Based upon our previous experience, we. also developed connections and specified the minimum size
weld required in order to adequately transfer the design
stresses through the connection. Experience has shown
that arbitrarily increasing welds from heavy fillet welds
to full penetration welds and indiscriminate use of full
penetration welds can be a poor practice. T h e larger the
amount of weld material deposited, the greater the
chances of having thru-thickness lamellar tearing.
