Loving Our

GOVERNMENT
Leaders
WE have to REACHOUT to our
Government LEADERS by praying
evangelistically!
1 TIMOTHY 2:1-4
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and
prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be
made on behalf of all men, for kings and all
who are in authority, in order that we may
lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness
and dignity. This is good and acceptable in
the sight of God our Savior, who desires
all men to be saved and to come to
the knowledge of the truth.”
THE HILIGAYNON BIBLE:

“Karon, una sa tanan, nagapangabay ako

sa inyo nga ipangamuyo ninyo ang
tanan nga mga tawo. Dalha ninyo sa
Dios ang inyo mga pangabay para sa ila
nga may pagpasalamat.
THE HILIGAYNON BIBLE:
Ipangamuyo ninyo ang mga hari kag ang
tanan nga may mataas nga
katungdanan sa gobyerno agod nga
mangin matawhay ang aton
pagpangabuhi kag hilway kita sa
pagsunod sa Dios sa husto nga
pagginawi. Maayo ini nga himuon
kag malipay ang Dios nga aton
Manluluwas.
THE HILIGAYNON BIBLE:

Kay gusto niya nga ang tanan nga mga

tawo maluwas kag makahibalo sang
kamatuoran.”
• Prayer is FIRST
• Prayer is PRIORITY
• Prayer must be primary in
touching people, both high and
low.
1 TIMOTHY 2
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and
prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be
made on behalf of all men, for kings and all
who are in authority …”
• We are to pray EVANGELISTICALLY
for those who are in authority!
• FOR US to be living right.
• FOR US to be living in PEACE …
• And FOR THEM to be SAVED
and live out TRUTH.
1 TIMOTHY 2:1-4
“... in order that we may lead a tranquil and

Do you know WHO CAME TO
KNOW GOD personally as a
government officials in the
Bible?

Note the common vocation amongst the following
conversions in the Book of ACTS:

➤THE ETHIOPIAN EUNUCH,

THE TREASURER OF CANDICE, THE QUEEN OF
ETHIOPIA (8:27)
➤CORNELIUS THE CENTURION, A MILITARY
LEADEROF 100 MEN (10:17)
➤BLASTUS, THE KING’S CHAMBERLAIN (12:20)
➤SERGIUS PAULUS, A ROMAN PROVINCIAL
GOVERNOR (13:7)
➤THE PHILIPPIAN JAILER (16:27)
➤DIONYSIUS, THE AREOPAGATE JUDGE (17:34)
➤PUBLIUS, THE GOVERNOR OF MALTA (28:7)
It is insightful to note that Luke is writing Acts
for “Theophilus” (cf. Acts 1:1).

In that he calls him “most excellent” a title used

to address governors (cf. Acts 23:26; 24:3;
26:25), it is quite possible that Luke
is writing this account, as well as
the gospel of Luke (cf. Luke 1:3)
for the purpose of persuading a
governmental leader to come
to faith in Christ.
This would explain why over one-
half of the individual conversion
accounts recorded in the
book of Acts involve
politically-related people!
“How to love your nation”
• It is a gift from God to be Part of a nation.
By simply praying is one way of showing our love for
our nation. Pray that God will touch every heart of
the people to produce godly and righteous leaders.
Being part of a mission trip is also our way of
showing our love for the nation.
Sharing the Word of God can open the eyes
of the people to see the truth of God’s Word.
Through this, we can live in peace with our
fellowmen in Christ our Lord.

“How to love your nation”
• It is never a mistake that I am a Filipino and I love it.
For me the best way to show love to my nation is to
show love himself – JESUS.
• Spreading the love of Jesus to every corner of my
country, even outside of my comfort zone would be
my idea of how to show real love.
• I can never give in full but I know Jesus can!

5 STEPS in picking
your CANDIDATE
5 STEPS in picking your CANDIDATE

Step 1.
Decide what issues matter to you and what
qualities you want to see in your candidate.
By voting based on a clear idea of
what we want government to
address, and on what sort leaders we
want, our elections become truly
meaningful exercises of our
sovereign will ratherthan just shallow
popularity contests.
Ask Yourself:
What do I want the government to do?

