SAYING I DO TO JESUS CHRIST (Luke 2:41-52)

(Accepting Christ with a Heart and Spirit of a Child)

In the Bible, we have read how Jesus has been rejected
and how some have accepted Him. In our Scriptural
readings and related Biblical references this morning / we
will get an even clearer picture of Jesus rejection and
acceptance, even from his birth.
In Matthew 2: 1-18, we can read about King Herod
who was greatly disturbed when he heard of the Wise Men
looking for a baby / born to be the king of the Jews.
He felt threatened that this baby will replace him soon.
So he devised ways to trick the Wise Men into showing
him
the exact location of the threat to his throne.
And when his devise failed, he became furious
and gave orders for a mass murder of all the boys two
years old and under in all Bethlehem and its vicinity.
In our times, there are people who continue to reject
Jesus,
because to them Jesus will just be a distraction, a
disturbance to their worldly pursuits.
Even today, there are people who are afraid that if they
accept Jesus, the positions, privileges and power they hold
dear in their lives will have to be relinquished. So they not
only reject Jesus, they even relegated his existence to the
point of obliteration by replacing the angel who
announces the good tidings to the shepherds with santa
clause who just say hohoho, by substituting the
reindeer for the sheep at the stable, by substituting the
chimney for the manger, by replacing the wise mens gifts
of gold, frankincense and myrrh with gifts inside socks
and stockings.
The chief priests and teachers of the law
during the time of King Herod the Great
were rather apathetic to Gods becoming flesh in Jesus.

They express no excitement or sense of great anticipation

as to the fulfillment of Gods promise,
the fulfillment of the Word of God to be with His people.
This chief priests and teachers preferred king Herod from
whom they get their daily bread and rejected the Kings of
kings and Lord of lords from whom they could receive the
Eternal Bread of Life.
Today we also have learned men and women who knew the
Holy Scriptures and could even quote from any part of it.
But the Holy Scripture has just become an ordinary work
of literature to them, For them, there is no life in the
Words of the Bible.
They become so used to hearing about Jesus, that his
name does not ring a bell anymore on their hearts.
Now, as there were those who rejected Jesus Christ,
there were also those who accepted Jesus Christ.
Zechariah, the husband of Elizabeth and the father of John
the Baptizer, initially expressed rejection of the angels
message of him having a son who will be the forerunner of
Jesus Christ,
but eventually accepted Jesus and even prophesied for the
coming of his kingdom.
Joseph, likewise initially rejected the news about the birth
of Jesus thru Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, but
eventually accepted Jesus when he obeyed Gods will by
agreeing to marry Mary.
There were many persons in the Bible who initially
rejected Jesus, either by their words or by their actions,
but eventually accepted Him.
But what I want you to meditate on yours hearts is this.
When people, in the Bible, accepted / say I Do to Jesus
Christ,
their lives did not only become different
but their lives even made a difference in the lives of
others.

John the Baptizer, even while he was still in her mothers

womb, already accepted Jesus Christ. And he became the
forerunner of Jesus, as he caused many to turn away from
their sins and turn to Jesus for their salvation.
Mary became the Blessed amongst women when she
accepted Jesus Christ by allowing herself to be the vessel
of God Spirit.
The ordinary and lowly shepherds became the very first
Gospel heralds when they accepted the Good News of the
Lord Jesus Christ as announced by the angel.
The wise men became the very first missionaries when
they accepted Jesus Christ by journeying to worship him.
By accepting Jesus Christ, according to our text in Luke
2:41-52, means:
1. KNOWING JESUS TEACHINGS (v. 47)
(v47All who heard him were amazed at his intelligent answers.)

Young persons you should seek the knowledge of

Divine truth, attend to the ministry of the gospel, and
ask such questions as may tend to increase your
knowledge of the teachings of Jesus. Even older
people, of riches, influence, and education you should
not allow your social status to hinder you from
gaining fresh revelations and inspirations from the
teachings of Jesus.
By accepting Jesus Christ, according our text in Luke 2:4152, means
2. DOING THE WORK OF THE FATHER (v. 49)
Jesus said to his mother, I had to be in my Father's
house;
at my Father's work; I must be about my Father's
business.
Like Jesus, we must attend to our heavenly Father's
business, and make all other concerns give way to it.
A. W. Tozer said it once and I quote it is the truest

greatness of soul to know our own place and office; to

deny ourselves amusements and pleasures not
consistent with our state and calling. (unquote) As
children of God, it is our task to be doing our Fathers
work.
By accepting Jesus Christ, according our text in Luke 2:4152, means
3. GROWING IN BODY, IN WISDOM AND IN FAVOR
WITH GOD AND PEOPLE. (v. 52)
When one is in Christ Jesus, growth is a must. Just like
husband and wife who are expected to grow in their
marital relation, those who profess to have accepted
Christ Jesus must be seen to have grown or must
show not only physical and biological growth but even
intellectual and spiritual growth.
Accept Christ, therefore, means saying I Do to Jesus
Christ.
It is to form a relationship to the person of Jesus Christ.
It means affirming his Lordship in aspects of our lives,
That God has made Him Lord over all things and Head of
the Church and that He has the keys of death and hell
and that God has given all power into His hand and that
He will sit upon the throne judging all mankind.
It's to form a relationship to Him that is life reversing and
transforming.
If your Christian conversion did not reverse the direction
of your life;
if it did not transform or change your life
from being self ruled, self directed, selfish, self righteous
then you have not say I Do to him at all,
you are simply a victim of the 'accept Jesus' heresy!
To accept Christ means to accept Him in every part of your
being and that you are to form a relationship to Him, an
emotional, an intellectual, a volitional relationship which
is complete, leaving no part of your life unaffected.

To you who is among us this morning, the road may have seemed steep,
and you feel alone. Someone you trust has disappointed you.
God sees your tears...He feels your pain. He longs to comfort you,
just accept his invitation to help you.
You who feels God won't forgive your sins for they are too great. You who feels
you have strayed too far from His love, listen to this. God loves you so much that
He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in your place.
He will forgive you for every sin you have committed,
if you are willing to leave your sinsand and accept his saving grace.

Remember this, No matter how far into the pit you have fallen,
God's grace is greater still.
He'll reach down His hand to hold yours.
The Scripture says,
"...I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

~ Mark 2:17b

Whoever amongst us here you thought

"You have made a mess out of your life, but you want to be forgiven."
You regret the mistakes of your past, and you want to be forgiven.
God wants you to accept Jesus with the spirit and heart of a child.
Sure, you made wrong choices, but He still loves you!
Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
Go to him like a child crying and asking forgiveness from his father.
One day you will stand before the Lord, transparent in His presence.
The books of your life will be open to be judged.
Every thought... every word... every motive of your heart
will be revealed in His illuminating light.
What shall you say in His presence?
Don't go out of this church without confessing with your mouth
the Lord of Jesus in your life, and believing in your heart that God has raised him
from the dead, to seal your forgiveness of your sin and your place in eternal
presence of God (Rom. 10:9)
Today, if you would like to receive the gift of eternal life,
first you must believe in the Lord.

You have to ask for your sins to be forgiven and put your trust in the Lord.
There's only one way to heaven and that's through the Lord Jesus.
That's God's wonderful plan of salvation.
"Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved"
You can say this prayer with me:

~ Acts 2:21b

"Oh God, I'm a sinner. I've been a sinner all of my life.

But today I say I Do to Jesus. I receive Jesus as my Savior.
I trust Him as my Lord. Thank you God for sending him for me. Amen."
