knowledge on the general concept of computer system diagnosis and maintenance.


Students are exposed to computer system hardware, laptop system, computer
peripherals and security. The course focuses on the methods of operation,
installation, diagnostic, troubleshooting, and maintenance in computer hardware.

Fundamental component of laptop and portable devices such
as memory, hard drive, ports, expansion slot, communication

PRINCIPLES

Fundamental principles of printer and scanner. Installation,


configuration, optimization and use troubleshooting
techniques for printer and scanner.

Fundamental principles of security system; hardware
deconstruction, smart card, authentication technologies,
malicious software protection, software firewall, and file
system security. Wireless security; wireless encryption and

Define fundamental principles of using PC


1.1.1 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of storage
devices.
1.1.2 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of
motherboards.(Form factor, components)
1.1.3 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of power
supplies, for example: AC adapter, ATX, proprietary, voltage).
1.1.4 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of
processor/CPUs.
1.1.5 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of memory.
1.1.6 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of display
device.
1.1.7 Determine the difference between a TFT and CRT monitors.
1.1.8 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of input device.
1.1.9 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of adapter
cards.
1.1.10 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of ports and
cable.
1.1.11 Define the names, purpose and characteristics of cooling
system.

used by printers and scanners including port and cable types

ASSESSMENT

The course assessment is carried out in two sections:


i.

Coursework (CA)
Coursework is continuous assessment that measures knowledge,
technical skills and soft skills.

ii.

Final Examination (FE)


Final examination is carried out at the end of the semester.

The percentage ratio of FE to CA shall follow the guideline stated in the ArahanArahan Peperiksaan dan Kaedah Penilaian which is approved by the Lembaga
Peperiksaan dan Penganugerahan Sijil/ Diploma Politeknik.
