TWS #3 Design for Instruction
A. Objectives

1.By the end of 90

minutes Dance 3
students will be
able to
demonstrate their
understanding of
camera angles
through a hands
on experience with
iphones, a learned
combination, and
improvisation
2. By the end of
80 minutes Dance
3 students will be
able to initiate
movement from
specific body parts
through
improvisation and
created solos

3.By the end of 80

minutes Dance 3
students will be
able to
demonstrate their
understanding of
weight bearing
and supporting
weight through
learned and
created partner
sequences to put
in their videos.

B. Instructional
Strategies

C. Use of
Technology

D. Adaptations
for Learners
(Beginners)

Teach a basic combination

so they can focus on the
angles instead of the
intricacy of the
combination

Everyone needs an ipod

or at least one to share
with their group of three

Make sure everyone can

see the board, Give
enough time for students
to write what they need
to about each slide as
well as comment on the
video

Make sure everyone has a

partnership of three, help
them find partners if
necessary. Divide the
space so groups have
enough room to work

Notice what fits inside the

camera lens and what
does not

Show the film LXD: Shoes.

Engage the class in a
conversation about how
to initiate movement from
specific body parts

Watch a Dance and Film

Everyone should be able

to do the first of this
combination but if they
feel they can't do the
helicopter still they can
do the prep ones.

concentrate on helping
the students to
participate, give them
specific body parts to
work through

Ipod Music
Create a movement
phrase based on a certain
body part, some students
may ask if they can use
several try to guide them
to just use one and be
creative of how it ripples
through the body. And
how to maybe bear
weight with that body
part,
This class is social so I
may have to encourage
them to keep moving
around the room, I want
them to be comfortable
with each other but keep
warming up as we go
Let them have partners
they trust already for this
exercise, I am more
worried about the
concept of weight bearing
and finding how to give
weight than finding trust
with new people in the
room.

There will be different

levels of difficulty, walk
around and answer
questions and help them
explore other ideas than
just moving their wrist or
pointing their feet

Please answer the

questions, we will watch
the video and discuss
about the partner work in
the video, how they must
have achieved enough
trust and ability to
support each other
walk through the room,
stretching as we go,
acknowledging the people
around you.

I will demonstrate with a

partner so they can see
what I am asking them to
do. I have some visual
learners and some verbal

breathing, start to move

muscles in your back,
your partner should
follow, start giving weight
to one another

learners. Make sure

partners have similar
heights
push your heels into the
ground. Make sure your
partner is pushing with
the same amount of force
you are to help you both
stand up.

One partner pick one

body part the other
partner pick a different
one and keep them
connected as you go all
the way across the floor.
Work through the hard
parts, sometimes the
most interesting things
come from working
through the awkward
points between you

Make sure everyone in

the room has a partner,
show a demonstration of
what this exercise will
look like other wise
people will just pick hands
and stay standing the
whole time, Switch
partners as you go so
people get comfortable
with more people in the
room
Find a partner that is
similar to your height,
beginners may struggle
with the barrel roll over a
partner, have spotters
count out loud, make sure
you go slow enough the
first time so they can get
the pathway in their
bodies, sipe over your
partner, make sure your
pelvis is aligned with
theirs as you try to go
over their back, link only
one arm, the first partner
needs to plie and be at an
angle

4.By the end of 80

minutes Dance 3
students will be
able to smooth out
created solos,
duets, and create
a theme group 24
count phrase

Explain what the word

Ensemble means, make
sure everyone is facing
the projector and has
their binder out
Encourage my minimal
movers to join in quickly,
use proximity to help with
this
Give enough time so
students can solidify
movement

make rounds to help and

answer questions, help
them come up with
creative things that they
have never seen before
Give student feedback
and help on their projects
Encourage everyone to
have a voice in making
the group project so they
all have their ideas
validated.

5.By the end of 80

minutes Students
will be able to
solidify movement,
and perform their
entire
choreographed
piece for the class

to go out in the hall

because the classroom is
not big enough
Have enough assignment
sheets for everyone in the
class to view it
Encourage my minimal
movers to join in quickly,
use proximity to help with
this

Ipod Music
Getting ready to film with
Iphones. They may have
time to do a mock film to
see what their location
and the dance will look
like on their phone
screen.

Keep everyone on track,

they may feel like there is
a lot of time to mess
around but really they
have a lot they need to
accomplish today

6.By the end of 80

minutes Dance 3
students will be
able to perform
their group
choreographed
projects, group
one will be able to
show their finished
film project, and
group two will
demonstrate their
knowledge of
camera angles as
they provide their
assistance to their
classmates in the
film process.

Play their music and give

feedback
Explain who will be going
and who will be filming
who
Help students to their
locations and have them
think about their
surroundings and lighting

Evaluate the readiness of

each project to decide
who is filming on what
day
Decide based on
readiness of project who
will be performing and
filming next time
Everyone in the class is
capable of doing the
warm-up. I just need
them to dance full out so
their bodies will be warm
enough to do the
movement full out in their
films

Cue finish times 5

minutes left etc. To help
students realize how
much time they
conceptually have

Give enough time to go

over their material so
every member of the
groups feels ready to
perform.

You have 10-15 minutes

to go over your dance
with your group to solidify
anything that needs to be
smoothed out and then I
will send you to your site
specific place so you can
rehearse it there a few
times before someone
comes down to film it.
Beginners will feel
disoriented in a new
space. Go through it a few
times

make sure that people are

comfortable filming other
groups. Assign people
that are willing to be
patient and helpful to the
dancers performing

Give the list of who is

filming who and where
each group needs to be
so they all know what it
going on at every minute
of the day

A few of the groups were

not ready last time so
they need time to go over
their material. Some
students weren't here or
are not as fast at
creating/solidifying their
material. I want to give
them time to feel like
they are ready to film on
Thursday

Give help to groups that

are still working in the
classroom and tell them
where I will be with each
group and that I will be
back to check in on them

Make sure that everyone

is warm enough to stretch

Using Iphones to film

projects
Speakers at locations to
play the music

Stretch through each

body part. Performing is
hard on your bodies.
Other surfaces are hard
on our bodies too. Some
of us may have danced
on Cement or other

minutes Students
will be able to
watch their
finished products
and brainstorm
ideas for their
upcoming Spring
Concert.
