Sorbogel
The gel that protects keeps moisture away and gives outstanding performance!

Silica Gel
Originally developed during World War II
to keep penicillin dry, silica gel remains
the highest capacity adsorbent available today.
Not a "Gel" as commonly thought of, and not to
be confused with "silicon Gel", silica gel is a
porous, granular form of silica,
synthetically manufactured from sodium silicate.

Silica gel is widely used throughout the world for moisture protection in industries,
process plants, utility services and domestic use.

Internal Structure
The internal structure of each small silica gel granule is composed of a vast network of
inter-connecting microscopic pores, which attract and hold moisture by a phenomena
known as physical adsorption and capillary condensation.( A single teaspoon of
Hydrosorbent Silica Gel has an internal adsorptive area equivalent to a football field,
including the two end zones!)
Hydrosorbent Silica Gel is inert, non-toxic and safe to use to protect foods, medicines,
sensitive materials, electronics, films, etc. Even when saturated with adsorbed moisture,
silica gel looks and feels dry to the touch.
Silica gel is silicon dioxide (SiO2). It is a naturally occurring mineral that is purified and
processed into either granular or beaded form.
As a desiccant, it has an average pore size of 24 angstroms and has a strong affinity for
moisture molecules. The silica gel will pull in moisture at temperatures up to 220F (105C).
As temperature goes above 100F, the rate of moisture pick-up will slow down but the
silica gel will still work. Silica gel performs best at room temperatures (70 to 90F) and
high humidity (60 to 90% RH) and will drop the relative humidity in a container down to
around 40% RH.
In the United States, silica gel is commonly used in food and pharmaceutical applications
as only silica gel has been approved by the FDA for direct contact with these items.

Indicating Type Silica Gel

Indicating silica gel is a silica gel bead or granule that has been
washed with a concentration of cobalt chloride (a heavy metal salt).
The cobalt chloride is a deep blue color when it is dry and turns
from blue to purple to pink as it becomes saturated with moisture.
Typically, the color changes as the desiccant goes past 8% moisture
levels (by weight) and indicates it is time to replace the desiccant.
The most typical use for an indicating silica gel is for a moisture sensitive product that will
be inspected regularly as it gives a quick visual indication of how well it is doing. Because
of the addition of cobalt chloride, indicating silica gel should not be used in contact with
products for consumption such as food or pharmaceuticals.
Non cobalt chloride silica gel is also available with us and it is
yellow in the beginning and changes to aqua-marine green as
it adsorbs moisture.
This gel does not have any harmful chemical which will cause
environmental hazards.
Blue silica gel has been banned in all western countries due to
Presence of cobalt.

Save Your Products from Moisture by Silica Gel

Most damage to stored valuables and supplies is caused by humidity trapped within the
enclosed storage area itself... be it a safe, gun or camera case, tool box, storage container,
silver drawer, whatever.
Humidity trapped within enclosed space turns into almost imperceptible condensation
which causes irreparable damage:
rust, corrosion, tarnish of tools, electronic and valuable equipment mildew, fungus, mold,
odor, spoilage spotting, toning, stains, gum damage, cracks to stamp collections and
valuable documents shortened "shelf-life" of photographic film, batteries, fogging of
lenses deterioration of foods, medicines, etc.
Silica gel beads are much more effective in moisture protection because:

The specific surface area of Silica Gel Beads is much higher

Than that of granules resulting in much better performance than
granules for any application

Silica Gel Beads have at least 3-4% more adsorption capacity

at any given temperature and humidity conditions as compared
to granules.

Presence of alumina in silica gel beads not only increases its surface area
But also enhances its attrition resistance and adsorption power.

Beads will not crack and reduce in size or convert to powder like granules

Types
Forms: Beads and Granules
Beads are more popular as they have higher adsorption capacity and offer much
better performance as compared to granules
Grades: Type A, B, C
These are manufactured on the basis of adsorption capacities, water resistance
and end use. More information can be sent as required.
Sizes: Beads: 2-5 mm / 3-6 mm / 5-8 mm
2-5 mm is most common
Granules: 3-6 mm / 6-12 mm

Uses of Grades Manufactured by Us

Drying of instrument air ( in air drying plants)

In transformer breathers to protect oil from moisture

In refrigeration

Used with all export articles , pharma bottles , house hold articles to protect them
from moisture

As perfume dispersant in cars, wardrobes, storage shelves, prayer rooms etc.

HPLC and TLC ( ask for specifications)

(Special grades can be manufactured as per requirement of the customer regarding the
end use and the specifications required)
