Embedded Systems task ( 2nd Years)

Deadline : 10.sept.2015
The following things need to be done:

Make a Mod-11 (i.e. it must be a 4 bit counter) counter using FLIP FLOPs
The counter is assumed to be driven by an independent clock source which is
updated at 1Hz
Generate a signal on every odd value output of the counter
This signal should allow a LED to be lit for a period of 20ms.For this purpose, a
microcontroller must be interfaced suitably with the counter. The LED is
interfaced with the microcontroller.
Once the counter value reaches 11,the counter needs to be reset
For resetting the counter, the same interfaced microcontroller must be used

Conditions:
8051 microcontroller needs to be used
The signal given to MCU to light LED must be in the form of an interrupt
Other than the counter and the microcontroller, you are free to use any logic
gates to implement the system
To do
Proteus Simulation of the suitable circuitry must be developed(use proteus
version 7 for simulation).

Find out the answer to this question

Apart from the usage of interrupt, what other method may be used to light light
the LEDs.Why is the Interrupt method more efficient?

Help stuff you need:

for counters refer to book digital design by morris mano or digital circuits by
anand kumar.
For mcu you can refer for microcontrollers by mazidi .
Do google search you will find a lot about these.

Note:

if you do not have the proteus software or if you any other problem , you can contact
undersigned.

Control System
Second Years:

Deadline : 10 Sept. 2015.

Study the basics about signals. You should have some knowledge about Causality, Stability, Linearity, Time
Invariance. Also study about Fourier and Laplace Transform. Their properties and applications.
Study about accelerometers , gyroscope and magnetometer and about PID algorithms.

Task:
Two DC motors with the same technical specifications would never run at the same speed. When these
motors are used to make a robot, it will never go in straight line.So to make it go in straight line you need to
write a code (in Arduino) which makes use of PID .You can use any other electronics components you want
to use.
You have to send us the code and its documentation.

Image Processing and Software Development

OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision) is a C++ library of programming functions mainly
aimed at real-time computer vision, originally developed by Intel research center.

For second years students

Deadline : 10th September 2015 (Thursday)

Task:
1. Go through the document regarding OpenCV tutorials.
2. Integrate OpenCV with any IDE in your system preferably, LINUX(Ubuntu). Windows will
also be fine.
3. Implement the attached research paper using OpenCV.(ImgProc Module)
4. Send an attached report specifying the steps undertaken to perform the task along with the
code and results of the execution.
Resources:
1. OpenCV Tutorial : https://goo.gl/u6YKvp
2. Steps to integrate OpenCV onto an IDE can be found simply by searching on Google. Any
error encountered during integration process can be solved by simply searching for the error on
the internet.
3. Reseach Paper : Real Time Visual Saliency By Division Of Gaussians :
https://goo.gl/VbC2SL
4. Do not get overwhelmed by the term Research paper. The ImgProc section of the OpenCV
tutorial documents contains all the relevant functions required to implement the paper. For
everything else, there is Google.

MECHANICAL AND FABRICATION DEPT.

Instructions
1. All the candidates will have to maintain a register in which they will have to record briefly, important points
relevant to tasks given below. They have to come to AUV LAB on date of their respective deadline for
evaluation (timings will be updated on DTU AUV facebook page). Failing to do so will result in elimination.
2. Second Year students have two chose from two departments, one is design and other is manufacturing and
have to do the task accordingly.

Second years

Deadline 9th sept (wed)

Design group
1. Study the water sealing technique in AUV using the concept of face seal and gland seal. Design and
understand various parameters involved in choosing the appropriate O-ring for both the cases.
2. Design coca cola bottle/cup/rocking chair or any other real object you encounter daily on solidworks/nx/creo.
Manufacturing group
Task : study of various machining processes namely, milling, lathe ,grinding and tools associated with it.
Suggest the appropriate method of fabrication of different parts of AUV eg. Lids, frame, camera pods etc with
reasoning.

For solidworks there are many tutorials on youtube to get started or for advanced designing.
There are no specific links for fabrication part. You can search on google to get information from
multiple sources. Youtube videos might be helpful to understand concepts better.

Acoustic Department
Tasks for second years

Deadline : 10 . Sept . 2015

1) Study about Digital Signal Processing and its application , waves and its propagation.
Make reports and send it to us.
(note-explain briefly why do we need different type of transforms and its application
in signal processing.

2)

a) Explain briefly the whole procedure for localization of sound source under water in
using TDOA(time difference of arrival).
b) Try to develop a NEW algorithm to localize sound source using 4 hydrophones in
3D. If possible write its code in MATLAB and cross check your algorithm.
c) While using TDOA method to localize source, check whether there is any restriction in
positioning of hydrophones, give reasons for it.

3)

There is a pinger (sound source) of radius R emitting a broadband signal with frequency range
of F1<F<F2 .There are two hydrophones S1 and S2 situated at a distance of R1 from the
source where (R1>>R).Inter hydrophone distance is D.Take speed of sound to be c.
The angle between the wavefront plane and the perpendicular to the line joining is .
If the wavefronts hits hydrophones at time t1 and t2.
a) Derive expression for TDOA
b) If the phase difference caused due to TDOA is restricted by . Find the range of D
And its maximum value.
