Written Assignments:
Students will be required to view one concert a term and write a critique based on a
handout given in class. Briefly noted here it will be a 2 page double spaced report
on specific aspects of each dance in the concert.
Journal assignments will be given every day in class. Students are expected to
respond to each question asked in one full paragraph.
Other smaller assignments related to core work will be given throughout the
semester.
Tests:
Students will have a performance test after each unit. They will be graded on skill
and elements learned in each specific unit
Students will take one written midterm and one written final. These tests will have
terms such as vocabulary and historical figures discussed in each unit.
Final:
Students will be assigned a topic to research. They will write a 3 page double
spaced paper on that topic. They will also create a 1 minute solo and present their
solo and 5 specific points from their paper to the class on the day of the final. The
final will be worth 20% of their final grade.
Late Work Policy:
If an assignment is late there will be a 20 % decrease per day late unless it is an
excused absence. If the absence is not excused they will not be allowed to turn it in.
If it is an excused absence the student can make it up by doing a worksheet with
this criteria:
a.
b.

d.
10 min warm-up
10 min conditioning
25 min class related work
Write what you have been learning in the class unit in a 150 word

For the 2nd offense students will be given a Verbal Notification or note that says why
they got a loss of Partial Points for the day. This is a second offense of inappropriate
comments name calling, talking, chewing gum, not having hair pulled back, or not
participating. Any of these actions will be a lose of 5 points for the day. If the
student is not dressed or comes in tardy they will automatically lose 5 points for the
day.
For 3rd offense the student will be given a write-up indicating that the student will
be required to come and talk to the teacher after class or after school. This is the
third offense of the above mentioned disruptions or 2 or more of them in one class
period, NO respect for students or teacher. The consequence is a loss of all behavior
and participation points for the day which is 10 points total out of the 20 allotted for
the day.
For the 4th offense an Authoritative Intervention will be issued. They will be sent to
the Principals office and a call will be made home. All 20 points will be lost for the
day. These infractions include: Truancies, bullying, and substance abuse.
Final Expectations:
Success in my classroom is a S.M.I.L.E:
Set new goals every week
Meet new people
Impossibilities do not exist in this classroom
Let your passions shine through
Everyone has something beautiful to contribute
Rules are important in for setting up a safe environment for students and teacher in
the classroom. It is an effort to bring respect for each other as we dance together.
Overall I am excited to teach this semester and always game for fun and laughter. I
hope that we will be able to achieve new goals and heighten our skills in dance.
I verify that I have read and understand the rules and expectations in this
document:
