Where is the Love…
...an opportunity to choose
In the past month the po-
litical and racial tensions
in South Africa have esca-
lated to the extend that
some analysts started
predicting that South Af-
rica, the homeland which I
so dearly love, would soon
be in a civil war or even
worse: genocide. This was
mainly as a result of the
brutal murder of the leader
of the extremist right-wing
party, the AWB, following
shortly on the heels of
hate speech from the
reigning party, the ANC.
Shortly after the death of
Eugene Terre Blanche, I
logged on to the teenage
social networks and no-
ticed that the youth were
choosing sides to an ex-
tremist extend. Racially
charged comments were
splashed as status up-
dates from a generation
who were unaware of the
past and even the present
„situation‟ in South Africa. I
then realized that all they
are inherently longing for,
is to stand for and to sup-
port something greater
than their selfish desires.
THEY WANT TO MAKE A
DIFFERENCE!
Unfortunately the guardi-
ans of these teenagers
are adding more fuel to
the racial fire. But what if
the options aren‟t black or
white, right or left. What if
there is another way.
There is...
