Critical Illness
It can happen to you!
ARE YOU FINANCIALLY
PREPARED IN THE EVENT OF
A CRITICAL ILLNESS?
While healthy lifestyle choices can be
your best defense against some health risks,
a critical illness such as cancer, stroke or
heart disease can strike anyone at any
time. Should you be diagnosed with any of
the covered illnesses, you receive a tax
free lump sum amount, which you are free
to spend as you wish. This can help cover
lost income, to pay for private nursing or
out-of-country treatment, or even to pay
off your mortgage.
Would you be able to handle extra expenses
if you are diagnosed with a Critical Illness?

Great evening!
The Strathmore Lions Club held their 30th annual Ladies and Gentlemen Auction on April 2 at the Civic Centre. The evening is
one of the major fundraisers for the Lions club, which celebrated over 75 years of community involvement and dedication in the
Strathmore community.

#1 Hoops would have never been possible without my players dedication to the game and willing to
learn. I am also thankful to the parents who put their
trust in me to coach their kids to the best of their
abilities.
My coaches were so supportive and took time
to volunteer for the program, I cannot thank them
enough. I hope that all my players continue with the
game of basketball.
I look forward to in the future coaching all my #1
Hoops players again. It has been a fulfilling experience to run a non-profit basketball program in Strathmore and I hope I will be back to run it again. Thank
you to everyone who has supported me and stood by
me to make #1 Hoops a success.

Strathmore Handi-bus Association
Spring has sprung, and the tulips are blooming.
Its time to get out of the house, and get those errands done, and put off appointments tended to
before the April showers arrive.
The Handi-bus Association has been hard at
work, and would like to thank each and every
client for standing behind the board while we
worked through the new hours, and fee increases
together. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of
a new van, to help accommodate the increasing
trips to surrounding communities in Wheatland
County, as well as the Town of Strathmore.
These new vans and buses could not be possible without the continuous support received
from the citizens and businesses of the Wheatland
County, and afar.

The Strathmore Spartan girls
rugby team is splitting into two
squads with the addition of athletes from Drumheller and Holy

Head coach Jerry Flaws said he
didnt want to cut any players because of the increases interest.
Itll help us develop a lot more
because the Grade 10s that may
only play 10 minutes a game
on a normal year are going to
be able to play almost an entire
game on the other team for the
full season, said Flaws. Theyre
going to have a full season under
their belt instead of just a partial
season. It should definitely add
some motivation for the girls to
work hard and try to make that
top team.
Flaws mentioned that theyll
still be playing the same amount
of games as before, but will be
playing more exhibitions.
I would like to see both teams
highly competitive, said Flaws.
Our first squad should be fighting for a league title and should
be right near the top. And the
second squad I dont see why
they cant be up there in the Top
5 with the first squad. I would
like to see some high results going into zones.
He added that they always
hope to rely on the leadership
from the older kids because every year there is one-third of the
team that doesnt know the sport
and its back to the basic fundamentals.
The team will play a sevens
tournament, which is a seven

in Springbank and in Calgary,
while they will be hosting their

Strathmore Spartans head coach Travis Gorski got rewarded for his efforts with the football program.
JUSTIN SEWARD
Times Reporter
Strathmore Spartans football coach Travis Gorski was
rewarded for his commitment to the program by getting nominated for Football Albertas Novice Coach of
the Year.
The award is handed out to a coach within their first
two years who exemplifies dedication to making a program stronger and two other teams in their league nominated Gorski for his commitment to turning around the
high school program to making the team competitive in
all their games.
He said he relied on the knowledge he gained from his
coaches as a player at the University of Saskatchewan as
to what message should be sent to the players and what
should be left up to them on the field.
It came as a surprise to Gorski to get the award because he had no idea he was getting it until a high school
friend of his reached out to him on Facebook in March,
and said at the time he found out, he was more focused
on helping coach the junior varsity basketball program.

McCAULEY,

Christina Dorothy
1928 2016
Christina Chrisy Dorothy McCauley, passed away
peacefully on March 31, 2016 in Strathmore, Alberta. Chrisy will be sadly missed by her son, Daryal
(Carolyn) McCauley; daughter, Marjorie (Terry) Walroth; brother, Don Ferguson; sisters, Shirley (Edwin)
Kirschenman and Joan (Earl) Wombold; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by
her husband, Roy McCauley; parents, John and Pearl

the outdoors. She spent much of her time camping,

A celebration of her life will take place on Sunday,
April 10, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The
Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #10, 230 2 Avenue