Address poverty and unemployment?

Improve the peace and order
situation?
Maintain the status quo?
What qualities should my leaders
have?

Intelligence?
Honesty and Integrity?
Good looks?
5 STEPS in picking your CANDIDATE

Step 2.
Learn everything you can about the
candidates. It is very easy to be swayed
by appearances. To make sure that you
are not misled, be more discerning.
Take the effort to know as much as
you can about the candidates .
Look closely at each candidate’s
campaign materials and position
papers on various issues.
Watch televised debates – attend if
possible – and listen to radio
interviews of candidates; watch their
television guestings.
Do you think they’re spending too
much on their campaigns?
Are they tackling issues or are they
just focusing on image and
appearances?
5 STEPS in picking your CANDIDATE

Step 3. Do you agree with what the

candidates stand for? Evaluate the
candidates’ stands on various issues.
Do you agree with them? Try to listen to
opposing views; sometimes, when we
listen to contrary opinions, we are
better able to determine
our own position.
What is your impression of the
candidates after hearing all they
have to say?
Do you agree with the positions
they take?
Do you think that you and your
community will benefit from the
candidates’ positions?
5 STEPS in picking your CANDIDATE

Step 4.
What kind of leader will each candidate be?
Trying to forecast what kind of leader a person
will be can be tricky, so study the candidates
and ask yourself:
Who seems to be the most prepared
for the position being contested?
.
Who has the best background for
the job?
Who seems to be the most willing and
able to defend his platforms and
proposed programs?
5 STEPS in picking your CANDIDATE

Step 5.
Review the info you have and DECIDE.
Go over all the information you have
collected on the candidates, and ask
yourself:
Which candidate’s views on the
issues do I agree with the most?
Who is running the fairest campaign?
Which candidate demonstrates the
most knowledge on the issues?
Which candidate has the leadership
qualities I’m looking for?

5 STEPS on how to
EE cast your VOTE!
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE

Tip # 1:
Know your precinct assignment
ahead of election day.
Ask for help. Visit and pray.
Drive through … why not?
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE

Tip # 2:
Make a "kodigo:" a list of the candidates
you want to vote for. This will help
reduce the time you spend at the polling
place and ensure that you won't
forget anyone you want to vote for!
POWER TIP – number code :-)
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE
Tip # 3:
• COMELEC / SMARTMATIC-TIM would be
providing special ballot markers to each
precinct, which will be used for the voting
process. The Automated Counting Machine
can accommodate pencil marks, but for
reasons of securing the process (as pencil
marks can be erased and replaced),
black markers will be used.
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE

• NOTE:
Pencil marks are editable, and
therefore not recommended.
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE
HOW SHOULD THE BALLOTS BE SHADED?
• OVALS should be shaded fully!
• Marks are evaluated based on a COMELEC defined
sensitivity-level. For example, a half-shade (filling
half of an oval) will be evaluated by the Automated
Counting Machine whereas a dot would not. This
protects against accidental marking of an oval.
Furthermore, the practice of shading an oval
completely shows that the voter is actively
and with full intention selecting the
candidate of their choice.
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE

Tip # 4:
Get our ID card ready even though you don't have to
present an ID unless you're identity or eligibility to
vote is challenged. Better safe than sorry!
The ID card you use doesn't have to be a COMELEC-
issued voter ID. You can use any picture ID
such as your company or school ID,
a driver's license, or a passport.
5 TIPS on How to Efficiently and
Effectively CAST your VOTE

Tip # 5:
Come to the polling places early,
cast your vote and
avoid loitering in the polling center.
Billy Graham once commented:
"In a world that might say one vote
doesn't matter..., it does matter
because each person is of infinite
worth and value to God...
Your vote is a declaration of
importance as a person and a citizen.

