The Change Alliance

Who we are and what we do

The Change Alliance is a global learning
alliance on change processes in complex
contexts. These processes may vary, for
example from improving food production and
marketing systems in Ethiopia to a multi-
stakeholder approach to local service delivery
around Lake Victoria in East Africa, improving
water governance in the Mekong region, or
enhancing global level dialogue on water
issues.
The Change Alliance has two main activities:
1. Increasing the effectiveness of multi-
stakeholder processes by strengthening the
capacities of those involved.
2. Advocating strategic use of multi-actor
engagement and dialogue in development.
Both activities are directed at achieving
broader impact on development of policy,
practice and leadership.
The Alliance works through strategic level
forums and responding to specific requests
to support or engage in policy processes. By
linking a set of regionally based action
inquiry initiatives (action sites) with a
global learning platform, the members of
the Alliance both support and learn from
these initiatives. Together they develop
their professional capacities and those of
others, leading to improved development
practice.

The Change Alliance has a wide range of partners, which makes it possible to approach
change processes from different perspectives. The partners vary from local to
international, research centres to non-governmental, and from content-driven to process

 Action Inquiry Initiatives
The Change Alliance engages with new or
established multi-stakeholder processes
in which partners are involved. Through
access to expertise and knowledge,
financial support and a practitioner
network, the Change Alliance can
strengthen and improve such initiatives.
The Change Alliance enables them to be
developed, implemented and reflected
upon with a depth and quality otherwise
not possible. The contribution from the
Change Alliance may include:
• Providing access to a pool of
experienced process experts and
facilitators who can offer practical
guidance and support on process
design
• Assisting with capacity development
and training support
• Assisting with setting up and
supporting an ongoing process of
reflection and learning within the
initiative
• Access to web-based knowledge
resources and a process management
‘help-desk’
• Linking the initiatives with experts
and into wider learning processes
with the Alliance partners

Global Learning Platform
