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To advertise a charity auction using basic editing
software.
Process: I scanned the image from a magazine and opened it up in
Microsoft Word. The photo was large enough to spread across the
whole page. From there I added the text above the lamp and then
added the details on the bottom. To add extra contrast, I added an
almost-transparent background to the text box with white text.

Project 7: Webpage

Description: A website designed to showcase the logo I made.

Programs: Simple text editor.
Date: March 11, 2016
Course: COMM130-06
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: To create a visually appealing website to showcase the
logo I made for my fictional business.
Process: I made this website by writing code into a simple text editor on my computer. We were given a pre-coded CSS document,
so it was easy to make little alterations to change colors and fonts
to what I wanted. I found the colors I wanted by using the Inspect
option in Google Chrome. It shows all the code for the website and
will find the hex codes for colors that are on the page. You cant see
this in the screenshot, but the my blog link has an orange background color when you hover over it and the link is white.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: March 31, 2016
Course: ART130 - Graphic Design
Instructor: Roger Nichols
Objectives: To create a visually appealing logo for a fictional fox
themed cafe.

FOX TROT CAFE

and bakery

Process: I used the pen tool for most of the design. I took a classic

theme of the cafe. I finished by finding simple fonts that went well
together and put the name of the cafe at the bottom.
