Web Page Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: March 11, 2016
Programs: Illustrator, Photoshop,
HTML, CSS

Description: A web page to effectively display my

personally created logo.

Objetives: Write content to describe the process

of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target
audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML
and CSS.

Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to design my logo

and choose the color scheme for it. I used the pen tool,
pathfinder tool, as well as the circle and square tools to
create my dragonfly. I also focused on the typography
and made sure that I created the right mood to fit my
company. For my background photo, I placed it in
Photoshop and used a layer mask to move the picture
to the corner and fill in the rest with black. This way
it would show in my web page. As I created this site I
focused a lot on alignment with my logo and dragonfly
image as well as the text.

Logo Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: February 23, 2016
Programs: Illustrator

Description: A logo that I designed for a small,

fancy caf.

Objetives: Create three original logos to fit a

company or personal image that will appeal to the

audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous
designs. Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw
your logos. Refine one logo with variations for color.

Process: I used Illustrator to create this logo. I used

the rectangle and ellipse tools to design the dragonfly. I

also used the line tool and text tool to design my fonts
and their placements.

Letterhead

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: February 28, 2016
Programs: InDesign, Illustrator

Description: This is a project to show that I can

effectively design a letterhead and a matching
businesscard based off of a logo I created.

Objetives: Use the basic tools in Illustrator &

InDesign. Use the logo to design a consistent layout
for a letterhead. Apply typography rules, keeping small
copy. Keep designs simple with light watermarks and
drop shadows and plenty of white space. Include
contact information: name, address, phone, website,
and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces
in phone number; no parentheses/hyphens.

Process: I used the InDesign program to create

these compositions. I used the placement tool, the text

tool, the color tool, and the gradient tool. For these
designs I used the Unify and Contrast skills the most
from the FOCUS tool. I unified my compositions by
giving them the same theme based off of my logo. I used
contrast by making each design and set up slightly
different to add interest.

Photodesign Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: February 6, 2016
Programs: Photoshop

Description: This is a photoshop project to show

off my skills as a photographer working
with photoshop.

Objetives: Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those

colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then
download it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color
balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE
(non-destrutive editing.) Use layers to design text, and
repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Process: For the process of this project, I had to

take a high-quality picture with lots of white space.

After that, I needed to choose a color scheme and
colors within the scheme. To do this, I focused on the
colors already displayed within my photo and based my
color choices off of that. Then I began using Photoshop
to create the text boxes and rectangles to develop my
design. I focused a lot on the alignment of my words as
well as contrast in my design in order to create
interest from the FOCUS principles.

Event Ad Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: January 31, 2016
Programs: Microsoft Word

Description: This is an advertisement for a

Rescue Horse Auction.

Objetives: Comprehend image sizing (how

pixels and inches work together). Find, scan and

import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed
design. Choose a color scheme and typeface(s)
that work for your message and audience. Learn
to use only Word design features without using
any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process: To build this ad, I used the

Microsoft Word program and I used the text

box tool to create my design. I used the
alignment and contrast FOCUS principles to
create unity and contrast to my composition.

Brochure Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: March 27, 2016
Programs: Illustrator, InDesign,
Photoshop

Description: A double-sided brochure folded

in thirds.

Objetives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded

document. Create an original, new logo and use it in a

brochure. Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at
least four quality images, not including the logo. One
should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in
InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the
image. Write at least 250 words of original copy in at
least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders. Trim
for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process: I designed my logo on Adobe Illustrator. I

used the line tool, ellipse tool, pen tool, direct

selection tool, and the color tool. I then used InDesign
to create my brochure. I used the ruler guides to help
me line the images as well as to see where I needed to
fold my brochure. I also used the text, text wrap, and
rectangle tools to design my text boxes as well as the
placement of my text. I also used Photoshop to use a
layer mask in order to only show the parts of the images
on my brochure that are relevant to my design.

Flier Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: January 22, 2016
Programs: InDesign

Description: In the designing process for this

project, I decided to create an original and unique piece
of work in the form of a flier.
Objetives: Apply the design principles and use

appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign

skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and
logo from links on this page. Create a project folder
with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links
in InDesign intact.

Process: I used InDesign to create this flier. I found

the rectangle tool to be very helpful in creating the

circles for the theme of my design and I also used the
type tool to create my text boxes in order to organize
my work. Throughout my design I used the contrast and
unify principles from FOCUS. The contrast is used
mainly on the words through their colors, changing
from black, to white, to gray. I unified my theme by
balancing my flier with the same shapes being repeated
throughout my design.

Montage Project

Instructor: Brother Judkins

Course/Section: COMM 130-06
Date: February 13, 2016
Programs: Photoshop

Description: An inspirational quote displayed on

a well designed montage.

Objetives: Use the FOCUS design process with

strong focal point and flow. Unify a layout with a

consistent theme and dominant spiritual message.
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually,
using masks. Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop
skills for layout with multiple elements. Use a mask to
apply a filter to one part of the image. Apply typography
principles. Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title
with varying text size. Select good quality images.

Process: I used Photoshop to create this

composition.Process: I selected the girl with the lasso
and moved her to the background image. I blended the
image of the girl into the background image. I repeated
the process with the image of the boy at the top of the
mountain and used the layer mask to blend it with the
background image. I then used the curve tool to lighten
the image of the boy in order to help with the overall
blend of the complete composition. Finally, I used the
text and color tool to design my message.