IT REPRESENTS YOU …
IT IS YOUR PRAYER …
IT IS YOUR VOICE …
“PRAYER for the NATION”

Heavenly Father, we come before Your very throne as

we bring our nation, the Philippines. We thank You
Father, that among all the nations of the earth, You
have chosen us to be in the Philippines.
We thank you that as a nation, where we are right now
is exactly where You want us to be.
We thank you Oh Lord that You are ever faithful,
that You have never forgotten our nation.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

We confess that we have become unfaithful and

faithless before You, still You have not turned Your
back on us. We thank You for Your amazing grace for
the Philippines.
Many times, we have grieved Your Spirit and now
Father, we are seeking repentance as a nation.
For the many times we have faltered,
we are asking for Your forgiveness.
For the times we have tolerated impurity,
we say sorry Lord.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

As, we bring our nation to You, we also pray for the

Salvation of the lost. We pray for Divine
appointments among families, in campuses,
communities and in every corner of this nation, from
Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We declare oh God,
that the gospel be preached in this nation.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

Also, we bring to You the spiritual awakening among

believers in this nation. We pray that we will not
remain to be nominal Christians, but that we will rise
up for the Truth that is within us, for the Truth who
has saved us, the Truth who is Jesus. We pray that as
Christ followers, we will influence and impact this
nation towards Godliness, towards the passion
for purity and towards the pursuit of God.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

Oh Lord, we also surrender before You our government.

We pray that corruption will be totally exposed and
trampled down in our nation. We pray that You shake
our government Oh Lord, so that only the
unshakeable will be left. We even thank You Father,
for the assurance that even though there are a lot of
things in a man’s heart,
still it is Your plan that would prevail in the
coming May 10, 2010 elections.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

We thank You that we are assured that You shall come

to visit us during the election time. You will be the
one to guide and guard our votes, for the glory of
Your name.
Thank you Father, that as you continue to work and
awaken our nation, our fathers shall see dreams and
our generation shall see visions of your will,
your ways and your plans for the Philippines.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

We also pray for the Unity among all Christian

churches, that we will come together as we come to
the knowledge and the obedience of the Great
Commission. We declare that this nation will not only
settle as a Soul winning nation but as
a Disciple Sending nation to the ends of the earth.
“PRAYER for the NATION”

To you Father, we surrender this nation. To You belong

all the glory, honor, praise and adoration! In your
mighty name we trust and pray.

Amen.
Prayer for the COMELEC
18 April 2010 Prayer for the COMELEC
Father,
You said in your word that “righteousness exalts a
nation but sin is a disgrace to any people”. I bring to
you right now the men and women of the COMELEC,
not only in Bacolod City, not only in Negros but in
the Philippines as a whole.
Prayer for the COMELEC

Grant them your righteousness that will exalt and

uplift this nation. Give them your zeal and passion to
dispense their duty without fear or favour, not to
fear man but to fear God from whom all authority
emanates. Remind them that all power emanates
from Heaven, and to use this privilege and
responsibility with utmost care and caution.
Prayer for the COMELEC

Grant them the wisdom and courage to walk in

integrity, and to exercise fairness and impartiality in
all its dealings. May it be true to its calling and
mandate which is “to render free, orderly, honest,
peaceful and credible electoral processes” in all
levels. This is what every Filipino aspires
and longs for. This is what every Filipino
deserves.
Prayer for the COMELEC
Just as we pray that the sanctity of the ballot be
protected, we also pray for the welfare and
protection of all COMELEC personnel and teachers
this coming elections. Protect them from all harm,
pressure, intimidation and harassment so that they
can provide clean and transparent elections.
Prayer for the COMELEC

It is our declaration that on May 10, 2010, it will truly

be the representative will of the people that will
prevail. We pray right now for a double portion of
your spirit and anointing to fill our COMELEC
personnel, officials and teachers who will be serving
on that day.
Prayer for the COMELEC
Finally, just as the apostle Paul gave this instruction
to Timothy, “In the presence of God and of Christ
Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep
these rules without prejudging, doing nothing from
partiality.”

This is our prayer, In Jesus name , AMEN.

DECLARATION

I believe in the almighty purpose and plan for me to be

a Filipino. Thus, I declare that I love my country. I
will submit to governing authorities knowing that its
God who appoints them. By God’s grace, I will be
wise in choosing my leaders all this for love of God
and the love of my country.
